Why Attend? Pitch Club is an event where entrepreneurs learn the criteria and methods used by real investors to evaluate their venture as a potential investment. This is done by recreating a typical investor meeting where a few companies pitch and receive feedback from TiE Oregon Charter Members. These meetings follow the same basic agenda of an investor meeting with three sections: the pitch, Q&A, and investor discussion & decision.

Who facilitates Pitch Club? Pitch Club is organized by Kari Naone, TiE Oregon Executive Director and led by Tom Kingsley, a TiE Charter Member who is an investor and successful entrepreneur.

What to expect? Please minimally prepare for a 5-minute pitch. If time permits each person could get up to 10 minutes so be prepared for that as well. This can include a slides/ppt that will be presented from your computer. Directly after pitching, Q&A and discussion will take place.

Those who attend pitch club will walk away with a better understanding of what investors look for in a pitch and how to answer the questions possible investor will ask. In addition, each presenter will receive a digital copy of their pitch and feedback from their peers and TiE Charter Members.

In the absence of a federal privacy law, states have been enacting their own laws to protect the privacy of their residents. California began the trend by passing the California Consumer Privacy Act, which became effective as of January 1, 2020. Since then, eighteen other states have passed comprehensive privacy legislation, including Oregon, the eleventh state to do so. Oregon's new law, the Oregon Consumer Privacy Act (OCPA), took effect on July 1, 2024 and gives Oregonians a new and powerful set of consumer privacy rights and protections.

The OCPA defines personal and biometric data broadly, protects consumer data rights holistically, and holds companies that have access to our data to high standards. The Act also gives consumers control over how businesses use their personal data and guarantees Oregonians affirmative rights to manage and safeguard their personal data.

While this new law may seem complicated, Dr. Katie Blevins, a Privacy Analyst with the Oregon Department of Justice, will join us this month to explain how the new law works. She'll detail both consumer rights and business obligations set forth by the new law, and she'll also discuss exemptions to the law and how any future federal laws might affect Oregon's law. Additionally, she'll share information about what you should do if you believe your rights have been violated and what happens then.

Speaker bio: Dr. Katie Blevins is a Privacy Analyst in the Civil Enforcement of the Oregon Department of Justice. She received her Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University. Prior to her arrival at the Oregon DOJ, she was a tenured professor at the University of Idaho, where she was a member of the School of Journalism & Mass Media, Co-Director of the Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies Program, and a part time member of UI’s School of Law. She has published on issues around privacy, government transparency, telecommunications law, and fourth-wave feminism. In her role at the DOJ, she generates privacy policy, helps implement and enforce relevant privacy laws, and performs outreach on behalf of the citizens of Oregon.

Semantic Layer Architecture: Top Applications and Implementation Approaches for Enterprise Data Management (with Real World Examples)

Over the last decade, we have seen some of the most exciting innovations emerge within the enterprise knowledge and data management spaces. Those innovations with real staying power have proven to drive business outcomes and prioritize intuitive user engagement. Within this list are a semantic layer (for breaking the silos between knowledge and data) and of course, generative AI (a topic that is often top of mind on today’s strategic roadmaps). Both have one thing in common—they are showing promise in addressing the age-old challenge of unlocking business insights from organizational knowledge and data, without the complexities of expensive data, system, and content migrations.

In 2019, Gartner published research emphasizing the end to “a single version of the truth” for data and knowledge management and that by 2026, “active metadata” will power over 50% of BI and analytics tools and solutions to provide a structured and consistent approach to connecting instead of consolidating data.

By employing semantic components and standards (through metadata, business glossaries, taxonomy/ontology, and graph solutions), a semantic layer arms organizations with a framework to aggregate and connect siloed data/content, explicitly provide business context for data, and serve as the layer for explainable AI.

This session will present case studies that take a deep dive in the technical architecture of a Semantic Layer, exploring the components that enable semantic capabilities, such as metadata management, data catalogs, ontology/knowledge graphs and AI infrastructure. The presentation will emphasize how these components interconnect organizational knowledge and data assets, enhancing systems like recommendation engines and semantic search and explore the top three common approaches we are seeing at play in order to weave this data and knowledge layer into the fabric of enterprise architecture, highlighting the applications and organizational considerations for each.

Lulit Tesfaye is a Partner and the Vice President for Knowledge & Data Services and Engineering at Enterprise Knowledge, LLC., the largest global consultancy dedicated to Knowledge and data management. Lulit brings over 15 years of experience leading global information and data management initiatives, specializing in technologies and integrations. Lulit is most recently focused on employing advanced Enterprise AI, knowledge graphs, and semantic layer capabilities for optimizing enterprise data and information assets.

Urmi Majumder is a Principal Architect at Enterprise Knowledge, where she leads system architecture, design, and implementation of a broad range of enterprise solutions. She has 15 years of experience leading the development of technical solutions in support of a wide variety of federal and commercial clients by integrating open-source, SaaS, and COTS tools and establishing the connection between these tools and their business users. "Apply" simply means you want to pitch, but there's no real competitive process to be accepted. We just want to see what you're working on before we put you in front of a room full of people.

You will be given 3 minutes to pitch at the event.

The audience will be given a number to text and vote for their favorite one. The one with the most votes will go home with the Demolicious Championship belt.

The belt is not for you to keep as you will have to come back and "defend" it. However, you will be allowed to put your startup sticker (if applicable) on the belt for all to see and to live on forever in infamy!

