The Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council (SWWDC) is partnering with the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network (OEN) to bring a vital connection with the world of entrepreneurship to Southwest WA. We are leveraging the network and expertise of OEN to support innovation and growth.

OEN entrepreneurs tell good stories. They have to if they want their business to succeed. They also need access to information, contacts and capital. The OEN PubTalk™ is a great starting place for entrepreneurs to find just that.

OEN's PubTalk™, held the second Wednesday of every month (except July and December), is a unique mix of educational panel discussions delivered by successful entrepreneurs, investors or business experts combined with opportunities for entrepreneurs to gain expertise in delivering investment pitches. Entrepreneurs can present as a featured company at a monthly PubTalk or they can compete in OEN's Seed Oregon PubTalk™ competition.

During the monthly PubTalk's™, OEN selects two emerging entrepreneurs to present their five-minute pitch on who they are, and what they do in front of a live audience of experienced entrepreneurs. Presenting Northwest business entrepreneurs receive feedback on their products, services, business model, marketing strategy, or other integral component of their business. The objective is to leverage the strength and experience of the community, providing an invaluable learning opportunity for young entrepreneurs.

At the basis of the transition from something that is a cool idea to an actual business, lies the question: what is the market for my intended product or service?

The answer to that question is many-faceted. What is the exact problem that you're addressing? Is the time right for your idea? Is the state of technology ready for your envisioned solution? Who are your intended customers and what do they look like? How many of them are there in your intended market area? How many are currently in the market for what you have to sell? And between you and your competition, how many will want to buy your solution instead of someone else's?

All of this is not an exact science - but the more realistic your estimates, the better your chances of gauging your chance of success, and the more credible you will be to a potential investor.

How it works: First 50 to arrive get in free with an elevator pitch to the bouncer. Those who want to pitch PSF simply drop their names in a hat. 12 names will be drawn for 5-min power sessions with PSF managers Jim Huston, Angela Jackson and Jenn Lynch. Ringler booths will be filled with other PSF alumni and mentors, so you will garner additional feedback from great sources even if your name didn't get drawn. Everyone gets a beer ticket (and pizza).

Pitch Club PDX is an ongoing monthly series dedicated to helping entrepreneurs perfect their pitch and business plan by providing real time mentoring and support from TiE Charter Members, Entrepreneurs, Partners and Guests.

Tom Kingsley, TiE Charter Member and Mentor, moderates the evening by creating a dynamic and realistic environment. Hack the Dot is a hackathon where code school students, working developers, marketing and design professionals, and anyone else interested in the Web come together to build ideas. At a domain-driven hackathon, all of the teams are given a single premium domain name at the beginning of the event. TiE Oregon is hosting its first TiE Women Pitch Competition on September 2nd. This will be a virtual event and the same as our regular Pitch Competitions, with one twist: all the participating companies must have a woman in their Founding team.

The winner will get the opportunity to attend the TiE Global Mega Pitch Competition in Dubai in December where they will compete for a $100k prize against women-led startups from all over the world. Three Runners-up will also be selected for an accelerator workshop.

Our Committee will review the applications and select six finalists (and two back-ups) to present on stage. We pair each of the finalists with a team of TiE Charter Members for coaching and mentoring in the run-up to the Pitch Competition. Westside Pitch is a startup competition for Washington County entrepreneurs seeking to showcase their early-stage businesses. Competitors will have the chance to pitch their business venture to a panel of local investors. In preparation for the event, participating businesses will receive personalized coaching by Laura Kubisiak.

Eligible competitors include all entrepreneurs that either operate their business or live in Washington County. Selected businesses will have developed a unique product or service solution that solves a big problem in a national or international market.

Not ready to compete but wish to attend anyway? Spectators are welcome!

Plans are in the works to offer a cash prize, as well as in-kind services provided by local businesses, such as accountants and attorneys. Additionally, the event will offer a great opportunity to increase the visibility of your business venture to both investors and the general public.

Demolicious is back! This monthly pitch event brings together founders and the community to learn about what is being built here and around Portland.

How this all works: If you are a founder, you will apply to pitch here. Don't worry. "Apply" simply means you want to pitch, but there's no real competitive process to be accepted. We just want to see what you're working on before we put you in front of a room full of people.

You will be given 3 minutes to pitch at the event.

The audience will be given a number to text and vote for their favorite one. The one with the most votes will go home with the Demolicious Championship belt.

The belt is not for you to keep as you will have to come back and "defend" it. However, you will be allowed to put your startup sticker (if applicable) on the belt for all to see and to live on forever in infamy!
