PDX Node – Walmart Labs Join us for the first meeting of the Portland Node users group. We'll have food, code, and a lovely presentation about Terraformer from Esri by Jerry Sievert. What is Terraformer? A library for converting geographic data between different mapping formats and GeoJSON.". But it's more than that, it's a Geo-Toolkit that works in node as well as in the browser via AMD or CommonJS, providing tools for reading and writing from multiple geo formats, converting to and from web mercator, an RTree index, and some simple polygon tools. You can check it out at https://github.com/geoloqi/Terraformer We'll also get cracking on what direction we'd like to take the group! |

International NodeBots Day 2013--PDX – Cloudability This is not a hackathon. There will be no prizes other than the satisfaction of making something awesome! There will be very little in the way of talks. We're going to get together, collaborate and hack. This is more NodeConf SummerCamp than NodeConf. Sharing. Enjoying each other's company. Learning and exploring. And JavaScript. Lots of JavaScript. We want to show that node is an all-purpose, fun tool by showing its potential with hardware. How? By bringing together those interested in node and hardware hacking, and giving them an open space to hack, collaborate, learn, and share their results with others. What Cool Stuff can I do? Checkout the Johnny-Five examples for some examples of cool stuff to do with Node and Arduino. For more info on NodeBots and preparing yourself for the ensuing awesomeness: http://nodebots.io/ Please REGISTER at https://tito.io/pdxnode/nodebotsday |

Joyent and PDXNode present: NODE.JS ON THE ROAD – Urban Airship Inc Please register for this special event at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/nodejs-on-the-road-portland-tickets-10630635517 This month PDXNode will be hosting a special presentation night with a visit from our Joyent friends from the south: "The profile of users developing and deploying Node.js in production is always changing. As new people come to Node, or as the needs of veterans change, it's important for that information to find its way back to the project. Similarly, it's important for those who are deploying Node in production to bring their wisdom to those just starting out. To that end, Joyent is sponsoring Node.js on the Road, a roadshow aimed at keeping the community connected with the project and production users of Node. We'll be bringing speakers from large and small companies alike to share how they're using Node in production. To talk about the where's, why's, and how's of Node fitting and scaling to their companies' needs. Also, they'll be discussing the ways they coordinate with the Node project and the broader community. But this isn't a one way road, we want to hear from you too. We want to know about your uses of Node, where Node is being successful for you, and where your pain points are. The Node project is nothing without this feedback, it's vital to make sure Node is heading in the direction its users need. It's going to be a fun trip. I can't wait to share with you all the exciting things going on with Node, and to get more people involved. See you soon!" |

June PADNUG - Let's Talk About the Internet of Things – Intel Hawthorn Farms 3 Auditorium (HF3) Campus In this course Microsoft's Jeremy Foster gives an introduction to the world of IoT - the Internet of Things. We’ll get definitions for various IoT terms and some bold predictions of the future where the internet is not so much a collection of devices as it is a collection of sensors and gadgets attached to people, vehicles, houses, and a lot more. And we’ll also get the basics of how to write software for these devices using the familiar and rather high level JavaScript language on Node.js. This means that instead of writing difficult code in languages such as C or Wiring, modern IoT hackers can write easy code and have access to the vast number of node modules that already exist. As an example project, you’ll meet Tweet Monkey and see what little it takes to put together your own maker project.

Node PDX 2016 through The Bossanova Ballroom Portland is an awesome place to be a JavaScript hacker. JavaScript is everywhere. It’s in your browser, on your server, in your phone, on the wire between your devices, and possibly in your thermostat, beer keg, or karaoke system... and it’s only growing from there. We’ve gone from roll-over effects to robots, codeable toys and automated quad-copter drones, all speaking a common language of JSON, often sharing JavaScript code at their core. Portland is home to some of the most talented developers in the world. We’re not kidding. Our quirky and distinctive town breeds creativity in all things, from the culinary arts and funky brews we’re so famous for to artisanally crafted Python and minimalist-chic of JavaScript micro-libraries. PDX is bursting with artistic craftsmanship unlike anywhere else on the planet. NodePDX creates a time and a place for this community to share information, discuss ideas, and work together to improve the art and science of hacking. |

PDXNode – Hack Night! 💻 – CTRL-H Welcome to the PDXNode Hack Night! What is a PDXNode Hack Night? PDXNode Hack Nights are your opportunity to enjoy a low-pressure JavaScript-centric environment where you shouldn't feel like you're supposed to do anything. First and foremost–just come and enjoy yourself. The night is yours: hang, hack, learn, or do whatever you’re interested in doing. 🙌 Depending on the size and interests of our attending group, we have various paths the night could go, and may or may not attempt some of the following: Map Ctrl-H into Hackerspace Regions The hackerspace will be mapped into 'regions', and you can feel free to gravitate towards whichever one suits your interest! • A place for beginners who want to get going with node for the first time. • A place for people who want to work on their own projects (eg. projects you want to do outside of work, but need to find the time). • A place for people to just hang out and connect. • A place for people to work on projects in groups! 'Unconference'-style Team Hacks For team-hackers, we'll have a board up and sticky-notes available available at the beginning of the night. Anyone can feel free to write the name and/or description of something they'd like to hack on with other people–and others who're interested can feel free to go to that region and join in! End of Night Show and Tell There will be a list available to write your name, or team's name down on to give a quick show and tell of your projects at the end of the night. We're pumped to see what you've been working on! Some general stuff to remember: Help is available! There will be seasoned Nodesters ready and available to help anyone with questions or advice in any of the hack-zones: beginners, solo, and group projects. Feel free to reach out and ask at any time throughout the evening. Do what you want to do Above all, we hope for this to be an easy-going event for people to do what they want to do with the time we have. Make the time awesome, it's yours. 😎 Code of Conduct PDXNode continues to abide by its Code of Conduct, and we ask everyone to commit to keeping to it in order for all of us to have a safe, fun, and amazing time. Wahoo! See you then! 🎉🎉 💻 🎉🎉 |