The 4K4Community Fun Run is a 4 km (2.49 mi) running and walking event that raises funds for local nonprofits and is unique in that 100% of your registration fee is tax-deductible! The 2024 beneficiaries are: POIC + Rosemary Anderson High School, Birch Community Services, Forest Park Conservancy, and Path Home.

This year, the run starts and ends downtown at World Trade Center Portland. About Us What is the Portland Retro Gaming Expo? Retro Gaming Expo, Inc. is a Portland, Oregon-based 501(c)4 non-profit cooperative organization dedicated to creating awareness of, and appreciation for classic video and arcade games through the presentation of events and conventions that celebrate the historic contribution video games have made and continue to make in popular culture.

Our Goals PRGE seeks to continually improve the quality and depth of our events. It is through events like our annual Expo that we will meet our goals:

Educate Our primary mission is to educate our visitors on the impact that video games have made on our society. Our main methods for doing this are through hands-on interaction with classic games and by hosting speaking engagemments from important figures from video game history.

Preserve The first consumer video games were created over 40 years ago. As years pass and new systems replaced the old, it does not always occur to game manufacturers and owners to preserve examples of their games for the future. PRGE believes that, by demonstrating original game hardware and software in working condition, we provide a clearer example of video game culture through the years and a better experience for our attendees.

Inspire Video games bring together multiple disciplines including mathematics, physics, art, music and drama. It is our belief that by highlighting video games of the past, we will inspire the game creators of the future in all of these areas.

What is a classic video game? Our loose definition of a classic video game is any from a system released prior to the most recent generation by any game manufacturer. By this definition the Nintendo Wii, XBox 360 and Playstation 3 have moved into the classic realm (replaced by the Wii U, XBoxOne and Playstation 4 respectively). In regard to full-size arcade cabinet games we have, somewhat arbitrarily, chosen games older than 10 years as eligible for classic status.

Who is PRGE? PRGE is operated by an all-volunteer board of rabid video game fans. In addition to our board, PRGE is supported by a small army of awesome volunteers, without whom PRGE would not happen.

How old is PRGE? Our first event was held in 2006.

Why Participate? Pitch Club is an event where entrepreneurs learn the criteria and methods used by real investors to evaluate their venture as a potential investment. This is done by recreating a typical investor meeting where a few companies pitch and receive feedback from TiE Oregon Charter Members. These meetings follow the same basic agenda of an investor meeting with three sections: the pitch, Q&A, and investor discussion & decision.

Who facilitates Pitch Club? Pitch Club is organized by Kari Naone, TiE Oregon Executive Director and led by Tom Kingsley, a TiE Charter Member who is an investor and successful entrepreneur.

What to expect? Please minimally prepare for a 5-minute pitch. If time permits each person could get up to 10 minutes so be prepared for that as well. This can include a slides/ppt that will be presented from your computer. Directly after pitching, Q&A and discussion will take place.

Those who attend pitch club will walk away with a better understanding of what investors look for in a pitch and how to answer the questions possible investor will ask. In addition, each presenter will receive a digital copy of their pitch and feedback from their peers and TiE Charter Members.

How this all works: If you are a founder, you will apply to pitch here. Don't worry. "Apply" simply means you want to pitch, but there's no real competitive process to be accepted. We just want to see what you're working on before we put you in front of a room full of people.

You will be given 3 minutes to pitch at the event.

The audience will be given a number to text and vote for their favorite one. The one with the most votes will go home with the Demolicious Championship belt.

The belt is not for you to keep as you will have to come back and "defend" it. However, you will be allowed to put your startup sticker (if applicable) on the belt for all to see and to live on forever in infamy!

If you're like me, you spend WAYYYY too much time in front of a computer. Demolicious, a monthly pitch event for early-stage startups, is thrilled to announce the first end-of-the-year Champion of Champions pitch event. Held where it all started at the famed McMenamins Mission Theater, 11 past monthly Demolicious winners will compete to become 2024 Demolicious Champion and take home the coveted championship belt!

This event is free and open to the public, but sign up asap because we expect it to be a complete sell out. A waitlist will be created once RSVPs become full.

How Demolicious works:

Team will have 5 minutes to pitch. The audience will vote. Results of the vote will be awarded the championship belt. Pretty simple right!?! Can't wait to see you there.

We're very excited to welcome you to the Portland C++ User's Group (PDXCPP) meetup! Join us in downtown Portland to hobnob, learn, and share with other Modern C++ enthusiasts! Bring your C++ questions, stories of coding adventure, and tales of debugger derring-do!

This month, we will be meeting at the Lucky Labrador Brewpub on SE Hawthorne.

NOTE: We're not really meant to be a "bar group", as kind as the folks at Lucky Lab have been. We are seeking a suitable small venue space, preferably with whiteboards and projectors. If your company is interested in hosting our group, please contact us!

If you're like me, you spend WAYYYY too much time in front of a computer. I think it would be great to have a monthly get together at a bar or pub to just get to know each other, have a brew, and yes, talk about the business. Real human interaction, in other words. Repeats the last Tuesday of every month.

Starting September 24th we will be changing venues to Romtoms, on the east side of the bridge at Burnside and 6th St. We hope there will be more room and it will be easier to find the rest of us. We look forward to seeing everyone.

If you can't find us inside look for us out in the back we may be enjoying the sunshine and the beautiful open patio.

Breakside has grown a bit too popular and we will be moving to have dinner at Ickabods for the foreseeable future. It worked great last month!
