description nil → The New Communicators is a three-day series of events exploring the ways we communicate with each other. It is an open forum for discussion, education and inspiration, free of charge. * * * In 2007 Alex Linsker walked up to strangers in New York City’s Union Square Park and said, “I’ll give you $5 if in five minutes or less we can’t figure out what to do about an upcoming situation you aren’t looking forward to.” It didn’t cost him too much to develop a set of questions. As a radio interviewer summarized, “Exciting Strengths that you find in one area of your life can then be extrapolated to all areas of life, and we can use them in really any project or goal we’ve created.” In this workshop, we’ll apply strengths to what’s important to you at work or in life. We will walk through exercises, practice asking the questions and grow the way we think. Prior to joining True, Puneet was the VP of Product Management at Geodesic Information Systems, which specializes in mobile and Internet communication products selling to consumers, OEMs, carriers, and online properties. There he helped grow the company from $20M to over $80M in revenue in two years and learned valuable lessons about building a successful team in times of rapid growth. As part of his experience with Geodesic, Puneet lived and worked in India for seven months before settling back in their West Coast offices. Prior to Geodesic, Puneet spent four years at BEA Systems in a number of roles. Puneet ran product marketing for BEA’s JRockit product, traveled the world evangelizing BEA’s platform to CIOs and developers, and also conceived, initiated, and ran product management and marketing for BEA’s RFID initiative. Puneet began his career at an early stage integration software startup, Crossworlds Software, which was later sold to IBM. He then spent some time in the investment world in corporate finance and M&A in J.P. Morgan’s tech practice where he worked on several technology IPOs and acquisitions. Puneet also spent two years in Venture Capital at the Mayfield Fund helping to invest in early stage software deals. Puneet joined during the height of the bubble and endured during the downturn as well. It was during this latter period when he helped to lead Mayfield’s investment in Trigo, an early enterprise software company, which was later sold to IBM. At True, Puneet focuses on infrastructure and software applications specifically around cloud computing, open source, SaaS, and mobile. He currently sits on the board of LoopFuse.

We invite experienced Flex application developers to bring their resumes and meet Thetus Flex developers. Building and deploying complex Flex applications is a challenge. How do you ensure repeatable builds that are correct on multiple platforms and in multiple IDEs? Maven is one tool that has been long used in the Java community to provide application lifecycle (build, test, deploy) functionality that is standard across projects. By utilizing a common filesystem layout and a predefined set of goals or targets (the Project Object Model, POM), you can easily move between projects without having to learn the intricacies of each project's build and deployment setup. Modern IDEs such as Eclipse and IDEA have support for loading Maven POM files and configuring projects automatically. Recent additions to Maven (flex-mojos) allow this same power to be applied to Flex as well. I'll show practical examples of how Maven works in a mixed Java/Flex project that deploys to the Amazon cloud. Christopher Mason is a Flex developer at Thetus corporation.
