Roll back
| description |

How does your marketing department measure success? Which metrics are the most important indicators of if you're optimally serving your business? How were these KPIs selected? And are they still relevant to your business objectives?
If questions like these keep you up at night, the TAO Marketing Committee has wrangled up the top tech marketing minds in Portland to discuss how their departmental KPIs feed their organizational objectives. They'll recommend strategies on KPI selection and give in-the-field testimonials of their successes and failures. Questions are encouraged so come prepared!
Panel:
Chris Fisher, Senior Director of Marketing at Tripwire
Chris comes to the TAO panel through Tripwire, a cybersecurity company located in downtown Portland. He is an accomplished marketing leader who thinks creatively and analytically to drive growth. His focus on data-driven marketing that delivers measurable outcomes fuels online marketing strategies to build brands and maximize user experience. He comes to Tripwire after decades with Tektronix and PacifiCorp focused on demand generation, brand awareness, and content strategy.
Hillary Ervin, Director of Demand Generation at Navex Global
Hillary comes to the TAO panel through Navex Global, a compliance software leader in Lake Oswego. She is a successful thought leader in all aspects of demand generation. In the digital sector, she blends her experience in lead generation and demand generation to fuel corporate growth and brand awareness. Her decorated history at Tripwire resulted in rapid international market growth and she is an influential part of the Oregon marketing community.
Ken Anderson - VP of Marketing at Smarsh
Ken comes to the TAO panel through Smarsh, a Portland firm delivering cloud-based archiving solutions for the enterprise. He is responsible for the implementation and execution of strategies surrounding a wide range of areas, including product marketing, sales enablement, demand generation, analyst relations, corporate communications, and web + social media programs. His past with in professional sports will lend an extra dimension to this panel and we will all benefit from his tech marketing insight.
Kathy Stromberg - VP of Marketing at Webtrends
Kathy comes to the TAO panel via Webtrends, a Portland-based company offering web analytics, measurement, testing, and more. She is a passionate tech marketing executive with proven track record of success. Her career has been built on business growth, driving down costs, and improving critical processes to deliver competitive market positions. Whether at Webtrends, PECI, or HP, Kathy's passion about measurable marketing makes her a perfect fit for this panel.
Moderator:
Dan Cacacungan, Senior Director of Strategy and Planning at Babcock & Jenkins
As a strategic thinker for businesses of all sizes, Dan believes that the best brands are built on a common understanding and common cause shared by businesses and their customers. Wielding that belief, he has helped icons like NASDAQ, Intel, Sony and Nordstrom move from marketing to their audiences, to relating to them at every stage of the brand experience. His wealth and diversity of industry experience make him a perfect moderator for this TAO event.

<p>I'd like to get every one together and talk about what approaches everyone is using to layout in their apps and hear about your big wins and/or pain points with that approach. </p> <p>Do you use Autolayout? Do you set it up in code or Interface Builder? Maybe a mix of both? What about Size Classes? Maybe static numbers everywhere and big switch statements? Come share your thoughts and experiences and learn from others in round table style discussion on the topic this Wednesday night!</p> <p>Sorry for the late notice, I was surprised this week was already the 2nd Wednesday... I'll be trying for better lead time in the future! Hope to see you there!</p> |

Evolving Perspectives on Women in Tech - can we have this conversation in a new way?
Roll back
| description |
Join us for wine & cheese and a memorable, professionally facilitated, conversation about women in tech.
This will be a thought provoking conversation and all genders are encouraged to attend.
Some questions to consider are:
• Are you open to new perspectives?
• Interested in learning from others?
• What could you learn if you spent a day in another gender’s shoes?
• What do the genders have to say about each other?
• What’s the edgy, authentic conversation we’d like to have, but normally don’t?
We would love to have your voice in this perspective-enhancing conversation.
Cost: $20. We do take walk-ins but prefer that you register online: http://www.meetup.com/Navigate/events/227512135/ |

Portland's testing user group for Ruby developers! Conversation and peer mentoring starting at 6, presentations at 7. For more information, follow @TestRubyPDX on Twitter or join the #testrubypdx Slack channel (under PDX.rb).
This month, get your match on with a double feature on RSpec's custom matchers! Stephen Prater will show us how to get our custom matchers working and then Robb Shecter will take it to the cloud in a presentation on testing web app configurations.
### Stephen Prater - Custom Matchers for Fun, Profit, and World Domination
If you're only using RSpec's built-in matchers, you're missing out on an opportunity to create more robust and expressive specs. Using custom matchers, you can take full advantage of the framework's capabilities.
### Robb Shecter - RSpec in the Cloud: Using custom RSpec matchers to manage web app configurations
Custom matchers are one of the most powerful descriptive features of the RSpec API. In this talk, Robb Shecter will show how to use them in a novel context: Testing live web application configurations. |

Snowdrift.coop is a non-profit community platform building a new sustainable patronage system for public goods (particularly free/libre/open works). We welcome volunteers in all areas including non-technical general design, organizing, and co-op structure issues. On the technical side, the site uses the Yesod web framework written in Haskell alongside basic HTML/CSS/JavaScript.
We have a strong Portland foundation with one of the co-founders, the lead developer, and several active volunteers and supporters in the area. |

Roll back
| description |

Global finance is an opaque landscape for individual investors. All too often, our investments can end up tied to socially and environmentally harmful industries, without our knowledge. How can we empower ourselves to act in this sphere, and direct our money toward profitable, progressive businesses?
If you long to operate with integrity in all parts of your life but feel underequipped or bewildered by the idea of aligning your investments with your values, this workshop is a chance to learn essential portfolio management skills and link your financial resources with local resilience.
In this safe, supportive and constructive workshop you will:
Learn the terminology you need to speak confidently with your financial advisors
Learn basic portfolio management tools so you can analyze your own financial profile and needs
Clarify your personal values and connect them with your investments
Determine what portion of your portfolio is prudent to allocate to local or direct investing
Explore a list of potential investments based in OR and practice what you learned by assessing their risk, return and alignment with your values
Connect with like-minded individuals on a similar quest!
