description nil TiE Oregon, TiE Seattle, TiE Vancouver BC and TiE Rockies are coming together to host the first-ever TiECon Northwest in Portland Oregon on January 25-26th. This 1.5 day conference will bring together entrepreneurs and investors and will highlight three disruptive technology sectors – Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Healthcare, and Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality/Mixed Reality. The possibilities seem huge and there is tremendous hype, full of great buzzwords and slogans but for investors and entrepreneurs, key questions still exist regarding these technologies: What is the value? How can such value be unlocked? Is now the right time? What are the specific approaches, applications and markets that these technologies can be utilized in? What do these sectors need in order to continue to grow? Join us at TiECon Northwest as we bring together experts in these sectors for interactive panel discussions, keynotes, and opportunities to network with entrepreneurs and investors throughout the northwest. PITCH NORTHWEST The conference will end with a pitch competition, Pitch Northwest! Pitch Competition Criteria Pitch Northwest is available to pre-series A companies from all industries. create Calagator::Event 1250471182 Open Science Data Jamboree and Hackathon Roll back

description nil Join us for a special OHSU Open Science Data Jamboree & Hackathon - Everyone is Welcome! The December Data Jamboree will focus on the power of open content and data to advance biomedical research and human health. Dr. Erick Turner, Associate Professor at OHSU and Staff Psychiatrist at the Portland VA Medical Center, will introduce OpenTrialsFDA (http://opentrials.net/opentrialsfda/), which is a finalist for the highly competitive Open Science Prize. OpenTrialsFDA aims to increase access to and the utility of FDA drug approval packages. These review packages often contain information on clinical trials that have never been published. When these “inconvenient truths” are integrated into a systematic review or meta-analysis, it can sometimes dramatically shift a drug’s risk-benefit ratio. Although the FDA makes the reviews available via its web portal Drugs@FDA, the documents are notoriously difficult to search and aggregate. As a consequence, they are rarely used by clinicians and researchers, despite their immense value. OpenTrialsFDA intends to change this by allowing researchers, clinicians, the public, developers, and third party platforms to access, search, and build upon this data. Dr. Turner’s keynote talk will be followed by an overview of the NIH’s new clinical trial data sharing requirements and two concurrent hands-on sessions: The first will be a deep dive on searching the OpenTrialsFDA website, understanding the contents of an FDA drug approval package, and how the data can benefit different use cases, such as meta analysis and systematic reviews. The second will be a OpenTrialsFDA hackathon using the OpenTrials API (https://api.opentrials.net/v1/docs/). Attendees will have the opportunity to use their research, development, clinical, and visualization expertise (to name a few) to explore, present, and build upon the OpenTrials data and the OpenTrialsFDA application. Please note, no technical expertise is required, as there will be multiple ways of contributing. The Data Jamboree is presented by OHSU Computational Biology and the OHSU Library. All are welcome to attend, including OHSU faculty, students, and staff as well as Portland area science enthusiasts and developers! Built in Node.js, Dat can be used to version data locally, or to share and sync data over the internet. Dat includes an optional peer-to-peer distribution system, meaning that the more widely that a dataset is shared, the faster it is for users to retrieve or sync a copy, and the more redundant that the dataset’s availability becomes. By building tools to build and share data pipelines, we aim to bring to data a style of collaboration similar to what Git brings to source code, while bringing a style of sharing similar to what Dropbox brings to file generally. Note that while Dat is a designed as a general-purpose tool, our team focuses on its use in the sciences. *If you are attending, organizing or speaking at our event, you are required to agree with our Code of Conduct.* Questions? With over 1500 positions across institutions in the PDX metro area, higher ed offers a wealth of opportunities for folks in tech. Join PDXWIT and Reed College for a tech networking and learning event. Our focus is on information sharing for women and people of other genders generally underrepresented in the tech field. All allies are welcome and encouraged to attend. The Reed community supports individuals with identities from across the spectrum. A significant part of that support involves actively combating racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, religious intolerance, ableism, and all forms of oppression and marginalization. Kristina King and Marianne Colgrove are the organizers for the event, which will feature: - Welcome & Introduction to Reed College Happy hour and networking Lightning round talks, including: Tech opportunities in higher ed (jobs and more) (Marianne Colgrove, Deputy CIO, Reed College) - Teaching (with) technology (Kristin Bott, Associate Director of Instructional Technology Services, Reed College) - How bringing our authentic selves to the workplace is part and parcel of increasing diversity in tech (Kathy Lee, Windows Software Developer) - Servant Leadership in Times of Distress: Cherishing Uncertainty in a Black and White World (Marie Daniels, Owner at Me Out Loud, LLC) - I can do anything; get out of my car! Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering: educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women.
