Join the [TAO Project Management Community](www.techoregon.org/get-involved/communities-labs/project-management) in a discussion on the Role of the Project Manager in an Agile Environment on Tuesday, April 5th at 5:30 pm at [CENTRL Office](http://centrloffice.com/).
Some questions we’ll be pondering:
*What the heck does a Project Manager do in an Agile environment?
*What are the difference between Product Owner vs. Project Manager?
*How do you manage client facing expectations?
*How do the framework, processes, interactions with stakeholders change?
*How do you estimate in Agile?

<p>Thursdays are open house night here at CTRL-H. This is when members gather and can open the door for you. We know we can be there by 7:00PM, but most of the time we are hours early. We don't have an opening ceremony or any formal meeting. This is a time for you to eavesdrop on other peoples projects and get support on a project that you may need help with. Bring your inventions, your technical toys and your broken microwave to CTRL-H and Hack with friends.</p> |

Refresh Portland—Jane Austen on Python: Tips from an English Major on Writing Better Code
Roll back
| description |

With two English degrees, Lacey Williams Henschel has identified some concrete ways having a Lit background makes for a better developer. This talk discusses how developers can take lessons from literature to write more readable code, make better tests, and create more usable websites.
We’ll compare Two Scoops of Django to Strunk and White’s The Elements of Style, that familiar Freshman Comp text, exploring how they are more alike than they are different. We’ll discuss the importance of readability, creating a “story arc” in your tests through good user stories, how variables names have characterization, and the importance of whitespace and good formatting to everyone. We’ll also compare PEP8, the Python style guide, to the MLA Handbook; there’s a reason both disciplines have a style guide! |

RSVP please, at http://www.meetup.com/Portland-Azure-User-Group/events/229821355/
In this talk, we'll hear why application performance monitoring (APM) is fundamentally important for cloud computing and how APM can be implemented in Azure. We'll survey a variety of performance monitoring features that are native to Azure as well as 3rd party vendors that offer APM solutions in the Azure marketplace such as Riverbed AppInternals, New Relic, and Microsoft AppInsights. We'll also hear how performance monitoring strategies are different depending on whether you're monitoring IaaS, PaaS, or SaaS assets, and we'll see specific examples that demonstrate APM techniques for Azure virtual machines, Azure Cloud Services, Azure Service Fabric, Azure Web Sites, and Sharepoint Online. |

Confessions of an Entrepreneur "Wild Friends: The Story of Two Accidental Entrepreneurs"

| description |

And so the story goes…
…at the University of Oregon, Keeley and Erika were in their college apartment, scraping the bottom of yet another empty jar of peanut butter. As hungry college students and athletes, they ate a lot of peanut butter, and on this occasion, neither of them felt like biking to the store in the rain to buy more. So, they decided to try making their own! That day, Wild Friends was born.
More than four years have passed since the day they made that first jar. They’ve left their college apartment behind and are now based in Portland, Oregon. They’ve launched dozens of new flavors of nut butter and sell in thousands of stores across the country.
However, despite all these changes, a few things have stayed the same — most importantly, their passion for awesome tasting products, made with the healthiest whole ingredients they can find. |

Have you ever had an idea for improving education? Here's your opportunity to transform your education ideas into action in 54 hours. Find the right people with complimentary skills and passion to work and learn with along the way. No tech skills required! Pitch your idea (or even better a problem/solution), then test it with real potential customers and receive coaching from industry experts in technology and education from the Portland Metro area. Join a community ready to help you take your concept to the next level!
We're looking for passionate educators, parents, students, developers, designers and business/non-profit professionals who want to make a difference in education now. Come learn the basics of founding and launching a successful education venture while solving real problems being experienced in Portland today.
<b>Schedule</b>
In 54 hours, participants share ideas, form teams, build products and launch education ventures. Startup Weekend EDU begins with open-mic, 60-second pitches Friday night that result in the formation of small teams around the best, most viable concepts. Teams spend Saturday and Sunday morning focusing on customer development, validating their ideas and building prototypes with the help of experienced coaches. On Sunday afternoon, teams demo their education solutions and receive valuable feedback from a panel of expert judges. All of the pitches on Friday and companies demoed on Sunday will be educator approved and designed to solve problems in the education space, broadly defined (not restricted to K-12 or other “formal” education).
