🍹 Join us for drinks and conversation with fellow web professionals!
Take a break from your screens and join the 'PDX Web & Design' community for a casual evening of drinks, conversation, and connections at one of Portland's favorite spots, The Hilt on Alberta.
This is a laid-back opportunity to:
- Meet other web designers and developers in Portland
- Share what you're working on (or take a night off from talking shop!)
- Discover potential collaborations or just make new friends
- Enjoy some of Portland's local flavor
About The Venue
The Hilt has some great drinks and food options plus an amazing patio perfect for networking in a relaxed atmosphere.
Who Should Come
- Everyone in the web industry is welcome! Whether you're:
- A seasoned developer or designer
- Just starting your web career
- A freelancer looking to connect
- Agency team members
- Remote workers craving some in-person interaction
No agenda, no presentations—just good conversation with like-minded professionals.
What to Expect
First time at a PDXWeb event? Don't worry! Our community is friendly and welcoming. Look for our group inside or on the patio (I'll update with specifics closer to the event). I'll make sure everyone gets introduced and feels included.
This casual gathering is perfect for building those personal connections that make the Portland web community special. Drop in when you can, stay as long as you'd like!
RSVP to help me anticipate attendance.
See you there! |

May starts on a Thursday so adding another April date. Back at Loyal Legion, we enjoyed the big table and the food. If some folks are up for it, we might stay for pub quiz.
On the program is mostly arguing about what constitutes data science and bemoaning cloud computing platforms. It's a good time and I'm looking forward to seeing both regulars and new faces. |

| description |

We are headed BACK to Deadstock coffee as part of Portland Startup Week 2025! If you are unfamiliar, this legendary coffeeshop in Portland is founded by Ian Williams, a 2023 James Beard Media Award winner. Ian is a former Nike shoe designer turned coffee roaster and has won a ton of awards and accolades for his work in the community. He is the unofficial mayor of Old Town and works tirelessly to give back to the community.
This event is open to all area founders. We can't wait to learn more about what you are working on and how we can be helpful.
As always, be there thinking about ways you can help your fellow founders. No selling, no solicitations, just good conversations!
Josh & Mark
About founder.coffee:
As a business owner, you are faced with many challenges. You're forced to make decisions every day that could make or break your business. founder.coffee is a way to network with other entrepreneurs to allow free-flowing information with the intent to collaborate and help each other. So often we're challenged and there's very little we can do to express our challenges with the people we work with or the people we care about. Think of founder.coffee as your own personal support group for business owners. We're all here to help! |

MAY Demolicious will be at the NEW westside UpStart Collective location!
::::::: Please use the form below to apply to pitch for 2025!:::::::::
Demolicious is back! This monthly pitch event brings together founders and the community to learn about what is being built here and around Portland.
How this all works: If you are a founder, you will apply to pitch here. Don't worry. "Apply" simply means you want to pitch, but there's no real competitive process to be accepted. We just want to see what you're working on before we put you in front of a room full of people.
You will be given 3 minutes to pitch at the event.
The audience will be given a QR code to vote for their favorite pitch. The one with the most votes will go home with the Demolicious Championship belt.
Teams Pitching:
TBA
Will you be the next founder to pitch!?! |

Apache DataFusion: A Fast, Extensible, Modular Analytic Query Engine in Rust
Roll back
| description |

In this talk, Mustafa Akur will take you behind the scenes of query execution with Apache DataFusion. You’ll explore how queries are parsed, optimized, and executed, and gain insight into the architectural principles that make DataFusion fast, extensible, and modular. The talk will delve into the goals of the Apache DataFusion project, the problems it aims to solve in the modern data ecosystem, and why Rust is a key part in the story.
Please plan to arrive between 6:30 and 7. Due to limitations of the
venue, we need to have someone stand outside and let people in, and
we'd like them to be able to attend, so the doors will be effectively
closed at 7:00, unless you're a PSU student. |

