create Calagator::Event 1250474114 Beers with Engineers - Portland Roll back

description nil No agenda, no pitch, no bullshit. As always, come geek out, network, and have a good time. Booze and food is on somebodies company card (to a limit). If group size demands it reservations will be made, otherwise check the bar area or a hostess for the group. Starting in Seattle it's been a lot of fun over the years. The group has defined some "regulars" but we continue to host a diversity of interesting folks from all over the industry in all types of engineering roles. Locations will be dynamic throughout 2016 so keep an eye on that when registering.

description nil This group is for all educators interested in learning about the K-12 Computer Science Framework Core Concepts and Core Practices and how to integrate computer science into any content area. Coding and computing will become a game-changing skill for our students. By learning to integrate it seamlessly into our core content - rather than adding computer science as another subject to teach, we are preparing students for the future and providing unparalleled motivation and challenge to our curriculum. For our September gathering, you will learn more about the K-12 Computer Science Framework Core Concepts by participating in a Digital Breakout - an activity you can modify for any content or grade level! All materials are hosted on our Google Classroom - bring your laptop to participate in the activity and gain access to additional resources and lessons. Let us help you get started integrating and aligning computer science today! This is the perfect place to begin building your computer science Professional Learning Network. Please RSVP at https://www.meetup.com/CS-For-Teachers/events/253626905/ . Thank you to Alchemy Code Lab for supporting K-12 computer science education!

update Calagator::Event 1250474083 AgilePDX: Virtual Pub Lunch on Hiring - What qualities do you hire for? Roll back

description Ever struggled to get to a downtown or West side location to join a lunch discussion? Then a virtual "pub lunch" may be the answer! This agile lunch discussion is a collaborate effort between Seattle and Portland agile minds, and we're hoping it won't stop there. The event is held on a zoom conference line. It is modeled after the AgilePDX Downtown Pub Lunch, which is an open round table with discussion topics sourced from the participants. Towards the end of each lunch discussion we will ask for topic suggestions and vote which one to pick for our next meeting. And we'll close out the discussion with a quick review feedback - so we can learn what works and what doesn't. For this kick-off meeting, we will borrow the AgilePDX Downtown Pub Lunch topic about Hiring: What qualities do you hire for? Technical skills, learning attitude, team fit, emotional intelligence,... and to what extent does your search focus on building team diversity? These questions are only the beginning. Join us in this new experiment and connect with the greater community of the Pacific Northwest. Visit our meetup page to RSVP and get the zoom conferencing information: https://www.meetup.com/AgilePDX-User-Group-Portland-Metro/events/252496023/ Ever struggled to get to a downtown or West side location to join a lunch discussion? update Calagator::Event 1250457540 Portland Ruby Brigade monthly meeting: CouchDB, iPhone + Cucumber Roll back

description <i>The Portland Ruby Brigade is a user group for Ruby programmers in the Portland, Oregon, area. Join other developers for presentations and discussions about Ruby and its uses. VENUE: This meeting’s space is kindly provided by Robert Half Technology at their 2nd Floor Conference Room. Enter the KOIN Tower from SW Columbia between 2nd and 3rd Avenue, take the back elevators to the 2nd floor, and then follow the pdxruby signs.</i> PRESENTATIONS 1. "Ruby Persistence with CouchDB", Jesse Hallett There are several libraries out there that provide high level interfaces between Ruby and CouchDB. I will give an overview of some of them, discuss the pros and cons of each, and show how these libraries make working with CouchDB easier. Along the way I will talk about the particular types of problems that CouchDB is good at solving. Jesse Hallett has been designing web applications with Ruby for nearly three years now. He has worked on administrative / record-keeping applications, CMS and Ecommerce platforms, and various other pieces of software. He spends as much time as possible with his fellow geeks in organizations like the Portland Ruby Brigade and the Portland JavaScript Admirers. Jesse has developed a strong interest in the evolving state-of-the-art of client-side JavaScript technology and next generation databases. Jesse is currently developing JavaScript technology at Jive Software. 2. "Testing iPhone apps with Ruby and Cucumber", Ian Dees This talk begins with a survey of the landscape of iPhone UI testing. In particular, we’ll discuss the groundbreaking work done by Matt Gallagher in stimulating and spidering the iPhone UI with an XPath test script. That will be a natural jumping-off point to explain why a full-fledged “GUI driver” for iPhone apps has been long in coming. We’ll look at different ways to prod at application code, and discuss the tradeoffs. Finally, I’ll introduce a simple library of Ruby glue code to connect Cucumber test scripts to the iPhone. The technique will be very basic, but just powerful enough to test a simple iPhone app. Ian Dees saw his first Timex Sinclair 1000 over 20 years ago, and was instantly hooked. Since then, he’s debugged embedded assembly code using an oscilloscope, written desktop apps in C++, and joyfully employed scripting languages to make testing less painful. Ian currently writes GUI code for handheld instruments as a Software Engineer at Tektronix. Ian is the author of the book Scripted GUI Testing With Ruby: http://pragprog.com/titles/idgtr <i>The Portland Ruby Brigade is a user group for Ruby programmers in the Portland, Oregon, area. update Calagator::Event 1250473634 SANS Community Event Roll back

