Roll back

Data volume is exploding. While there may be tremendous value to the business hidden within this information, it also creates risk and additional costs which need to be managed. Your legal department is faced with additional challenges, as they now are required to search through all of this electronically stored information (ESI), which can be on the order of terabytes or even petabytes in order to find the relevant facts of litigation in which it is involved. Your colleagues need data managers like yourself to help identify, store, collect and process data that may be potentially responsive to their cases.
In this session, learn how your role fits into the information governance and e-discovery processes and how you can add immediate value to help advance your career.

ResponsiveOrg Meetup
Roll back
| description |

We are gathering on April 13, 2016 to meet like-minded professionals interested in the future of meaningful work and effective teams.
Our world is increasingly complex, and traditional models for managing organizations, incentivizing workers, and fostering innovation are broken. A movement is growing that embraces openness, experimentation, empowerment, and purpose in the workplace. This movement has many influences, best summed up in the ResponsiveOrg Manifesto: http://www.responsive.org/manifesto
This event will be informed by attendees. We hope to connect, share ideas, and plan future gatherings based on the interests and enthusiasm of our fellow Portlanders. We’ll also indulge in locally-sourced beer, wine and treats as we ruminate on the meaning of responsive.
Some of the tools and approaches we bring to the table include (but are not limited by): Responsive.org, Agile, LEAN, Holacracy, B Corporations, and Equity & Inclusion initiatives.
Books we’ve been reading include: Smarter Faster Better, Teaming, How Google Works, Creativity Inc., Deep Work, Reinventing Organizations, The Connected Company, and Team of Teams.
Everyone welcome. |

Parking near the building can be scarce. The Mozilla office is close to the 11th&Couch stop and 10th&Couch stop on the NS streetcar line, and within walking distance of several bus lines. Covered bike parking is available in the courtyard that you cross to get to Mozilla's building, across from the Peet's Coffee and Tea seating area.
The building is mostly wheelchair-accessible, in that there are no unavoidable stairs and the outside door has an automatic opening switch. Restroom doors on the 3rd floor and Mozilla office door are not automatic.
Food is not planned for the event. |

In a World Without DevOps...
Roll back
| description |
<p><b>Presentation Summary:</b></p> <p>10 years ago, the world had yet to hear of "DevOps." The software development landscape was cold, unforgiving, and littered with power-mad systems administrators who held all of the keys in your quest for success as a developer.</p> <p>OK, so there may be a little hyperbole there. But the software development industry is changing rapidly, and we've gained a lot of ground even just in the past decade. Take a trip down memory lane with Tommy as he explores some of his experiences with systems administration and software development, and how he's learned to apply those lessons to the DevOps approach he enables at Treehouse.</p> <p>
<b>About the Speaker:</b></p> <p><img src="http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/8/2/7/0/600_447933392.jpeg"></p> <p>Tommy Morgan is the Vice President of Engineering at Treehouse, and has been in the software development industry for over a decade. Through his career he's worked with some very interesting companies - from self-described "lobster trap" companies (it's as bad as it sounds) you've never heard of to top brands like Coca-Cola. As a big fan of learning from your mistakes, Tommy leans on his experiences as a developer, system administrator, and manager to guide process and policy across his team of web, mobile, data, and infrastructure engineers.</p> <p><br><b><br></b></p> <p><b>About the Venue:</b></p> <p>Treehouse is an online school that looks to bring affordable technology education to people everywhere. We want to help people achieve their dreams by giving them a helpful, highly interactive, and well-designed education experience that lets them learn development in ways that weren't possible (or affordable) even five years ago.

Does the Buyer's Journey Fit in Today's Customer-Led Environment?
Roll back
| description |
nil |

With each new tool and prospect, the B2B marketing landscape shifts. Alongside these changes, the use cases of pre-defined templates and processes for understanding our audience move minute-to-minute. Marketers need to react more quickly to the needs of their customers and advocates and such real-time engagement has a multiplier effect on our lead funnels.
Join the [TAO Marketing Community](https://www.techoregon.org/get-involved/communities-labs/marketing) as we explore the shift from leading, to being customer-led, including:
*Are the days of a pre-defined buyer's journey becoming a thing of the past?
*How can we all be good listeners and good marketers?
*Is there a multiplier effect when we measure the impact of advocacy on the lead funnel?
The hand-selected panel by our TAO Marketing Committee will host a group of Oregon's tech marketing leaders to share their stories and advice. All attendees are encouraged to join the conversation, share experiences, and get answers to burning questions.
### Panelists
**Bill Schneider** - Senior Director of Product Marketing, Urban Airship
**Pinky Gonzales** - Director of Marketing, Digimarc
**Julie Zisman** - Head of Marketing, Little Bird
**Janet Johnson** - Consulting CMO, O'Johnson Partner

Architecting Access to Healthcare
Roll back
| description |
In the face of massive healthcare changes, access to healthcare is a difficult and important problem to solve. Barriers to care access can include: price transparency, no price expectations, ineffective financing, general lack of convenience, dwindling numbers of physicians, inability to access transportation, unintegrated clinical information, limited hours of provider operations, confusing insurance coverage and difficult scheduling. At the same time, there are a plethora of new approaches, technologies, applications and services being created to improve access to healthcare. As consumer-centered care takes over as the norm, the expectations for care delivery services and access to health care are being compared to other services in our day to day life. Consumers are beginning to ask why things can’t be easier and why people in the healthcare industry can’t seem to cooperate to make the lives of consumers easier. Everyone in the industry has clearly gotten the message that consumer-centered healthcare is where the industry is heading; however, IT is still viewed as a barrier and an enabler.
Enterprise architects have the difficult role of trying to help transform organizations to improve access to care by defining the business, information, technology and application architectures required to improve access to healthcare. At the same time, they are expected to solve the problem from the consumer’s perspective and make a complex healthcare system appear to be easy to navigate from the consumer’s perspective. Architects are expected to look across the landscape of technologies, information and business models and produce integrated solutions that leverage new developments and also break down existing IT barriers.
In this session, you'll hear from three architects in healthcare about their views about how to solve the problem of access to health care. When registering, you will have a chance to submit your questions in helping to build the program.

Untangling using Om.Next with Untangled w/ Tony Kay
Roll back
| description |

The Untangled web framework is a ClojureScript web framework that blends various web development libraries together with a good bit of glue code to make single-page webapps a breeze.
Untangled leverages a lot of things that were pioneered in Om 1.0 by David Nolen, and adds it's own layers of simplification and opinion.
It is a full-stack environment, but you can pick and choose the pieces you wish to use.
We'll discuss the basic idea of the bits you need to develop an Om.Next app and cover how Untangled provides a lot of that for you.
You may want to checkout this overview, companion video as well as the Om.Next quick start and the Untangled tutorial.
Bio: Tony Kay works at NAVIS in Bend. He's been doing software development since the mid-80s in most of the common suspects: C, C++, Java, Scala, Clojure, Javascript. Tony is currently the technical lead on new software development, where he's driven the adoption of Clojure/Clojurescript and worked as the lead on the Untangled Web Framework project, which they use to develop our production software. His interests include fermenting random things for gluten-free sourdough bread, cooking, making software engineering better as a profession, and barefoot hiking. |
