create Calagator::Event 1250473420 AgilePDX: Reframing Scrum for Hardware Roll back

description nil Have you ever wondered how Scrum might be applied to something other than software development? Join us to hear Kris Dobelstein share insights, takeaways, and practical examples from his life-changing journey to Scrum during one of his employer’s most pivotal product development efforts during the last decade. This is a highly interactive session where we open up the conversation and use a Lean Coffee format to let participants explore insights, share thoughts, and pose follow-up questions. If you're new to Lean Coffee, you can learn more at leancoffee.org. If you're not, you know how much fun this self-organizing discussion format is! Bio: Kris Dobelstein is currently a project manager and principal hardware development engineer at Dynon Avionics in Canby, Oregon. He has worked in avionics for his entire professional career and has fulfilled the roles of engineer, functional manager, Scrum Master, and Product Owner. Kris firmly believes that technology serves two purposes: 1) to make the human experience better and 2) to enable personal and professional growth through the development of said technology. He strongly prefers using Agile methodologies because they align so well with these beliefs. He is a native of the Pacific Northwest and is constantly learning about technology, experimenting with different leadership strategies, and is raising four tiny human beings. description nil Ryan Carson, CEO of Portland educational platform Treehouse will sit down to talk about education and why colleges may not be the right path for some people looking to launch their programming careers. The chat will touch on cost and why the traditional path of going through college may not be right for everyone. Aside from the financial burden traditional educational institutions place on students, Ryan will talk about why platforms like Treehouse break down these barriers to create an entire new community of talented developers. Josh Carter, CEO of Patriot Boot Camp, will be moderating.

create Calagator::Event 1250473418 AgilePDX Westside Cafe: Best practices for part-time Scrum Masters Roll back

description nil Serving a team as a scrum master while simultaneously playing another role (dev, qa, product owner, etc) can be challenging. How do you manage things if: - The team has identified one or more blockers, but you have other work that you really need to get done. - You are focused on something else (some head twisting dev work, perhaps) when your product owner has questions about how to write a particular story. - You are in the middle of facilitating a contentious retrospective topic and you'd like to add your opinions to the discussion. Are you a scrum master who also has other responsibilities on the team? Have you watched others try to do it? What helped? What made it hard? Join us for our discussion of this important topic at the Westside Cafe Lunch.

update Calagator::Event 1250473416 An Astonishing Fact about the Universe Roll back

