Vision Planning for the Community-Minded
Collective Agency Downtown

Vision planning for people who want to do something for a community.

Do you not yet have a vision statement written out, or would you like to tweak or revise? And do you say things like, "I'm hoping someone will want to contribute to my project: it is for the public good"? Then this workshop is for you.

Saturday, September 20th, 10am-12pm. Alex Linsker, Catherine Poole, and Russ Finkelstein will be the main facilitators and coaches of the workshop.

The main questions about your vision: Where are you coming from? What phrasing describes the reason why you’re doing this?

If related questions come up organically, we’ll explore. These questions are where groups like “Collective Agency” started.

Whether a website, open source project, discussion group, nonprofit startup, or something else, the main focus of the people who show up will be for the benefit of a group or groups of people (the "community"). We’ll have fun and develop a vision planning community of our own.

In 2 hours we will meet-and-greet (go around and say what we’re working on and what we’d like to happen with it), have a brief overview, then invest most of the time in one-on-one coaching in 15 minute sessions.

Coaches will each bring a vision plan for something they’ve done.

This event is free of charge. Coaching/mentoring/skill-sharing will be available here in the future with both free and paid options.

Please RSVP. Plancast is best, so people can see you're coming. Email [email protected] or tweet @alexlinsker with any questions.

Portland Riak "Luc Perkins & The Personal Cloud"
NedSpace on 5th

Is the siloed internet over? It's too early to tell, but personal cloud is showing tremendous promise as a counter-paradigm that holds the promise of both providing most or all of the services that we currently enjoy and doing so in a way that is vastly more consistent with more stringent understanding of privacy and consent. While there are numerous countries making slow progress on the personal cloud front, none, as far as I know, are considering Riak as a data store for personal clouds. In this talk, I'd like to make the case for Riak as being an ideal technology for this.

Collective Agency Third Saturdays 9am to 5pm
Collective Agency Downtown

Collective Agency staff are trying an experiment: additional to everything else we have, we’ll be staffed on the Third Saturday of the month, 9am-5pm (this coming Saturday January 18th, and next month February 15th).

The reason why is for Collective Agency to be open for tours (and work here for a day) for people who wouldn’t be available during the week and would like to try membership.

Workfrom Wednesday comes back to the East Side to try something new!!

This week we'll be going to a Portland, OR and Workfrom staple and favorite Water Ave Coffee. They have sandwich, bagels, salad, oatmeal, and yogurt as well as some of the best coffee in the city. We try to support each location that supports us by buying something. So come hungry, in need of a coffee, and ready to get some work done with awesome people.

A lot of people wanted to go get drinks after Workfrom Wednesday, so that is exactly what we will be doing. Around 4:00, we will move from Water Ave Coffee to Bunk Bar right next door for drinks and food. For anyone who has not been, bunk has some of the best sandwiches in the city. To note, Bunk has happy hour from 3:00-6:00 giving $1 off all well drinks and beers.

You can find out more about Water Ave Coffee and why it's awesome on their Workfrom page.

Workfrom Friday
TILT Pearl District

Thanks to everyone who came out to Case Study yesterday. That was a lot of fun!

Several cohorts want to have a Workfrom Friday tomorrow, so we're making it happen! If you're up for some Friday coworking, we'll meet at Tilt on NW 13th and Everett.

Colby and Nathan will be there at 10:30 with smiling faces. If you're not sure who they are, they've both got Workfrom.co sickers on their Macbooks.
FYI - If you don't have a sticker for your laptop yet--let us know!
About the venue: There's a very large table just inside the main entrance to the left that works well for a group. There are plenty of outlets and room for standing and sitting. Tilt has a full menu, coffee, tea and a full bar. The fare is blue collar American--burgers, sandwiches and salads, all large portions. There's also a big selection of pies.

As usual, more details can be found at https://workfrom.co/tilt-pearl-district

WANT TO SCHEDULE A MEETUP FOR ANOTHER DAY? Leave Jewel or Darren a note and we'll hook you up.
