create Calagator::Event 1250471259 AgilePDX January Roundtable: Why a scrum master is not a secretary Roll back

description nil Let's kick off the new year and dig down in some great discussion around Agile topics! Last month we voted to discuss "Why a scrum master is not a secretary! (what a scrum master does and does not do)" Have you ever known a Scrum Master who is the secretary to a team? Maybe even yourself? While this can save other team members time initially and may create a sort of glue or thread for the team, is it positive energy for the team or can it be detrimental? Does it affect our goals to guiding self-organized teams? Bring your stories and experiences, positive or negative. Help other teams, and your own, identify possible problems with Scrum Master implementations and solutions for them.

create Calagator::Event 1250471258 Advanced Data Visualization - DAMA PDX Roll back

description nil The world produces more than 2.5 exabytes of data every day. There is just too much information out there and traditional reports using tabs, rows and columns do not paint the whole picture any longer. Visualization is one key approach to gaining insight from this mountain of data. Advanced Visualizations Platforms have enabled the use of more dynamic and interactive business graphics, such as real-time dashboards and charts that update automatically as the data changes. It enables knowledge workers to see the trends and patterns (along with gaps and outliers) in the data that are not as easily identified in rows and columns of numbers. Even Data Scientists are leveraging advanced visualizations tools to explore, understand and communicate insights, along with the actions that need to be taken. In this session, we will explore how advanced visualization tools are being utilized in the era of big data to draw valuable business insights and we will also delve into some of the predominant data visualization tools being used by Data Scientists. <h3>Speaker</h3> Amit P. He is an avid follower of technology trends and has published articles in leading online journals and has presented at several technology conferences. create Calagator::Event 1250471257 Magic Night - Javascript Code Challenge Roll back

description nil Magic Night is a hands on, team oriented, Javascript coding lab, welcoming of all experience levels and backgrounds. We get together because coding is fun; fun to solve hard problems, and fun to work together. We organize into small teams to code up creative solutions to a common challenge, then after 3 hours of building, present to the group. Today's magic night challenge is to build an animal quiz program. It works like this. The program starts by telling the user to think of an animal. It then begins asking a series of yes/no questions about that animal: does it swim, does it have hair, etc. Eventually, it will narrow down the possibilities to a single animal and guess that (Is it a mouse?). update Calagator::Event 1250471248 Solutions Thinking for Product Managers Roll back

description Product managers and product teams face unprecedented challenges as business environments and product ecosystems become increasingly complex and unpredictable. Customers have tremendous freedom to choose among competing products, and user experience has become a big factor in many purchase decisions. Time-to-market pressure is unrelenting, while product complexity and technical challenges keep increasing. In this environment, businesses must offer solutions that solve the right problem for the right consumer at the right time and the right price. Solutions Thinking offers a fresh look at how to develop holistic solutions for customer problems. Solutions Thinking helps teams balance business, usage, and technology to create a compelling and sustainable set of products and services to meet the customer’s current and future needs. Solutions Thinking helps teams go from opportunities to solutions using a value-driven approach, and works with traditional, Agile, and hybrid development life cycles. Many teams just focus on making products when they should be thinking about developing solutions. Solutions Thinking blends a unique collection of proven industry models into a coherent methodology for solution development. The approach is specifically designed to work in complex environments. *This is a free, one-hour introduction to Solutions Thinking, which is typically a day-long workshop. We will not have time to cover topics in depth. After an overview of the topics, there will be time for a deeper dive into one additional module based on participant preferences. If you would like to participate in the day-long workshop on February 21st, please make a reservation here. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/solutions-thinking-for-product-managers-tickets-30741063348 Who typically attends? description nil Product managers and product teams face unprecedented challenges as business environments and product ecosystems become increasingly complex and unpredictable. Who typically attends? Product managers, Product owners, product planners, product marketing, architects, designers, product engineers, and others working on holistic solution discovery, definition, design, and delivery.

description nil Agile development methods and practices are radically different from ‘waterfall’ or sequential, phased approaches. Agile development has become mainstream in software development over the last decade and has recently spread beyond software to other domains. It is important for leaders and manager to understand how to build, develop, and lead Agile teams -- not just for your company, but also for your own career. This workshop introduces leaders and managers to a cohesive set of methods, practices, and principles to maximize business results from Agile and Lean development, while also cultivating a workplace where people thrive. The workshop defines and clarifies the roles of leaders, first-line managers, middle managers, and executives using materials drawn from over a decade of Agile and Lean adoption experience covering tens of thousands of people within Fortune 100 companies. It also addresses what does and doesn't work well in Agile and Lean adoptions across a diverse set of global cultures.

description nil Hi, The Lawgen Project is basically an effort to create a 'Wikipedia for solutions to all problems', that also has new communication tools and lets groups of all sizes make decisions, trade, and collaborate. At the moment we're looking for both programmers, (see: http://www.volunteermatch.org/search/opp2560426.jsp#.WGYM8QZnX ) -And for Open Source, Direct Action, and Direct Democracy advocates to interview on the 6th. We have a camera crew and an advocate for Open Source that we'll be interviewing around 3, so we figured 4 would be a great time for others to show up. For anyone curious we have visual and written walkthroughs posted at Lawgen.org All questions and feedback are welcome, our email is [email protected]