description Join our online conference at https://zoom.us/j/336845181 Over Millions of Years, Evolution has been establishing mechanisms in mammals, including in humans, that, when triggered appropriately and at optimal time intervals, can introduce profound positive changes in our physical and cognitive health. Ancient peoples around the world figured out how to trigger these mechanisms by a wide variety of intervention techniques. Herbs, health enhancing spiritual practices, body manipulations, and, in East Asia, the use of pressure points and sharp sticks. The Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine systems are just the two most sophisticated systems for health discovered by the ancients around the globe. Fast forward a few thousand years... These techniques still work, some profoundly so. But now, also, we have dramatically increased clarity about the physiological and biological basis for their efficacy: they all, in one way or another, inhibit inflammatory processes in those who use them. The image above contains pics from 3 scientific Survival Probability studies. On the left, electro-acupuncture was shown to profoundly increase survival probability in rodents after lethal inflammation administration. On the right, most rodents receiving doses of acetylcholine or had a specific vagus nerve fiber stimulated survived puncturing of their intestines and the inflammation that followed. And, in older, wild-type humans, those with higher Heart Rate Variability had a significantly increased probability of survival vis-a-vis those with lower HRV. What is the single Biological Mechanism of Action underlying all three study results? In his talk on February 25th, Steve Buss will summarize that ancient history, review scientific study images of the key biological mechanism underlying the study results above, and summarize the science around how this mechanism might be triggered through cognitive mechanisms interesting to spiritual communities. Evidently, Evolution has been establishing mechanisms in humans that provide for increasing leverage over our cognitive and physical health through Consciousness Awareness practices. Steve will also review recent advances in technology that might facilitate Increased Conscious Leverage over the Biological Mechanisms discovered by the ancients thousands of years ago. He'll also briefly describe his interest in leading a monthly SACC discussion group focused on consciousness, health, and/or longevity science. A comment to this meetup contains links to short videos providing helpful background for this talk. - - - - - - - - - - Steve had a serious health crisis 20 years ago. Since then, he's spent 10,000+ hours researching and writing pseudonymously about the innate mechanisms we have within us for triggering greater health, including the mechanism of consciousness. At his last blood test, his Teloyear age was 44 while his calendar year age was 18 years older. He once accidentally cured himself of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. He’s worked as a Database Application Software Engineer for 35 years. He is the organizer of The Bend Big Picture Book Club meetup. description nil [**ML4ALL**](http://ml4all.org) is a two day conference focusing on machine learning, to be held in Portland, Oregon on May 27-29, 2018. The goal of the ML4ALL Conference is to make applied **machine learning accessible to the average software developer** or enthusiast. Watch Live Online Free: http://livetv24.org/ncaa-march-madness/ The Broncs were paired against Oregon in the NIT, which released its 32-team field shortly after the NCAA Tournament selections were made. They’ll have to do it on short notice with the game scheduled to tip-off at 10 p.m. EST on Tuesday. The team was originally scheduled to leave for the airport at 3 a.m. on Monday morning to fly into Portland and then bus to Eugene, but that was upgraded to an afternoon charter flight shortly before 1 a.m. to help alleviate the travel burden. “To go across the country, it’s challenging,” Rider coach Kevin Baggett said late Sunday night after cramming in a film session on the Ducks. “I can’t remember the last time we’ve had to do this and play the next day. Usually, we’d give ourselves 48 hours to at least get somewhere, get acclimated and get our feet on the ground.” The Oregon women are slated to host first and second round NCAA Tournament games at Matthew Knight Arena and the preparation for those may have necessitated this game being played Tuesday instead of Wednesday. “They certainly didn’t do us any favors in terms of itinerary or game times,” Baggett said. “There was absolutely zero (heads up). I know (athletic director) Don Harnum had been trying to get some kind of idea and they told him we would know as soon as they did. There was no feeling whatsoever.” Rider (22-9) qualified for the NIT by way of winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season championship. The Broncs lost to Saint Peter’s in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. Oregon (22-12) finished sixth in the Pac-12 and advanced to the semifinals of the league tournament before falling to USC. The Ducks went all the way to the Final Four last season, a run which began with a victory over Rider’s MAAC rival Iona. Despite the rough travel, Baggett said his team is looking forward to the opportunity. Rider hasn’t played in the NIT since 1998. “We want to finish on a high note win or lose,” Baggett said. “It gives us an opportunity to learn how to compete in the postseason (and) understand we have to play with a sense of urgency no matter what time the game is or how far away the game is. When we get there, we got to be ready to go when we step on that court. “Oregon is a very good team. Every year, they are one of the better teams. It’s an opportunity for us to continue and we want to go out there and put our best foot forward.” Rider can match the program record for wins in a season with a victory. “It’s good for these guys to go and play another high-level team,” Baggett said. “It gives us a chance to be on a different stage, playing a Pac-12 team. ... Anytime you have an opportunity to prolong your season, one it’s a reward for having a good year and then secondly the experience can be nothing but positive for us in terms of getting this young group to grow up and learn what it takes to win in the postseason.” The NIT is experimenting with four new rule changes: • Four 10-minute quarters • A 16-foot lane • A 3-point line moved back 1-feet-8-inches so that it matches the one used in international play • Resetting the shot clock to 20 seconds on an offensive rebound “The one that is most different is on the offensive rebounds, but the way we play, hell, it might reset to 10 and we wouldn’t have a problem with that,” Baggett said.

description nil Ahoy database folk! Time for another meetup and more container chit chat. Yeah yeah, you, like me, have heard that you shouldn’t run databases in containers. Well without throwing all caution to the wind, I’m hoping to show you guys some container workflows with Postgres that I’ve been using lately. We’ll talk a bit about why you haven’t been running databases in containers, then walk through some development work flows with Postgres, and lastly look at options for deploying and running persistent databases in containers. ——— Hi, its me Grant Holly. I work at Iovation on the data science and analytics team wrangling our data into visualizations and machine learning models. I live in SE, play in bands, and am a learning machine.

create Calagator::Event 1250473404 Agile Engineering Course - Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) Roll back

description nil In an effort to raise the effectiveness of Scrum, the Scrum Alliance created the Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) program (AKA Agile Engineering course.) A Certified Scrum Developer is someone who has demonstrated through a combination of formal training and a technical skills assessment that he or she has a working understanding of Scrum principles and has learned specialized Agile engineering skills. This three-day class is aimed at helping software development professionals and teams be more effective when implementing Scrum and other Agile methodologies. You will learn how to create and maintain high quality systems through industry standard practices such as Test Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration (CI) and common software design patterns. This class was specifically designed to deliver the core Agile Development Practices Learning Objectives of the CSD program and should prepare the participant to successfully pass the Scrum Alliance CSD Candidate Assessment. This class focuses on automated testing, TDD (heavily covered in class), Continuous Integration, Design Concepts (Design Principles and Practices) and Extreme Programming (XP) practices. Class is hands-on, and you will participate in a project where you will build an actual feature using Agile practices and learn about the technical practices. You'll learn about how team members interact during sprints. Other topics covered include Technical Debt: Strategies & Techniques to help reduce technical debt. In order to earn the CSD certification, the Scrum Alliance requires at least five days of formal training followed by a CSD assessment/evaluation. This class fulfills 21 of the required 35 hours and can be paired with the Certified ScrumMaster class to complete the requirement.
