TiE Oregon Workshop: Howard Mann - Resetting Your Business Foundation – Ater Wynne Jumpstart your business! Here's what Tom Peters, author of In Search of Excellence and The Little BIG Things has to say about Howard's book: "To call Your Business Brickyard a 'bible' would not be an exaggeration. Doesn't belong on your Kindle or bookshelf - belongs in your pocket for permanent and immediate reference." You not only get to meet the author of this book, but attend his workshop, learn about his ideas first-hand and get a free pdf version of the book. Howard Mann, author of "Your Business Brickyard" has collected twelve essentials to any business foundation based on his experiences as an entrepreneur. Mann shows you how to get back to basics, reconnect with your purpose, and grow your business, instead of getting stuck following the latest trend or "Me too" fad. You will learn how to unlock your company's true potential instead of playing catch-up with your competitors. When you're at an entrepreneurial roadblock, this is the book you need to reboot your thinking and get you back on the right road," says Andy Sernovitz, Author, Word of Mouth Marketing: How Smart Companies Get People Talking. TiE-Oregon Inspiration 3: Featuring Eric Winquist, CEO Jama Software, James Davies, COO Timbercon – Stoel Rives LLP Agenda: 6.00pm to 6.50pm Reception sponsored by Stoel Rives 7.00pm to 7.20pm Presentations by Speakers 7.20pm to 8.00pm Guided Discussion by Bill Kelly 8.00pm to 8.30pm Audience Q&A Bootstrapping on Steroids: In an interview with USAToday columnist, Steve Strauss, at Pagatim.com, Eric Winquist says that what's most rewarding for him as an entrepreneur is when a customer is successful and he knows that his company has played a role in the process. As a product manager, he was frustrated with some of the enterprise solutions he saw and used his savings to build a beta version of the product. What's unique about him is he turned down outside investment. Meet Eric and find out how he has bootstrapped his way to success. Two Steps Ahead: The mantra that James Davies has for his company is "Change is Good." Finding solutions through innovative ways is what drives him. In his interview with Steve Strauss, James says that what kept them going when they started Timbercon 15 years ago was niche knowledge in the data storage game. By staying two steps ahead each time in the fiber optics world, they were able to find solutions for customers. The most gratifying aspect of being an entrepreneur for James is " the freedom to try things, to explore and learn from mistakes." Moderator: Bill Kelly Inspiration - The bedrock of innovation Successful entrepreneurship requires several elements - inspiration, innovation and if you are focused on the outcome - sound business strategy. The inspiration series focuses on the driving force behind success. How do you find that spark that drives creativity? . From idea to development, from boot-strapping to growth stage, what guides entrepreneurs as the make critical decisions? Enterpreneurs discuss lessons learned and offer tips for other entrepreneurs. Attend this event to be inspired to deal with the challenges of running your own company. Speakers: Eric Winquist, Co-Founder and CEO Jama Software James Davies, Co-Founder and COO Timbercon Eric founded Jama Software with the vision of providing customers a more collaborative way to develop new products and eliminate the common frustrations with traditional approaches to requirements management. Eric is an accomplished entrepreneur and project manager with over 15 years experience working with a wide range of enterprise organizations, teams and technologies. In 2001, Eric founded Redside Solutions, a software development consulting firm. As CEO, Eric grew Redside to a multi-million dollar business with 100% annual growth rates. At Redside, Eric saw first-hand the need companies had for collaborative requirements management which led to the creation of Jama Software and the development of Jama Contour. Jama: Founded by a team of experienced software professionals frustrated with traditional enterprise tools, Jama has created a powerful Web-based application called Contour that's used by thousands every day to manage billions of dollars in research and development projects. The path from great ideas to great products goes through requirements management, and Jama is dedicated to helping its customers successfully navigate that path. James Davies: Mr. Davies co-founded Timbercon, Inc. in 1997 and has served as an executive since its inception. Concurrently, Mr. Davies co-founded Greenspace Candles, with whom he continues to serve as an advisor. TiE Oregon Pitch Club featuring Ana Andueza – Connective DX Community Room TiE Members: FREE / Public: $25 When you are pitching to investors, they will want to know whether they can trust you with their money: inevitably you're going to get to the question of what the financial projections for your business are. When are you going to make money and how much? One thing that will be 100% certain about your numbers: they will be wrong. However, what is actually more important, is how you arrived at those numbers. Investors will be more interested in hearing what assumptions you made about the number of customers you are expecting to get, how much it costs to sell to them, what the costs are of producing your product or services, how much staff you will need, etc. etc. You have to demonstrate that you know your market, your abilities and the things you will need to make your vision a profitable reality. For some entrepreneurs, this is a really daunting topic. However, you must be able to understand your business and the numbers behind it, before you can convince anyone else to come along for the ride. Join us for TiE Oregon Pitch Club where our July speaker, Ana Andueza, will shed light on how to construct your financial model. As a CFO as well as an angel investor, Ana has broad experience in dealing with startups and finances. Currently the CFO at CFO with Criterion Brock, she is a TiE member, angel investor, and vice chair of the OEN's Angel Oregon. Previously she was the chief financial officer for Irwin Commercial Finance and U.S. Bancorp Equipment Finance. Earlier in her career, Andueza held senior accounting positions with U.S. Bank and Deloitte and Touche. Join us for this talk, networking and refreshments as well as pitch practice and actionable feedback! |

Confessions of an Entrepreneur "Wild Friends: The Story of Two Accidental Entrepreneurs" – DeskHub And so the story goes… …at the University of Oregon, Keeley and Erika were in their college apartment, scraping the bottom of yet another empty jar of peanut butter. As hungry college students and athletes, they ate a lot of peanut butter, and on this occasion, neither of them felt like biking to the store in the rain to buy more. So, they decided to try making their own! That day, Wild Friends was born. More than four years have passed since the day they made that first jar. They’ve left their college apartment behind and are now based in Portland, Oregon. They’ve launched dozens of new flavors of nut butter and sell in thousands of stores across the country. However, despite all these changes, a few things have stayed the same — most importantly, their passion for awesome tasting products, made with the healthiest whole ingredients they can find. |
