PDXOSGeo March Meetup – Ecotrust Building PDXOSGeo connects again this week, Wednesday March 25, 6:30p Hot Lips Pizza @ the Natural Capital Center 721 NW 9th Ave, Portland OR. Join us for some show and tell and good open geo discussion! Our featured speaker this month is long-time contributor Ryan Hodges, who will be sharing how sometimes, to deal with the big things, you have to start with the little things. “Should I open a window?” This talk will cover how this question led one person to confront and process issues like digital isolation, international tariffs, and climate change. Ryan will share about how he has chosen to collect and publish environmental data to open data sets using open source hardware and software, why these metrics are so important for measuring community health, and why citizen science may be our best hope to support data-driven decisions and rebuild trust in polarized times. |

Whether you've been with us from the start or you're just now hearing about UpStart Collective, this is the perfect moment to walk through the door, look around, and feel what we're building together. We'll start the morning off right with a ribbon-cutting with Portland Mayor, Keith Wilson. After that, we'll have programming from our partners at Plug and Play and the Komputational Kulture team. Swing by on the morning of April 8th, take in the views from the 5th floor, and help us make some noise in our new space. See you at Big Pink! 🩷 |

Portland Monthly BEAM Meet & Chat – Let’s get together for an informal BEAM PDX hangout: coffee, conversation, and light co-working. This is a low-key monthly meetup for folks working with Elixir, Erlang, Gleam, and other BEAM languages, aimed at reconnecting the local community and rebuilding momentum after a long quiet stretch. We'll holding this on the second Thursday of each month. There will be opportunities to: Ask questions about Elixir and other BEAM languages Share what you’ve been working on (or stuck on) Get help with programming or design problems Co-work: get things done with like-minded folks nearby Brainstorm ideas for future talk-based meetups and identify potential speakers Bring your laptop if you’d like. It's totally optional. New to BEAM languages, or just curious? You’re very welcome. Please RSVP so we know roughly how many people to expect. If your plans change, un-RSVP when you can. This meetup is also part of our transition away from Meetup to a new home for the group, where we’ll be organizing future events. |

Virtual Lunch & Learn: Formation and Licensing: What Founders Need to Know – Launching a life sciences company requires more than a breakthrough idea—it demands building the right corporate foundation from day one. In this Virtual Lunch & Learn session, aspiring founders will gain practical, actionable insight into two core pillars of early‑stage biotech company formation. First, we will cover why corporate formation matters and what founders need to get right early on: choosing the appropriate corporate structure, properly issuing founder equity, creating and maintaining a clean cap table, establishing a functional board of directors, and preparing for future financing. These elements are essential for attracting investors, protecting founder ownership, and avoiding preventable legal and operational pitfalls. Second, attendees will learn what to expect when in‑licensing foundational intellectual property from a university, academic medical center, or research institution—the critical step that often enables company formation in life sciences. We will demystify the tech transfer process, discuss typical economic and diligence terms, and highlight common negotiation and operational considerations so founders understand both the opportunities and obligations that come with licensing core IP. Whether you are preparing to launch your first venture or exploring commercial pathways for your science, this session will provide clarity, context, and confidence as you take the next steps on your entrepreneurial journey. |
