<p>We'll discuss Brett Harned's recent book, Project Management For Humans: Helping People Get Things Done.</p> <p>The author will join the discussion for Q+A, remotely, around 6:00.</p> <p>You can purchase a copy of the book at Amazon<br>(<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Project-Management-Humans-Helping-People/dp/1933820519" class="linkified">https://www.amazon.com/Project-Management-Humans-Helping-People/dp/1933820519</a>)</p> <p>or Rosenfeld Media<br>(<a href="http://rosenfeldmedia.com/books/project-management-for-humans/" class="linkified">http://rosenfeldmedia.com/books/project-management-for-humans/</a>).</p> <p><br>About the book:</p> <p>Project management—it’s not just about following a template or using a tool, but rather developing personal skills and intuition to find a method that works for everyone. Whether you’re a designer or a manager, Project Management for Humans will help you estimate and plan tasks, scout and address issues before they become problems, and communicate with and hold people accountable.</p> <p>About the author:</p> <p>Brett Harned is a digital project management consultant, coach, and community advocate from Philadelphia, PA. Prior to starting his consultancy, he was Vice President of Project Management for Happy Cog. In that role, he mentored a team of PMs and managed projects for companies like Zappos, MTV, and Monotype. Brett began blogging about his adventures in project management at brettharned.com when he realized that there was a void in the industry for people in the digital PM role. He has had the privilege to speak at various events internationally and has written for widely read industry websites and publications. One of the most satisfying projects of Brett's career has been building a global All participants must read and abide by Puppet Labs' Event Code of Conduct below:</p> <p>Event Code of Conduct</p> <p>Exhibitors, speakers, sponsors, staff and all other attendees at events organized by Puppet Labs (PuppetConf, Puppet Camps, training classes, and others) or held at Puppet Labs facilities are subject to these Community Guidelines and Code of Conduct. PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) Volunteer with Girls Inc.
Roll back
| description |
***Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-volunteer-wgirls-inc-tickets-43483541443] is required to gain entry to this event ***
At the March 9th Trail Blazers game, PDXWIT is partnering with Girls Inc. to sell raffle tickets for a 50/50 Raffle. Proceeds will go to Girls Inc.
Girls Inc. of the Pacific Northwest inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. They equip girls aged 6-18 with the skills and confidence to access a bright and economically-independent future, through after school programs and experiences that help girls grow up to be healthy, educated, and independent.
Note, this is a volunteer event that requires 3-4 hours of standing, walking, and sales of raffle tickets to the general public. Talking points to assist with sales will be provided. Additionally, volunteers will be provided tickets to the Blazers game to watch the second half.
Agenda:
4:50 p.m. - meet at Moda Center box office to check-in as a volunteer (all volunteers must arrive before 5 p.m.) and receive instructions
5:00 p.m. - leave box office to enter Moda Center
5:30 p.m. - doors open to general public, sales begin
End of halftime - turn in equipment at 5050 booth on the 100 level concourse near entry to A7 After equipment is returned, volunteers can leave or enjoy the remainder of the game from their seats.
Event FAQ
Q: Will there be gender neutral restrooms?
A: Yes, Gender neutral bathrooms are located at A21 on the 100-Level, and C15 on the 300-Level.
Q: Is the space ADA accessible?
A: Volunteers will be circulating the building for about 3 hours, and so it does require the ability to stand/walk for about that long. Should that be a barrier for some, we do have a booth on the 3rd level that will require 2 volunteers to be stationary.
The building is ADA accessible, and there are also ADA tickets available for the game afterwards. If any volunteers require ADA accessible game tickets, please let us know in advance so we can reserve some!
Q: Where there be food and drink at this event?
A: None will be provided. There are concessions with food for purchase available after the volunteer portion of this event has concluded (after 3rd quarter of the game begins).
Q: What is the parking situation?
A: Parking near the Moda Center on game day is in high demand. Free street parking is limited and neighboring lots usually charge between $10 and $25, but you are welcome to pay to park in any of these spaces. DO NOT park in the Lloyd Center parking structure or any neighboring lots without permission, as you risk getting your vehicle ticketed or impounded.
Q: Is there secured bike parking?
A:. Bike parking is available behind the box office, as well as various other stations around the Moda Center campus.
Q: Should I consider using public transportation?
A: Yes! Several public transportation options including the bus, MAX, and Street Car can be taken to the Moda Center. The Rose Quarter Transit Center is located at the South end of the Moda Center and the Street Car stops are at the North end. Visit
trimet.org if you need help planning your trip.
Purpose:
PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women.
Our events are inclusive. ALL people who support our purpose are welcome.

Your idea in 54 hours
Do you have an idea you'd like to pursue or a problem you'd like to solve but don't know where to start or who to start with?
Techstars Startup Weekend is the place to look for a team, create a prototype of your idea, validate your business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, all in one weekend.
What do you need to bring?
Lots of energy! You'll pitch your own idea or listen to others, then vote on the most interesting ideas and form teams with diverse skill sets. You can come with friends, but you’ll get the full experience if you participate in separate teams. Remember, it’s all about the team.
Your idea should be something you have not previously worked on. The idea you pitch and the problem you set out to solve can span social, educational, financial, environmental, or other issues. Over the course of the weekend, you'll be challenged to create a prototype of your MVP, or minimum viable product, that fits the needs of your target customer. You'll get feedback, iterate, and likely pivot your approach entirely! Important: You cannot have worked previously on your idea.
Techstars Startup Weekend is a full weekend-long experience. Your ticket includes:
7 full (and delicious) meals over the course of the weekend
Benefits and discounts from our global partners
One-on-one time with amazing mentors
A new network of developers, designers, and entrepreneurs eager, like you, to change the world.
All the internet and coffee you can consume.
Watch the video below to see what you can expect, and if you’re feeling inspired click on the “Buy Ticket” button now!
Still have questions, feel free to reach us at “[email protected]”. |
