    Drawing Follow Along

In this Meetup, we'll perform an art follow along. This will help remove the intimidation giving you the confidence you can draw. In this session, we'll cover basics such as drawing with shapes, gestures, lights, and shadows. We'll be drawing instead of painting, so the only thing you'll need is paper and a pencil. I'll have extra if you need them.

    Families welcome.

    Making Art Everyday

http://makingarteveryday.com/ is a great way to inspire you to draw or create art every day.

Lisa Bardot has shared a daily prompt similar to Inktober to give you ideas about what to create each day. If you plan to create for just 10 minutes a day it may start an inspiring journey that could lead to an entire life of creating. Making Art Every Day also has an online community on Instagram #makingarteveryday to share your work with friends.

In this Meetup, we'll plan to bring this to life in person. Bring your art supplies, sketchpads, or tablets and we'll create together. I'll have extra supplies if you need some.

If you like to get inspiration from others, we'll see you soon! Families welcome.

    Art of Questioning

"Judge a person by their questions rather than their answers" - Voltaire

Do you want to solve problems quickly or be unafraid to talk to anyone?

I'm going to experiment with my social skills by interviewing at least twenty strangers in public. My goal is to ask the most interesting questions and if I'm successful, it will lead to even more interesting questions. This is a great way to learn about a person or topic very quickly.

I'm planning to record my interviews and share my techniques by recapping the results during the Meetup. If anyone would like to volunteer, we can practice the "Art of Questioning".

If you're a student "Questioning is the ability to organize your thinking around what we don't know" - The Right Question Institute. If you're a teacher, questions can guide a student to a better answer. Either way, we can do both.

Do you enjoy sharing beautiful stories with family and friends on social media?

With the insta360 go, you can take it anywhere and easily record your favorite moments. With the FlashCut feature, the AI will automatically curate your content and create an action-packed story you can share without spending the time to edit hours of footage. For example, it will create clips when it detects a smile or every time you grab your favorite latte.

In this Meetup, I'll provide some examples of travel vlogs, Broll footage, and share ideas on what you can do with AI capabilities. This is a great camera to supplement your full-frame or phone camera.

Hyper-Visual Thinkers in a Linear World

Visual-Spatial Processing is one of the most misunderstood learning styles in today’s educational landscape. At one time, Visual Spatial Learning was defined as a deficiency in brain function – a disability. We now know, however, that Visual Spatial Learning is not a result of a genetic flaw – or brain, eye, or ear malfunction – it is a difference in thinking and learning style that can cause confusion when dealing with symbols or understanding of social norms. In fact, some of our culture’s most talented people are Visual-Spatial Learners – as is true for many of the pioneers in technology, physics, and art.

Many individuals who exhibit learning disability symptoms and anxiety in social settings have a natural and innate ability to shift or alter their mental and physical perceptions. They can use this perceptual ability to facilitate creativity, improve physical performance, enhance thinking, or resolve confusions. However, when they use this same ability to resolve confusions with language or math symbols, or in interpreting social clues, it causes unwanted perceptual distortions and noticeable disorientation that affect vision, hearing, balance, energy levels, focus, motor skill, time sense and/or speech.

Individuals who process and use this thinking style can be shown how to control their perceptions so disorientation no longer interferes with their ability to learn and socialize successfully. They minimize their challenges while maximizing their brilliance.

    ALL WELCOME

Time Series Prediction of SNOTEL Data

Sunil Rao will be presenting his past research on SNOTEL data using the time series prediction.

Drought is a serious problem in much of the U.S., with the worst conditions across the southern and western parts of the nation. Much of irrigation and recreation facilities depend on proper forecasting of streamflow. The water supply for irrigation largely comes from rivers and creeks, whose streamflow originates from the springtime melting of winter snow. A water supply forecast is a prediction of streamflow volume that will flow past a point on a stream during a specified season, typically in the spring and summer. One of the primary sources for the data is through NRCS SNOTEL( Snow Telemetry) data (available to the public as part of tax dollars at work). In this demo, we showcase one such tool (Timeseries ARIMAX model) to forecast Streamflow volume for Deschutes River Basin, OR and later compare with actual data to see how it performed.

Topic Modeling Using Latent Dirichlet Allocation
    python

Philip Robinson will be presenting research whilst at NASA on Topic Modeling.

Topic modeling is the task of taking a collection of objects and establishing a strategy for describing these objects by common categories found across the collection. This is usually an unsupervised activity applied to a document collection and doesn't require topics to be human interpret-able. My talk introduces Latent Dirichlet Allocation, as a topic modeling strategy for a collection of topics, and discusses an implemented prototype system I developed for NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab. For this project, I addressed the "Matchmaker's Problem" in the context of identifying the best employee to solve a mission-critical engineering anomaly in late-stage missions. I'll share a demo of installing, setting up a filesystem, managing a firewall, run a hypervisor, and share the basic admin commands. If we have time we can include a discussion on Linux containers.

If you would like to join the discussion check us out on Zoom https://zoom.us/j/7891236789. If you want to listen, we're also on Facebook Live https://www.facebook.com/KnowledgeMavens/.

Do you want to learn and share your passion in a supportive community? Knowledge Mavens is an ethos of sharing, creativity, and inspiration.

Our Meetup provides an opportunity to "Show and Tell" followed by a feedback and Q&A. You'll have the opportunity to share with our channels such as Meetup, GitHub, YouTube, and Facebook to connect with more passionate people.

The second half of our session we'll collaborate on new topics. The winner wins an award for the most interesting topic and the opportunity to share in an upcoming session.

3D Printed Jack O Lantern with a Digital Display

Do you have a creative idea for a Halloween costume? Or perhaps you want to show your awesome Jack-o'-lantern. Or what if you have brilliant ideas for decorations? We'd love to see them all!

I'll bring a 3d printed pumpkin and insert a screen for a fun display. I'll share how I customized it with fusion 360 to fit my display.

This project would work great if you have a raspberry pi or arduino with a screen. You can even connect motion and sound for an extra spooky experience.
