    Pitch Club
    free

    CENTRL Office

Pitch Club is an event where entrepreneurs learn the criteria and methods used by real investors to evaluate their venture as a potential investment. This is done by recreating a typical investor meeting where a few companies pitch and receive feedback from TiE Oregon Charter Members. These meetings follow the same basic agenda of an investor meeting with three sections: the pitch, Q&A, and investor discussion & decision.

    Who facilitates Pitch Club?

Pitch Club is organized by Kari Naone, TiE Oregon Executive Director and led by Tom Kingsley, a TiE Charter Member who is an investor and successful entrepreneur.

    What to expect?

Please minimally prepare for a 5-minute pitch. If time permits each person could get up to 10 minutes so be prepared for that as well. This can include a slides/ppt that will be presented from your computer. Directly after pitching, Q&A and discussion will take place.

Those who attend pitch club will walk away with a better understanding of what investors look for in a pitch and how to answer the questions possible investor will ask. In addition, each presenter will receive a digital copy of their pitch and feedback from their peers and TiE Charter Members.

Interested in sponsoring Pitch Club - please contact [email protected].

Refactoring for Asynchronous Execution on Mobile Devices

    CENTRL Office

To improve responsiveness, developers often use asynchronous programming architecture. In the post-PC era, asynchronous programming is even more in demand because mobile and wearable devices have limited resources and access the network excessively. One current development task is refactoring long-running, blocking synchronous code (for example, accessing the Web, a cloud, a database, or a file system) into nonblocking asynchronous code. Danny will guide us through the challenges of retrofitting code from synchronous to asynchronous while presenting program analyses as well as showcasing a growing, practical tool set for this process.

Artist Chris Kelleher will be displaying his beautiful artwork and you will also have the option of participating in a Pop & Paint, LLC. Art Class! We will be painting the iconic Portland, Oregon sign while we sip some brews from Base Camp!

More about Chris Kelleher: Creating mostly through improvisation, I set out to build a relationship between marks focusing on movement, form and light. Though predominately abstract, the landscape of the Pacific Northwest has had a profound influence on my work. Whether I am painting at a live music performance or I am in my studio, music is an important part of the process. I allow music to directly translate into my work by accessing its poetry, melody, and above all else, rhythm. I try to allow each piece to flow from the brush with the same dynamic tendencies as water itself. I consider my work to be both spiritual and playful.

    First Thursday at CENTRL Office

    CENTRL Office

Join us for First Thursday at CENTRL Office! Back Pedal Brewing Co will be serving beer and we will have small bites from World Foods! Artist Reid Trevarthan will be displaying his collage artwork. About Reid’s artwork: “In making my collages, I try to mimic the process of going through life. I build up images using small individual pieces that both have meaning on their own, but also gain meaning through interacting with other pieces. I try to echo life’s unpredictability by introducing elements whose effects on the artwork are only clear after they’ve been glued down. Sometimes the effect is positive, sometimes less so. But trying to imagine how the piece could have been different is almost as futile as wondering how one’s life could be different. It would not be less of a piece, just a different one.”

Schmizza Pub & Grub in the Pearl will also be joining us with pizza samples and New Seasons Market will be sampling their desserts!

7CTOs - Get Your Estimates Right - Why Your Customers And Your Team Will Love You

    CENTRL Office

There are always scenarios where when given a hard deadline, we must respond with what work can be accomplished by that date. How do we know when to work with what we have been charged to do or push back? What options do we have?

How do we know when to Commit, Estimate or Explore in differing technical or business scenarios? When choosing estimation or exploration as an option, how do you communicate your reasons and negotiate with your customer or stakeholder when he or she would prefer a commitment?

We will meet in a conference room at CENTRL and spend 2 hours together discussing this topic and getting to know more about each other's business challenges. We will also run through a few exercises designed to challenge our thinking and ultimately make us better leaders.

    Agenda

We are meeting at CENTRL 1355 NW Everett St on April 25, 2016

    6pm: Food and Drinks

6:30pm: Get started on Forum discussions topic: Estimates

    7:30pm: Exercise

    8pm: Done!

    What is 7CTOs?

7CTOs is a Chief Technologist Community of Practice where we share business challenges, grow together and collectively solve hard problems for the greater good. We meet in forums of 7 members on a monthly basis in cities across the USA. Check out 7ctos.com/story

    Portland Startup Week: FailPDX

    CENTRL Office

    FailPDX back in action!

Please RSVP at http://goo.gl/wocFa4 so we have an accurate head count.

FailPDX will be kicking off the new year with a 4 person panel discussing the trials and tribulations of building a successful business. Each panel member will share their personal failures, what they learned from the experience, and answer any questions we may have. This FailPDX event is officially part of Portland Startup Week. Startup Week is a free, five-day celebration of our community that builds momentum and opportunity around entrepreneurship. The week is led by local entrepreneurs and hosted in amazing spaces all over town.

For those who may not be familiar with our group: FailPDX was created out of direct response to a lot of the meetups and conferences that seemed to be focused on all of the good things about being part of startup and taking chances. The truth is, success is a unicorn. FailPDX was created to remind people that failure is inevitable. This group is a place where everyone can come together to listen and share their failure stories.

If you are interested in speaking at or sponsoring one of our events, please email [email protected].

    Schedule:

    5:00 PM: Refreshments & Networking
5:30 PM: Presentation followed by Q/A
    6:30 PM: Wrap things up

Please note the above schedule is subject to change and will include our panelist closer to event time.

    Look forward to seeing everyone!