description Join SANS Instructors Brian Ventura and Derek Hill for an evening of conversation regarding Secure configurations - Built-in Security Enhancements and the benefit of the CISSP certification from a hiring manager perspective. TOPICS 1. In the information security news, we regularly hear about the latest vulnerabilities with recommendations to scramble and patch immediately. This is an important aspect of our industry, however there are other security considerations. Are there configurations we can set now in our systems and software that will protect us? Let's explore secure configurations and see what we find. 2. The Hiring Manager is looking at your resume – why does CISSP matter? While the CISSP is not the only thing we look at, it is a great starting point. What knowledge does the CISSP provide and how does one prepare for the exam? Who is Brian Ventura: Brian Ventura is an Information Security Architect by day and SANS instructor by night. Brian volunteers with the Portland ISSA and OWASP chapters, focusing on educational opportunities. For SANS, he regularly teaches CyberDefense courses like the CIS Controls, Risk Management, and Security Essentials. Brian has a Security Essentials (SEC401) course in Portland, June 18-23. Come join in the learning experience! Who is Derek Hill? Derek Hill has over 25 years of experience in IT and Information Security. He currently manages an Application Security Team, an Infrastructure Security Team (Blue Team) and a Data Privacy Engineering team at HP Inc. in Vancouver, WA. His teams are responsible for ensuring that HP’s internally developed applications are secure as well as the AWS infrastructure that is hosting these applications. Prior to his current position, Derek held IT management and technical roles at both large and small companies. In each role, he has focused on delivering excellent services, uptime and security for all the projects/staff he managed. Derek holds an MBA from Willamette University and an undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems from Oregon State University. He has various security credentials including a CISSP and multiple GIAC certifications. update Calagator::Event 1250473425 Nike Tech Talks Roll back

description Join Microsoft senior cloud developer advocate Paige Bailey at the next Nike Tech Talks on March 22! Paige will give a talk titled, Predicting Clothing Styles with Deep Transfer Learning. Food and beverages will be served and there will be time to network before and after the talk. RSVP: https://niketechtalk-mar2018.splashthat.com/ ABSTRACT: In this talk, we'll use image recognition to take an existing deep learning model and adapt it to a specialized domain (namely: guessing whether articles of clothing are preppy, sporty, punk, etc.). Instead of using a more intensive data classifier, like a Residual Network, we'll use deep transfer learning to overcome a data scarcity problem and build on top of an existing model. Once the transfer learning model has been trained, we'll pack it up into a dockerized container (specifying inputs and outputs, as well as a score.py file), and then call it as a web service. We will also discuss a #DataOps process for refreshing the model as trends change over time. Join Microsoft senior cloud developer advocate Paige Bailey at the next Nike Tech Talks on March 22! create Calagator::Event 1250474105 Digital Forensics Roll back

description nil News today is thick with stories of government agencies trying to find digital evidence of wrongdoing: interrogating mobile phones for evidence, tracing emails to find a stalker or looking at a killer’s search history to discover motives. Digital forensic analysis now plays a pivotal role in both corporate and legal investigations. However, few outside of the industry understand the intricacies involved in a forensic undertaking — the capabilities and limitations of the forensics investigative process, the role of the digital forensic investigator or the extent of the laws governing these actions. In this session, Tiberius Hefflin, Founder of Go Boldly, will delve into the basics of digital forensics. Attendees will learn what digital forensics draws from forensic science, how the law informs what a forensic investigator is ethically able to do, the many uses of digital forensics, evidence collection methods, anti-forensics methods, what the incident response process should look like and how they can maintain crime scene integrity until investigators can carry out an assessment. While the subject is dense and could certainly be expanded, this introduction is aimed at those new to digital forensics with the goal of providing a solid foundational understanding which can be built upon with self directed learning. Trigger Warning: Violent Crime, Child Abuse, Murder While the talk will not cover these topics in great detail, Tiberius Hefflin will be discussing real crimes that have been solved due to digital forensics. Join us for a great presentation and discussion! We'll have snacks, and there will be an opportunity for networking afterwards. We hope to see you there! Schedule: 6:00 PM: Doors 6:10 PM: Introductions and news 6:15 PM: Presentation 7:15 PM: Q&A 7:30 PM: Wrap up and networking Speaker bio: Tibbs graduated from the University of the West of Scotland with a degree in computer security. create Calagator::Event 1250474102 Serverless Architecture Meetup Roll back

description nil This month we will have two talks: "What the Heck is OAuth?" The OAuth 2.0 authorization framework has become the industry standard in providing secure access to web APIs. OAuth allows users to grant external applications access to their data, such as profile data, photos, and email, without compromising security. However, OAuth can be intimidating when first starting out. In this talk, Aaron Parecki will break down the various OAuth workflows and provide a simplified overview of the framework, highlighting a few typical use cases for web apps, mobile apps and browserless devices. Aaron Parecki is a developer advocate at Okta, and maintains oauth.net. He's the co-founder of IndieWebCamp, a yearly unconference focusing on data ownership and online identity, and is the editor of the W3C Webmention and Micropub specifications. Alanna Risse will show us how she built a working 'bananaphone' with google cloud voice. Alanna Risse is a artist, web developer, and full stack mentor at Thinkful. Her piece “Bananaphone” was included in a group show at PNCA this summer. This interactive piece features a Google AIY Voice/Rasperry Pi Zero encased in an oversized paper maché bananaphone. create Calagator::Event 1250474100 AgilePDX Westside Cafe: Integrating Dev & QA Roll back

description nil You're a QA professional and you've been trying for months to get involved at the start of a story, but developers push you away. They see you as the traffic cop waiting to catch them in an error. You're a developer and the QA folks always find something simple right before the end of the sprint. Why didn't they tell you they were going to test _that_? Join us at AgilePDX westside to discuss how to involve QA earlier in the process. How do you convince the team that QA is more than testing and ads value from the very start. How do you convince QA to step into a larger role? That they can abandon the formality they were trained in and jump right in.
