update Calagator::Event 1250460694 Value-first in the nick of time: Agile Methods and Lean Program Managent Roll back

description Value-first in the nick of time: how agile methods and lean program management averted crisis to deliver the goods on a $20 million business process change. Part experience report, part expedition, this presentation will take you inside an Agile adoption nested within a project turnaround. From diagnosis through prescription, convalescence, and recovery to eventual triumph and the acceptance of a new status quo, you will hear how a century-old organization transformed its application delivery capability in the face of a crisis, growing a project team from six to 60 developers inside two months and accelerating from one release in six months to several releases every sprint. This is a must-see for anyone who has ever struggled against organizational inertia or dreamed of rapidly scaling Agile from the team level to the enterprise level to the sound of cheering business managers. Our speaker is Adam Light, Ph.D. Adam is a Management Consultant and Principal at SoTech Advisors (www.sotechadvisors.com) where he plans and executes successful projects and builds work systems that deliver on client goals. Adam has more than fifteen years’ experience designing and developing business applications from shrink-wrapped software to real-time information services in domains from natural resources management to supply chain optimization. As a planning and program management leader, Adam has worked with as few as three and as many as twenty teams, using Agile methods and critical chain techniques to turn around failing projects, revive ailing organizations, and redesign application delivery at the enterprise scale. His broad perspective and deep experience enable him to rapidly deliver return on investment from large projects. This event is free and is at our new location, Puppet Labs. It begins at 6:30 pm with pizza, sponsored by PNSQC (Many thanks to both Puppet Labs and PNSQC for supporting agile in Portland). The program starts at 7:00 pm. After the program you're invited to join us for a no-host gathering at a nearby brewpub for further discussion. update Calagator::Event 1250460691 OEN Workshop: Valuing Your Startup Company Roll back

description As an early stage entrepreneur looking for the first round of funding, one of the most daunting tasks may be determining the valuation of your company. In this workshop, we will cover the basics of valuing a seed or launch stage company, and answer some questions, such as: * Who sets the valuation - the company or the investor? * What does pre-money and post-money valuation mean? How do I calculate it? * How do I value my company if we don’t yet have revenues? * How do investors determine the valuation? * How have valuations changed in the economic downturn? We'll explain the terminology, demystify the math and explain some of the ways that valuation is set during the funding process. There will be plenty of time for Q&A, so come armed with your questions and be ready to participate in a lively discussion about valuing early stage companies. $30 for OEN Members; $70 for non-members. Speaker: Naomi Derner Naomi Derner, CFA is the founder and managing director of Derner Valuation Consulting, where she values securities and intangible assets for companies at all stages of development, from startups to large public companies. create Calagator::Event 1250460691 OEN Workshop: Valuing Your Startup Company Roll back

description nil As an early stage entrepreneur looking for the first round of funding, one of the most daunting tasks may be determining the valuation of your company. Prior to 2008, she was a Vice President in the San Francisco office of Houlihan Lokey Howard and Zukin, where she performed and managed fairness opinions and the valuations of public and private securities as well as intangible assets. Ms. Derner has valuation experience across a wide variety of industries, and possesses specific expertise in technology and life sciences companies at all stages of development. Prior to joining Houlihan Lokey, Ms. Derner was a senior analyst in the financial valuation services group at Arthur Andersen LLP, where she conducted valuations of public and private securities, closely held companies and intangible assets. Prior to joining Arthur Andersen, Ms. Derner held positions in the equity research department of NationsBanc Montgomery Securities covering financial institutions and in the financial analysis unit at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Ms. Derner holds the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst and is a candidate member of the American Society of Appraisers. She holds a bachelor’s degree in managerial economics from Carnegie Mellon University and a master’s degree in economics from the University of California Santa Barbara. She is a member of the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network, Software Association of Oregon, and Silicon Valley Fair Value Forum. To register, visit: http://www.oen.org/events.aspx?id=216

update Calagator::Event 1250460686 Janrain Engage for Android 1.0 workshop Roll back

description Hello Portland Android Developers! Janrain is getting ready to release version 1.0 of the brand new Engage for Android library which includes an abstract and easy to implement user authentication component, as well as an extremely simple to use social sharing UI. In anticipation of our upcoming release, we’re hosting a fast track introduction workshop for interested Android application developers. Who might be interested: Are you an Android app developer? Are you interested in authenticating your users via Google, Facebook and other identity providers? Perhaps you are interested in enabling social sharing - including tweets and wall posts - directly from your app? Save time and effort, and leverage the benefits of our abstract implementation - the Engage for Android library. What our product does: The Janrain Engage for Android library provides a system to authenticate Android application users with their existing identity accounts - e.g. Google, Facebook, and Twitter. The library also provides a system to enable your users to share information from your application via their social networking accounts (LinkedIn, Yahoo, Twitter, MySpace and Facebook.) What our event is: Janrain is hosting a coding workshop at our downtown office. If you are interested in adding our library to your Android application, we invite you to come! (Please bring your laptop.) At this workshop we’ll walk through everything an Android application developer needs to implement authentication and social sharing with the Engage for Android library, including: IDE integration, Android project configuration, build system troubleshooting, Engage application creation and configuration, authentication system design (including Engage token URLs!), and social sharing invocation. When our event is: Thursday, June 9 2011, starting 5pm. Where our event is: The Janrain Office @ 519 SW 3rd Ave, Suite 600, Portland, OR 97204. Please click RSVP to [email protected], so we can save you a spot and make sure there is enough food and beer. We are looking forward to a fun filled evening with the Android developer community. So, please join us for an evening of coding, beer and pizza! TL;DR: Do you want to authenticate your users or do social sharing ezmode? -> Come to our workshop. Hello Portland Android Developers! description nil A recent study of Executive Coaching in a Fortune 500 firm by MetrixGlobal reported a 529% return on investment and significant intangible benefits to the business. In addition, managing organizational knowledge creation and sharing effectively has become an important source of competitive advantage for technology firms. Peer mentoring is becoming increasingly common and results are suggesting that a dedicated peer-mentoring group has increased perceived levels of peer mentor knowledge and skills, as well as knowledge creation and sharing. This meeting combines both approaches and is highly customized for business leaders within the Portland technology community, who often struggle with the challenges associated with creating and operating a sustainable and successful enterprise of any size. This event will also provide insights from our professional coaches, as well as through each other, on the following topics: Techniques for growing your leadership team’s skills, so they can manage more through delegation and coaching One other topic to be voted on by the attendees
