update Calagator::Event 1250472686 Driving Retail Growth through Technology Innovation Roll back

description ***Registration through Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-driving-retail-growth-through-technology-innovation-tickets-38715540223) is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event *** Description: QuoteCenter, located in Vancouver, Washington, was a $0 sales channel upon its acquisition by The Home Depot in 2013. By 2016, QuoteCenter drove more than $650 million in pro contractor sales to the world's fourth largest retailer, The Home Depot. However, with the growth in online marketplaces and the professional contractor market, QuoteCenter is fast becoming the confluence of products and services that pro contractors need to purchase the materials they need to serve their customers. Although their history lies in the in-store buying experience, QuoteCenter finds itself on the doorstep of a new age in commerce that blends technology innovation with the agility of a most talented retail workforce. Join us in learning how The Home Depot QuoteCenter is leading the way into an exciting new commerce age. QuoteCenter has become a model for employers in the Portland area for how to build a strong, diverse team. An original Clark County rural startup, they struggled early to build a diverse team of professionals. In the last 9 months, however, 40% of their 51 new hires have been women. Agenda: Welcome “How we turned the QuoteCenter diversity trend around” by Mike Lee, Talent Acquisition “Where I fit in at the Quote Center” by Kelly Smith, Senior Reporting Analyst “The only one in the room: success and failure on the way to diversity" by Whitney Williams, Front End Developer Q & A Event FAQ Q: What is the parking situation? A: Paid Street parking is available. Q: Is there secured bike parking? A: The secure bike parking is in the parking garage and requires a FOB for the building. However, there are racks in front of the building. Q: Should I consider using public transportation? A: We are close to the street car and not far from bus routes. However, we would recommend driving, and plenty of street parking is available. Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Trans and non-binary people are always welcome at our events. ***Registration through Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-driving-retail-growth-through-technology-innovation-tickets-38715540223) is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event *** Description: QuoteCenter, located in Vancouver, Washington, was a $0 sales channel upon its acquisition by The Home Depot in 2013. create Calagator::Event 1250472690 AgilePDX: If You're Agile, Dance! Roll back

description nil Today companies need Agile throughout. But how can they go beyond software to include even board and basic legal structure? Share and comment on the journey Jutta Eckstein and I are on to answer that question. We first generalize the Manifesto to values of: self-organization, transparency, constant customer focus, and continuous learning. Then, deepen these values by adding Beyond Budgeting, Open Space, Sociocracy. A new organigram emerges that synthesizes board, inspiration, resource support, and value center perspectives and focuses them on the customer. Finally, use Cynefin to implement company-wide Agility, and then dance! Format: The presentation will cycle between presenting ideas, posing questions audience small groups, and providing brief moments for sharing and reflection. Bio: John Buck lives near Washington, DC, USA, and is a division director for The Sociocracy Group, an international foundation headquartered in Rotterdam, Netherlands. John has led dozens of sociocracy implementation projects for a variety of organizations around the globe, ranging from schools and neighborhoods to NGOs and for-profit manufacturers and IT companies using Agile. He believes that such basic values as equality, effectivness, and transparency can make our work places dramatically more elegant and sustainable. He excels in customizing sociocracy principles to each organization’s particular concerns, work schedules, and professional areas. John was the first person outside of The Netherlands to receive consultant certification from The Sociocracy Group in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He has translated numerous documents from the original Dutch and is coauthor (with Sharon Villines) of We the People: Consenting to a Deeper Democracy, 2007 & updated 2017. Another book, Company-Wide Agility with Beyond Budgeting, Open Space, and Sociocracy, coauthored with Jutta Eckstein, is 70% complete in LeanPub.com. He also is part of a joint project with Fujitsu's Advanced Software Lab to create an app called Weaver to support meetings in-person, online, and offline. Education and credentials -- Master of Science degree in Quantitative Sociology, The George Washington University -- Certified Sociocratic Consultant

description nil ***Registration through Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-driving-retail-growth-through-technology-innovation-tickets-38715540223) is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event *** Description: QuoteCenter, located in Vancouver, Washington, was a $0 sales channel upon its acquisition by The Home Depot in 2013. Trans and non-binary people are always welcome at our events.

description nil At this meeting of Office 365 PDX we’ll be talking about how end-users can get to work with Power BI. We're thinking of this class as a "Power BI Flight School", where we are teaching the basics of how end-users will navigate and use Power BI, not how to build or maintain complex reports. We will dive into viewing dashboards, reports, understanding natural language query, Excel, and the other tools a user needs. No prior experience with Power BI is necessary, this session is not very technical, and we’ll be handing out log-in information to get you hands-on in a pre-built environment. Just bring a modern laptop with wifi and an up-to-date web browser. Please RSVP on the Meetup.com page.

create Calagator::Event 1250472665 Happy Startup School Roll back

description nil Welcome to the first meet up of the Happy Startup School's Portland Chapter! On 12 October we'll be hosting an intimate gathering of likeminded people that believe there's more to life and business than making money. Launched in the UK in 2012, The Happy Startup School has grown from a small meetup in London to a global community of purpose-driven founders, creatives and leaders that regularly gather to inspire each other and have the conversations that matter. They run experiences and programs that set people on the right path, where money and meaning meet. For our first event we are also lucky enough to have Laurence McCahill and Carlos Saba, founders of the Happy Startup School with us, as they pass through on their way to Alptitude USA – their week-long retreat for changemakers at Mount Hood that takes place October 15-22. They'll share their story, ask questions and get us all sharing ideas and learning from each other. Who's it for? Do you feel a compulsion to get a new project, product, app or service that you believe in, live and into the real world? Are you a skilled tech, design or marketing professional attracted to the energy of the startup scene? Or are you just super energised and excited to help someone bring their vision to the world? If so, come and join us for an evening of structured but agenda-less small group conversation. For those new to Lean coffee, it is a structured but agenda-less meeting. Participants gather, democratically choose the topic of discussion by vote, then get talking. Simples. There are dozens of Lean Coffee meetups happening across the world in places like Seattle, San Francisco, Toronto, Stockholm, Edinburgh, Brighton and now we can add Portland to that list. Who usually comes along? • budding startups • intrapreneurs • small business owners • one man bands • people with a passion for startups • ...and anyone who simply wants to learn, or create. Topics regularly discussed within small groups are: • productivity hacks • how to test an idea without having customers • building a 100% transparent company • pricing your services effectively • how to find designers/developers • how to choose the right product features • community building hacks • growth & content marketing ...but we welcome all sorts of startup, business and happiness related topics you might need help with. Look forward to seeing you there.
