DESCRIPTION:Presented by Alan Mishchenko.\n\nLast spring\, in March 2010\
, Aaron Bradley published the first truly new bit-level symbolic model c
hecking algorithm since Ken McMillan’s interpolation based model check
ing procedure introduced in 2003. Our experience with the algorithm sugg
ests that it is stronger than interpolation on industrial problems\, and
that it is an important algorithm to study further. In this paper\, we
present a simplified and faster implementation of Bradley’s procedure\
, and discuss our successful and unsuccessful attempts to improve it.\n\

DESCRIPTION:The paradigm of physical computing is well and truly here—s
ensors and microcontrollers are getting cheaper and more robust\, and th
ey are easily programmable. Long associated with gaming\, these sensors
are making their way into our everyday ‘utility’ devices. For exampl
e\, think about the average smart phone: it likely contains a proximity
 sensor\, an accelerometer/orientation sensor\, an ambient light sensor\,
a gyroscopic sensor\, and a moisture sensor. Cameras can recognize head
motion and facial gestures\; they can track body movements and compare
them to motion models. \n\nAs these sensors become part of everyday inte
ractive devices\, we are ushering in new forms of gestural interaction\,
which is changing how we interact with digital experiences and data\, a
nd changing the nature of our computer-mediated communications. In this
talk\, Elizabeth will offer some observations and speculations on how th
e world of physical computing\, broadly construed\, is changing the way
in which we interact with our devices\, each other\, and interactive dig
ital experiences.\n \nAbout the Speaker \n\nDr. Elizabeth Churchill is a
Principal Research Scientist and manager of the Internet Experiences gr
oup at Yahoo! Research. Originally a psychologist by training\, Elizabet
h has focused throughout her career on understanding the ways in which p
eople interact—whether their interactions are primarily face-to-face o
r are technologically mediated. She has published within the areas of th
eoretical and applied psychology\, cognitive science\, human-computer in
teraction\, and computer-supported cooperative work. Elizabeth has a BSc
in Experimental Psychology and a MSc in Knowledge Based Systems\, both
from the University of Sussex\, and a PhD in Cognitive Science from the
University of Cambridge. She regularly teaches at the University of Cali
fornia\, Berkeley’s School of Information. In 2010\, she was recognize
d as a Distinguished Scientist by the Association for Computing Machiner

DESCRIPTION:Have you ever begun an Agile adoption\, only to watch in dism
ay and puzzlement as the change fizzles out like a wet firecracker? Hav
e you generated excitement for these new ideas\, seen them seem to take
root and grow\, only to find a year later that people have fallen back i
nto their old ways of doing things? Or\, are they now cherry picking Ag
ile practices\, perhaps using Agile terms\, but ignoring the Agile value
s? If so\, you are not alone. In this talk\, Tamara Sulaiman Runyon
discusses some reasons why simple practice adoption is not enough\; an
d why transformation is so difficult to make stick in many organizations
. Topics include: the nature of change and complex systems models - wher
e do we fit? The key role that vision and leadership play in instigatin
g and supporting transformation\; the potential iceberg of organizatio
nal culture as a change blocker\, as well as people aspects - the leve
ls of discomfort caused by any change\; and measuring the growth of comp
etence as Agile practices and Values are assimilated. \n\nPresenter Bio
:\n\nTamara Sulaiman Runyon has been assisting teams in transitioning to
agile methods both as a hands-on ScrumMaster and as an Agile Coach and
Scrum trainer since 2003. Her passion lies in helping organizations pla
n and implement Agile transformations. In her role as Enterprise Agile C
oach at Intel\, she is deeply involved with leading and supporting Agile
teams and practices throughout the organization. \n\nShe is a Certified
Scrum Trainer (CST) and Project Management Professional (PMP). Tamara i
s the co-originator of the AgileEVM materials and processes that integra
te the traditional project management practice of Earned Value Managemen
t with the Scrum framework. As a thought leader she is currently serving
on the Agile Alliance Board of Directors. Tamara continues to publish
articles on Agile-related topics in industry publications such as Agile
  Journal\, Methods and Tools\, InfoQ\, Projects@Work and gantthead.com.
She also shares her experiences\, ideas and expertise as a presenter and
speaker at conferences.\n\n\nThis event is free and is at Puppet Labs.
It begins at 6:30 pm with pizza\, sponsored by PNSQC (Many thanks to bot
h Puppet Labs and PNSQC for supporting agile in Portland).\n\nThe progra
m starts at 7:00 pm. \n\nAfter the program you're invited to join us for
a no-host gathering at a nearby brewpub for further discussion of agile

DESCRIPTION:If you had just five minutes to showcase your cutting-edge pr
oducts\, technologies\, or methodologies\, what would you say? What if y
ou were forced to present those ideas with 20 PowerPoint slides that eac
h rotated automatically after 15 seconds?\n\nThe Software Association of
Oregon is hosting a second Ignite event on March 15th. As a speaker\, y
ou'll land a platform that challenges not only the way you present your
ideas\, but grants you access to an audience eager to listen. As an atte
 ndee\, you'll learn about emerging\, innovative\, locally-sourced concep
ts while networking with a diverse and passionate crowd of like-minded\,
  &quot\;early-adopters.&quot\;\n\n\nWhat is Ignite? \nIgnite is a fast-p
aced geek event where speakers share their personal and professional pas
sions via 20 Powerpoint slides each auto-advancing every 15 seconds\, gi
ving each speaker exactly 5 minutes of fame. Quick\, fun\, thought-provo
king\, social\, local\, global - Ignite is all of these and more. It sat
isfies the ADD in all of us. It's a high-energy evening of 5-minute talk
s by local people who have an idea - and the guts to get onstage and fin
ally give that &quot\;elevator speech&quot\; we've all been told we need
but rarely get to give.\nCall for Submissions\n\n\nCome present your ve
ry own engaging innovative topic! Submissions are due by February\, 15 2

DESCRIPTION:For any code base there comes a time when you want (or need)
to change it. If your changes are extensive\, it’s easy to get lost in
a jungle of dependencies or on a sea of broken code. Ultimately\, you m
