    Come out to the CENTRL Office on the Eastside for Ruby Tuesday. We'll have pizza starting at 6pm, so stop by early if you want to have dinner and socialize before the presentations. We are at a new venue this month because of construction at New Relic. Drinks are BYOB this month

    PRESENTATIONS 7pm-9pm

    • Intro to Scorpio - Scorpio is a ruby library that represents RESTful resources, built around OpenAPI. ~ Presentation by Ethan

    • RailsConf Rewind - If anyone went to RailsConf 2019, please share what you learned or point out new resources for the group.

    After presentations we'll have more socializing time.

    MaptimePDX // the Bike Edition!

    Maptime is back! And it’s all about bikes 🚴‍♂️💨. We’re connecting the bike community with mappers, developers, and designers. For the first part of our meeting, we'll have guest speakers:

    Matthew Hamtpon (Metro) will talk about the history of the Bike There! map and what's happening at Metro related to bikes and infrastructure.

    Momoko Saunder (Biketown) will present on some of the tools they use for visualizing data on maps and how they use them to improve operations.

    Rafa Gutierrez (Mapbox) will showcase recent cycling applications built with Mapbox tools.

    As usual, there will be time to hack on projects in the second half and share whatever challenges you're working on. Maptime is a time for learning and asking questions. We welcome newcomers and anyone wanting to teach or learn. Have an app or cool idea to share? Get in touch or just join us Tuesday Jan 29, 6-7:30p at CNTRL East 329 NE Couch St, Portland.     ACT-W (Advancing the Careers of Tech Women) PDX Evenings are events hosted on the 1st Wednesday of the month intended to bring women and allies in technology together for a night of local inspiration!

    Every ACT-W PDX Evening will feature a local leader in the women in tech community and offers the opportunity for you to authentically connect with others in the Portland tech community. This event is hosted in the lobby of CENTRL Office Eastside from 5:30-7:30pm, with the talk beginning at 6:15pm and networking before and after. Drinks and appetizers will be served.

    Our October ACT-W PDX Evening will feature Maigen Thomas, Chief Motivational Officer of Empowered Women in Tech and UX Designer for Compli, who will share her personal story of pivoting from being a Flight Attendant to Full Stack Developer to UX Designer. Her talk will focus on actionable ways you can get and stay radically motivated to reach your long term goals.

In this practical workshop, you’ll use a dataset that contains hotel reviews to build a prediction model to guess where you might want to go on your next vacation. You’ll get an introduction to a Data Scientist’s tools and methods, including an overview of basic machine learning concepts.

    No previous knowledge of data science is required. Some programming background is helpful but not required. This is a designed to be an introductory (and fun) workshop for beginners. If you have a laptop, make sure to bring it. Otherwise, we can pair you up with someone who has one.
