create Calagator::Event 1250465286 pdxdevops: Portland DevOps user group meeting Roll back

description nil Please join us on December 16 at Jama Software to discuss *Go for System Administrators* with Kelsey Hightower. Created just 4 years ago, Go has been gaining traction in many areas from core system services like DNS and CDN, devops applications like Packer and Docker, and continues to stretch further into web applications and general processing utilities. Kelsey will be discussing the benefits he has realized by using Go as an admin's tool. I look forward to seeing everyone there! Kelsey is the Systems and Operations Manager at Monsoon Commerce, co-editor of the Golang Newsletter and recently gained committer status to Packer. *This month our meeting is sponsored by [**Volt Workforce Solutions**](http://www.volt.com/volt+workforce+solutions.aspx). Many thanks to Volt for supplying the pizza and to Jama for hosting the event!* ABOUT THE GROUP: pdxdevops is a Portland, Oregon user group that explores the glorious intersection of software development and systems operations, and shares practical advice on working effectively in an era of agile infrastructure, server automation and cloud computing. Meetings are usually on the third Monday of the month. Website: http://pdxdevops.org/ Twitter: @pdxdevops

description nil Please register to attend the event online: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/issa-portland-holiday-party-tickets-8163746987 When: Thursday, December 12, 2013 from 3:30 to 7:30 (PST) Location: Embassy Suites Portland-Washington Square Ambassador South Ballroom 9000 SW Washington Square Rd. Tigard, Oregon. 97223 Presentation: Considerations of a Mature Vulnerability management Program In this presentation, Jesika McEvoy with Rapid7 will address best practices for standing up an effective vulnerability management program. Key questions like the following will be answered: - What are the roles/responsibilities that are needed to do vulnerability management? - What kind of timelines are reasonable in terms of expectations for remediation of a vulnerability after a scanner finds it? Are there industry best practices? - When a vulnerability is found that cannot be directly remediated via a patch or configuration change, what should a company do? Are there best practices for various types of mitigating controls that should be considered? What is the role for risk acceptance, and how should risk acceptance be documented and periodically reviewed? - How can organizations take the results from traditional network vulnerability scanners, and manual penetration testing engagements from third parties, and static/dynamic application security testing (for example: Veracode) results and manage them all in a comprehensive vulnerability management program. Cost: $10 (member) / $15 (non-member) / $20 (at-the-door) CPEs: ISSA meeting are appropriate for CPE credit. The chapter maintains proof of attendance for members but it is the members responsibility to ensure that these CPE's are credited to their respective accounts.

description nil Fund raising for your start up can be tough. It's even tougher when you're trying to fund raise before you have a working prototype in customers' hands. Our usual advice: a working prototype is one of the prerequisites for raising a seed round. But AutoAp Inc. CEO Mark Paul beat the odds by raising a substantial seed round with a user interface demo, but not a working prototype. How did he do it? He will reveal all in our Dec. 3 “Startup Stories” interview. So if your struggling with your funding plan, you're sure to pick up some helpful pointers at this event! description nil <p><span>Is your donor data managed by a handful of systems that perform well for data entry tasks but that are inadequate for deep analysis especially over the long term? Or are you adept at querying your donor and gift management systems, but is doing so a laborious and time consuming task? Do you have multiple versions of the truth, and do they all compete for the attention of fundraisers and decision makers?</span> <br></p> <p>Do any of these scenarios sound familiar? Do you lack the ability to query and explore your fundraising data in an efficient, authoritative, and insightful manner?</p> <p>Using the tools and techniques of business intelligence, you can gain actionable insight about your donors and make your fundraising efforts more effective. In this session, I will demonstrate how you can use the Microsoft SQL Server business intelligence platform to create a powerful reporting solution, explore your donor file in highly interactive ways, and discover new opportunities for fundraising.</p> <p>What is Business Intelligence? <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_intelligence">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_intelligence</a> <br></p> <p>Why do you need Business Intelligence? <a href="http://www.jamesserra.com/archive/2013/03/why-you-need-business-intelligence/">http://www.jamesserra.com/archive/2013/03/why-you-need-business-intelligence/</a></p> <p>Stop by for discussion, networking with the nonprofit tech crowd, and refreshments! <br></p> <p> <br></p> <p><span style="font-size: large;"><strong>Presenter</strong></span></p> <p>Based in Portland, <b>Gregory Gross</b> develops database and business intelligence solutions primarily on the Microsoft SQL Server database platform. We'll explore how technology can help support activism and where activism can push it forward.</p>
