ACT-W (Advancing the Careers of Tech Women) PDX Evenings are events hosted on the 1st Wednesday of the month intended to bring women and allies in technology together for a night of local inspiration!

Every ACT-W PDX Evening will feature a local leader in the women in tech community and offers the opportunity for you to authentically connect with others in the Portland tech community. This event is hosted in the lobby of CENTRL Office Eastside from 5:30-7:30pm, with the talk beginning at 6:15pm and networking before and after. Drinks and appetizers will be served.

The workshop, Failing Fast for Women, explores the relationship between gender socialization, avoidance of risk taking, and the internalization of failure. It provides a number of skills and strategies to increase risk taking and avoid personalizing failure, and is suitable for all female-identified folks.

The event is on November 16th from 9 to 5 at the Nightwood Society. It’s created and hosted by the Alveare Collective, a community of professional women in Portland who are working to rethink risk-taking in the workplace and personal realms.. After leaving Intel in 2006, I spent 10 years at ADP Dealer Services (now known as CDK Global) where we built software for Automotive Retailers & OEMs. Last October – just about 1 year ago – I had the amazing good fortune to join NAVEX Global, who provides the world’s most comprehensive Ethics & Compliance SaaS platform – and has the inspiring mission of helping organizations protect their people, reputation, and bottom line. Our mission really speaks to me because, as a Boy Scout Leader for 25 years, I care a lot about integrity and being a servant leader. Prior to joining OVP in 1992, Gerry was co-founder of Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) in Portland, OR in 1981. There he served as President, and over eleven years helped lead Mentor through its IPO to over $400M in worldwide sales and over $1B in market capitalization. He began his technology career at Tektronix. Langeler received the Lifetime Achievement award from the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network in 2011.

EVENT COST

The event cost is $15 for participants and includes lunch. Fee is collected via Meetup. If you are a student, under-employed, or in need of financial assistance, we have full scholarships available for this event. Please submit an application here (https://forms.gle/yQXpAR32xsN62FDf7).

There will be no refunds for this event. If you cannot attend, you can email us to transfer the ticket to another attendee, or we can add it to our scholarship pool.

PREREQUISITES

A solid foundation of hands-on technical experience. There will be no coding, but the assumption is that we will have a pretty solid foundation of hands on technical experience.
