create Calagator::Event 1250482708 Dorkbot: September Edition Roll back

description nil People doing strange things with electricity (and code)! DorkbotPDX is a laid-back meetup and show-and-tell for those who make, modify and use technical tools to weird and imaginative ends. You might run into creative coders, electronic artists, circuit designers, retro computing archaeologists, video game devs, modular synth gearheads and cyberpunk DIYers. No featured speaker this month, but bring your electronic wonders, monsters, and works-in-progress to show off, or come see what others have been working on! Code or circuits, electronic creativity of all sorts is welcome here. Table space with power will be available for project show-and-tell; we have a table for drinks and snacks, feel free to contribute to the communal cache/BYOB. We do this every month, usually on the second Monday night (check the site for upcoming dates to be sure) Note: If you bring things to give away, please pack out anything that doesn't get claimed! We don't have the space to store unclaimed items. You can subscribe to our calendar and mailing list, join the Discord and find our social links on https://www.dorkbotpdx.org (It also has our Code of Conduct, which we'd like you to check out while you're there)

This is a low-key monthly meetup for folks working with Elixir, Erlang, Gleam, and other BEAM languages, aimed at reconnecting the local community and rebuilding momentum after a long quiet stretch. We'll holding this on the second Thursday of each month. There will be opportunities to: - Ask questions about Elixir and other BEAM languages - Share what you’ve been working on (or stuck on) - Get help with programming or design problems - Co-work: get things done with like-minded folks nearby - Brainstorm ideas for future talk-based meetups and identify potential speakers - Bring your laptop if you’d like. It's totally optional. New to BEAM languages, or just curious? You’re very welcome. Please RSVP so we know roughly how many people to expect. If your plans change, un-RSVP when you can. This meetup is also part of our transition away from Meetup to a new home for the group, where we’ll be organizing future events.

description nil Portland Design Thinkers, The Pacific NW Facilitators Guild, and North Bank Innovations are excited to host a special in-person event: Hot Topics, Cool Heads Every team has conversations where stakes are high, opinions clash, and silence is just as dangerous as conflict. This interactive workshop gives you practical techniques to facilitate those moments rather than dread them. In this 90-minute, in-person session at North Bank Innovations at The VIC, members of the Pacific Northwest Facilitators Guild share their go-to methods for keeping tempers cool when hot topics arise. Through hands-on exercises and group discussion, you'll focus on group facilitation (team meetings, cross-functional discussions, leadership off-sites), not one-on-one conflict resolution. You'll leave with several facilitation techniques for cooling down high-stakes group conversations, plus a simple plan for trying at least one of them out in a meeting sometime in the next two weeks. ABOUT THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST FACILITATORS GUILD The PNWFG is a professional collective of independent facilitators and small firms serving Oregon and Washington. The Guild exists because organizations in this region deserve better access to skilled facilitation when it matters most: the high-stakes conversations, the stalled innovations, the cross-functional tangles, the decisions that keep getting deferred. Members bring a range of methodologies and deep experience. Please RSVP and let us know if your plans change, so we can plan accordingly.

description nil Summary: Meson is the new build system on the stack and is an alternative to tools such as Autotools and CMake. Since its release in 2013 a number of large software projects such as X.org, Mesa3D, and SystemD have adopted it as their build system of choice. In this talk, I will provide an introduction to Meson by explaining how it works and what makes it different from other build systems. For developers this may be useful when choosing how to set up your next project. For users I will explain how Meson makes it easier for you to configure, build, and install your favorite FOSS projects. Bio: I am a Support Technician and Desktop Linux User who has been compiling software from source for 26 years. You can usually find me working on some random Linux hobby project or filling in for PLUG Talks when we can't find a speaker.

create Calagator::Event 1250482687 Virtual Lunch & Learn: The Scientist-CEO Communication Trap: Why Brilliant Founders Create the Exact Problem That Stalls Roll back

description nil Join us for a Virtual Lunch & Learn presented by Dr. Yoanne Clovis as she explores how PhD and MD founders can adapt their communication approach as their companies grow. As the scientist who discovered and developed your product, you are the best person in the company to explain the science to other experts in your field. You can close the first round and convince the first hires, usually also scientists. But scientists often fall into the expert trap, when your deep expertise prevents them from connecting with non-experts, like angel investors and non-scientist executives who could become your next hire or your next partner. What made you credible in the lab becomes a liability as the team grows. This session looks at the specific pattern PhD and MD founders fall into somewhere between fifteen people and sixty: the founder keeps leaning on the science and insists on leading the communications alone, long after the company has outgrown that approach. Dr. Clovis will walk through when things tend to change structurally, why “I’ll handle it myself” stops working, and what early-stage and pre-Phase II leaders can put in place now to maintain scientific integrity while growing the company.

create Calagator::Event 1250482680 The $100K Hiding in Your Payroll: AI Agents for Founders Roll back

description nil Where does payroll actually go? In most 10 to 100 person companies, a surprising share of it pays for repetitive work: copying data between tools, chasing follow-ups, redoing the same report every week. Spread across a team, that is easily six figures a year. This free hour covers which operational tasks AI agents handle reliably today, which ones still need a person, and how to run the payroll math for your own company. Taught by Jordan Calderon, a 4x bootstrapped founder with three exits. His previous agency drove $175M+ in client revenue. You will leave with a way to spot the repetitive work hiding in your own payroll, real examples of agent builds that worked and ones that did not, and live answers: bring the task eating your team's week and Jordan will work through as many as he can. Who this is NOT for: solo founders and pre-team startups. If nobody on your team is doing repetitive admin work yet, the math will not apply to you. Free and online, Tuesday September 1, 10:00 to 11:00 AM Pacific. Join on Zoom: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81342612939 (Meeting ID 813 4261 2939)
