Vision Planning for the Community-Minded – Collective Agency Downtown Vision planning for people who want to do something for a community. Do you not yet have a vision statement written out, or would you like to tweak or revise? And do you say things like, "I'm hoping someone will want to contribute to my project: it is for the public good"? Then this workshop is for you. Saturday, September 20th, 10am-12pm. Alex Linsker, Catherine Poole, and Russ Finkelstein will be the main facilitators and coaches of the workshop. The main questions about your vision: Where are you coming from? What phrasing describes the reason why you’re doing this? If related questions come up organically, we’ll explore. These questions are where groups like “Collective Agency” started. Whether a website, open source project, discussion group, nonprofit startup, or something else, the main focus of the people who show up will be for the benefit of a group or groups of people (the "community"). We’ll have fun and develop a vision planning community of our own. In 2 hours we will meet-and-greet (go around and say what we’re working on and what we’d like to happen with it), have a brief overview, then invest most of the time in one-on-one coaching in 15 minute sessions. Coaches will each bring a vision plan for something they’ve done. This event is free of charge. Coaching/mentoring/skill-sharing will be available here in the future with both free and paid options. Please RSVP. Plancast is best, so people can see you're coming. Email [email protected] or tweet @alexlinsker with any questions. |

PDXTech4Good: Thanks4Good Celebration – Idealist Let’s give Thanks4Good and celebrate local nonprofits and social change groups that do amazing — yet often unrecognized — work with technology. For this event, we have some amazing groups lined up to speak about their nonproft tech successes, their learning moments, and more. We hope these stories spark new ideas and conversations about how to do more with technology in your own organization. To get an idea of what's to come: You'll hear about how to mobilize a 1,000+ member volunteer group with CiviCRM, hear the pros and cons of choosing open source software for a nonprofit's IT infrastructure, and more. Come learn and celebrate the good work your nonprofit or social change organization does for our community! |

PDXTech4Good February Meetup – Idealist Consulting We are breathing life back into PDXTech4Good with our first official event of the year on evaluating online nonprofit payment processors for donations and purchases. Lila Pigott of Idealist Consulting will walk through what a payment processor is, what to consider when choosing a processor and the differences between standalone and integrated payment processors. Nonprofit staffers, techies, activists and community organizers are all invited to this event. Stop by for discussion, networking with the nonprofit tech crowd and refreshments! (Event is free.) About our speaker Lila Pigott joined the ranks of nonprofit technology consultants in 2012. After more than 15 years in nonprofit and mission-based organizations, she realized her true passion was helping the enthusiastic and unsupported or intimidated and reluctant overcome the organizational inertia often associated with adopting new technology. In her current role as a Solutions Analyst with Idealist Consulting, Lila works directly with nonprofit organizations and provides analysis, advice, and support to improve business processes and implement constituent relationship database solutions. Parking Parking in this area is free. It is limited to two hours, but only until 7:00 PM. We expect there will be ample parking by 6:00. What you'll get out of PDXTech4Good events:

Project Management for Nonprofits – The Cleaners at the Ace Hotel: 1022 SW Stark St, Portland, OR 97205 Nonprofit technology projects come in all types and sizes, and managing them is rarely anyones primary job. Success is often found not in simply getting “the thing” done, but in managing the process along the way. It’s easy to understand how nonprofit staff get sidled with project management in the course of their work: you manage the website for your organization, so it just makes sense that you are responsible for the upcoming website redesign project, right? Likewise for the CRM migration, email platform transition, and on, and on. Nervous about helming such a transition? That’s where this Lab comes in. Managing a technology-related project for your nonprofit can seem like a daunting task, whether you have experience in project management or not. Each project and organization presents its own unique set of challenges. Even if you feel like you have a good system in place, having a chance to connect with other’s approaches and perspectives can be an eye-opening experience. During this Lab, we will spend the day working through strategies, frameworks, and best practices to help guide you through the range of technology-related projects that you encounter and how to better manage them for success. Be prepared for exercises that will get you thinking about a particular project your organization is currently working on or getting ready to begin. Also come ready to share your experiences, tips, and lessons learned with the rest of the group as we work to learn as a community. At the NTEN Lab, you will learn how to: Oversee project budgets Develop project plans Reign in scope creep Manage internal communications & expectations Handle vendor relationships Monitor & evaluate the “success” of your project About the NTEN Lab The NTEN Lab is an in-person, collaborative space for shared learning, as well as an opportunity to connect with your peers to explore different ways to manage technology-related projects for your organization. This hands-on workshop is focused on bringing in your organization’s context in a way that allows you to learn from and support others in the nonprofit community. Details Time: 9:00am – 3:30pm (doors open at 8:30am) Location: Portland: The Cleaners at the Ace Hotel: 1022 SW Stark St, Portland, OR 97205 Meals: Snacks and lunch will be provided CFRE Credits: NTEN Labs and Webinars qualify for CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) credits.
