TuesdayNov 19 2024PDXCPP - Monthly Meetup
We're very excited to welcome you to the Portland C++ User's Group (PDXCPP) meetup! Join us in downtown Portland to hobnob, learn, and share with other Modern C++ enthusiasts! Bring your C++ questions, stories of coding adventure, and tales of debugger derring-do!
This month, we will be meeting at the Lucky Labrador Brewpub on SE Hawthorne.
NOTE: We're not really meant to be a "bar group", as kind as the folks at Lucky Lab have been. We are seeking a suitable small venue space, preferably with whiteboards and projectors. If your company is interested in hosting our group, please contact us!

WednesdayAug 14 2019Designing Edtech Landscapes for Colleges
This meetup is the third in our series on designing for education and it is focused on the higher education space.
In addition to our usual networking and mingling we have a wonderful guest speaker, Trina Marmarelli, who is the Director or Instructional Technology Services at Reed College.
Trina will speak about the opportunities and challenges for incorporating technology in teaching and learning at small liberal arts colleges in general (and at Reed College in particular). She will discuss the educational technology landscape at small liberal arts colleges, how she partners with faculty members and staff outside of IT to design curricular technology projects, and considerations she keeps in mind when she evaluates and adopts new technologies at the college level.
Beverages and snacks at Lucky Lab will be provided by Clarity Innovations.
Bring your business cards (or post-its and a pen) and be ready to meet and reacquaint yourself with peers working at the intersection of education and technology. See you there!

WednesdayJul 24 2019Elasticsearch PDX Meetup
Observability with Elastic Cloud on Kubernetes While Kubernetes can dramatically simplify the task of application deployment in containers, its dynamic nature adds new complexity to monitoring services and applications running in it, as well as, the health of the containers and orchestration infrastructure itself. Elasticsearch and Beats can help, along with Kibana of course. With the release of Elastic Cloud on Kubernetes, observability just became even easier. Elastic Cloud on Kubernetes (ECK), is a new orchestration product based on the Kubernetes Operator pattern that focus critical operations like managing and monitoring multiple clusters, upgrading to new stack versions, scaling cluster capacity and changing cluster configurations. It also has the capability to dynamically scaling local storage (includes Elastic Local Volume, a local storage driver). In this meetup, we will show you how to do observability with Elastic Cloud on Kubernetes.
