Season 4, episode 1
Get up early and work on your side projects with some like-minded geeks!
TechCoffee is part running club, part knitting bee, and part hackathon. It's hard to work on all of your amazing ideas after a long workday, so instead we get up early. And we get together, so we have the reinforcement of other people up early, too. A couple hours a week can make a big difference.
So bring your laptops and your work ethic to PDX TechCoffee. Or, if you can't be there in person, join us on IRC at #techcoffee on freenode. One commit a week is all we ask.

Process Orienated Communication --- New Commuication Technology for Technical People
Roll back
description |
Let's experiment new technology for relationship!
WELCOME! Welcome to world of connections! Even if you are not network expert CONNECTION is EVERYTHING.
You are so smart to read this. This is one of my answer to âIs there easier and cooler way to learn relationships?â.
I had so many troubles about relationships. Personal romantic, sexual connections and work place. Human being science developed so much. There must be new technology and practice to make things easier even cool way for me.
I as Tree huger computer system engineer fascinated by transpersonal psychology and Process Oriented Ecology, Non Violent Communication and Deep Democracy. And I would like to mesh up and introduce for cool technical people.
And as you know, RELATIONSIP IS EVERYTHING!
This new technology to inspire you about relationships and human connections is well designed for people who are very functioning in technical area and interested in improving relationship, communication, human connection skills and art.

Rather than posting content on many third-party silos of data, we should all begin owning our own data that we're creating. Publish short status updates on your own domain, and syndicate to Twitter. Publish photos on your own domain, syndicate to Flickr, etc, etc.
This is the basis of the "Indie Web" movement. We'll get together for a day and a half to talk about what has been done in the field, and where still needs to be done. There will be workshops and breakout sessions the second day.
For some reading on the subject, browse Tantek's documentation of his projects like Whistle and Falcon, two projects he created as an effort to begin owning his own published content.
Hosted by Tantek Ãelik, Aaron Parecki and Amber Case. |

PDX Weekly Hackathon - ---
Roll back
description |
Come do strange things with computers amongst others whilst drinking fine Portland beer. Look for the row of geeks with computers in the back of the main room.
All programming languages welcome. Come work on your own projects, work on others participants' projects, get advice, have fun, etc.
You're encouraged to bring a computer, but can team up with others that brought one too.
Afterwards, the group descends on the 12th and Hawthorne foodcart pod for additional nourishment.
Also, many people meet up at the pub during the same time as the hackathon to play boardgames they bring which you're welcomed to play. |

Digital Journalism PDX: Journalism and the Future of Mobile with Jason Grigsby
Roll back
description |
|
→ |
There's an aphorism that's making the rounds these days in journalism circles that goes something like this: News organizations are treating mobile like they did print and the Web 10 years ago. In other words, they're acting like mobile - with all its different facets - is just the Web on a smaller screen.
That may be an oversimplification, but it zeros in on a major problem: What the heck are we doing when it comes to smartphones, apps, different mobile operating systems, feature phones, tablets, and on and on? At the next Digital Journalism Social Hour, Portland's Jason Grigsby is going to help us try and get a handle on that question. |

Lucky Labrador Beer Hall (1945 NW Quimby) is located in an old Freightliner Trucking warehouse in the final frontier of inner Northwest Portland. With it's wide open feel and the pub resident five ton crane hovering above the tables, the Lab makes for a very casual place to hang out for a pint. Serving bento, sandwiches, salads, and other pub fare, our pub is a great place to chill out by yourself or congregate with a group of friends, family, or associates.
