update Calagator::Event 1250459377 Portland Java User Group: Android 3.0 Roll back

description This month's topic: Android 3.0 Google unveiled Android 3.0 in February 2011. This release provides a new UI and other features that are suited for mobile tablet devices. In this presentation, we'll discuss Android's new platform API's and highlight changes in the developer SDK. ---------- Speaker: Sean Sullivan Sean is a software engineer specializing in web services development, mobile applications, and supply chain management systems. Sean is an Apache Software Foundation committer and has contributed to various open source projects, including the OAuth Java library. ---------- PJUG meetings start with some time to eat and socialize (pizza and beverages are provided), followed by the featured speaker, then Q&A, discussion, sometimes a drawing to give away swag. :) Though we like knowing how many people to expect, you don't *have* to RSVP, on Upcoming or otherwise. Go ahead and just show up! Many people also go for a drink and further discussion following the meeting, at a location determined ad hoc (lately, Trees restaurant in the same building). http://twitter.com/pjug http://pjug.org/ (join our mailing list, linked from the website!) create Calagator::Event 1250460004 The Independent Developer Workshop Roll back

description nil I'm putting on a workshop for freelance software developers. The workshop is non-technical -- instead of languages and frameworks, we're focusing on helping freelancers find more opportunities, write better proposals, improve client relationships, and dispelling the FUD of going out on one's own. We'll have a couple of good panel discussions, and I'll be sticking around late into the evening to work with people one-on-one. Food and drinks will be provided (including free beer), and you'll also receive over $300 in discounts on services for freelancers. Interested? Head over to http://i26r.com/ to register, or learn more about what we're doing.

description nil Season 5, episode 10 Get up early and work on your side projects with some like-minded geeks! TechCoffee is part running club, part knitting bee, and part hackathon. It's hard to work on all of your amazing ideas after a long workday, so instead we get up early. And we get together, so we have the reinforcement of other people up early, too. A couple hours a week can make a big difference. So bring your laptops and your work ethic to PDX TechCoffee. Or, if you can't be there in person, join us on IRC at #techcoffee on freenode. update Calagator::Event 1250459377 Portland Java User Group: Android 3.0 Roll back

description This month's topic: Android 3.0 Google unveiled Android 3.0 in February 2011. This release provides a new UI and other features that are suited for mobile tablet devices. In this presentation, we'll discuss Android's new platform API's and highlight changes in the developer SDK. Many people also go for a drink and further discussion following the meeting, at a location determined ad hoc (lately, Trees restaurant in the same building). http://twitter.com/pjug http://pjug.org/ (join our mailing list, linked from the website!) update Calagator::Event 1250459985 Server-Side Basics I Roll back

description PDX Web & Design Whether we are straight client-side graphic designers, or web developers with little design experience, the one thing we all have in common (besides an interest in making the web a better place) is that we work on the web a lot. Because of this, it's important to have at least a basic understanding of what goes on in the server. How does a message get from a URL you type in your browser, to a machine on another continent, and then back? How does PHP actually generate a website? What do "DNS" or "TCP/IP" actually mean? This is the first (in possibly other) deeper dive into what makes the internet work. If you are a pure-designer, and never plan to code, these basics are good to know. If you think you already know all this, come and share your knowledge! Presented by Keith Swallow UPDATE: Due to issues beyond our control, the meetup has to meet the Tuesday after originally scheduled. Same Bat location, just not the same Bat time. Portland, OR 97204 - USA Tuesday, March 15 at 6:30 PM Photo: http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/3/5/8/event_16545912.jpeg Details: http://www.meetup.com/pdxweb/events/16543178/ PDX Web & Design Whether we are straight client-side graphic designers, or web developers with little design experience, the one thing we all have in common (besides an interest in making the web a better place) is that we work on the web a lot.