Our inaugural meeting brings together developers passionate about practical AI applications that solve real-world problems. Come ready to learn, share, and connect with fellow engineers.
Featured presentations
Data Security in the AI Era
Kellyn Pot'Vin-Gorman, Database and AI Advocate at Redgate
In today's era where data is the new nuclear power fueling AI, its protection has become a battleground. From high-profile breaches that shake industries to the ethical dilemmas posed by AI, ensuring data security is more critical—and complex—than ever. Kellyn explores real-world data breach stories that highlight vulnerabilities in the data lifecycle and the profound consequences of lapses in protection.
-- Kellyn Pot’Vin-Gorman is a Database and AI Advocate and Engineer with Redgate, with a long history in multi-platform technology. An Oracle ACE Director alumnus, she has been awarded over the years for her technical contributions and community volunteerism through many organizations, including a recognition as Woman in Tech of the Year for the state of Colorado.
GenAI Model Output Evaluation
Patrick McCuistion, Sr. Platform Engineer at Databricks
From traditional ML metrics to dynamic feedback loops, evaluation approaches have evolved to meet the unique demands of generative AI systems. Drawing from experience building and deploying a production-grade GenAI application that generates cloud infrastructure as code, Patrick will delve into how automatic feedback loops and iterative evaluation cycles can dramatically enhance the accuracy, functionality, and readability of GenAI outputs.

Techies' GameCon at NedSpace (board and video games)
Roll back
| description |
nil |
→ |
Come join us to network with fellow techies, and experience a vast array of games, ranging from party games to middleweight and heavyweight games! We will have over 30 board games available. NedSpace is a large space, featuring 10 private gaming rooms and 3 large common areas each equipped with 1 to 3 tables, accommodating 4 to 8 players per table.
The NedSpace and GameCon communities are very welcoming and a great place to make friends, for new and experienced gamers alike. We can help you find a group to play with when you arrive or let you explore! With the event running for 5+ hours - from 2 PM to 7 PM (or a little later!), you'll have time to break out some more crunchy games if you desire. It's also great for playing lots of shorter party games and everything in between.
BEFORE THE EVENT
Join NedSpace's active Discord, where you can chat about the next game night and learn more about NedSpace. You can also schedule games or arrange carpools on the game night channel. On Discord, please make your username your name or nickname, so other members know who you are - it really helps for finding people at the event!
You may want to bring:
- board games
- snacks to share
- weather protection (jacket, umbrella)
- water bottle, reusable plate, fork (or use our provided dishes)
NAVIGATING GAME NIGHT
Please make a name tag when you arrive, and feel free to grab food & drinks in NedSpace's kitchen. Folks tend to socialize for the first 30 minutes, and new games start every 20-30 minutes.
If you have any questions during the event (including needing help finding a game to play/join), you can ask in the game night channel on Discord or ask one of our hosts (Lana or Sean and possibly Faris, Jarod or Ripley)
FOOD INFO
We provide some snacks, drinks, and other food. We encourage you to bring your favorite foods to share as well. If you bring enough for 10-15 people, that's awesome!

Roll back
| description |

Thank you all for being patient while we rescheduled our event! We're excited to be back on for April 24th :-)
Join us for our 11th event, and our first Community Night, hosted by Crowd Supply! For this event, we’re inviting members to share a project, demo a prototype, or present an idea in a casual 3-5 minute slot. This is a great opportunity to showcase something you’ve been working on—whether it’s a hardware hack, a new product, or an experiment you’d like feedback on. The only requirement? It should be something you haven’t shared with the group before!
If you’re interested in sharing a project, reach out to the organizers with the following details to let us know what you’d like to share:
- Your name
- What you’d like to present
- Any relevant links (i.e. if your project has a website, crowdfunding page, etc)
- If you’ll be doing a live demo, presentation, or both
- The reason you’d like to present - sharing your idea, getting feedback, looking for collaborators, etc
Agenda
6:00-6:30 - Arrival, mingle, grab refreshments
6:30-7:30 - Scheduled Community Presentations with audience Q+A
7:30-8:00p - Overflow Community prototype/demo sharing, mix + mingle
Don't miss out on the chance to learn about amazing products being designed and made in Portland, while making new connections, sharing ideas, and getting inspired. See you there!
