create Calagator::Event 1250463671 DAMA Day 2013 - Data Virtualization in Business Intelligence Systems Roll back

description nil Studies show clearly that the way decisions are made in organizations is changing. The biggest change is that, Managers have to react faster. The effect is that our BI systems have to be more flexible, more agile. In addition, new forms of Reporting and Analytics are being requested by the user community, such as Operational Analytics, 360° Reporting, Exploratory Analysis, Big Data Analytics, Self-Service BI, and semi-structured and unstructured data analytics. All these new requirements demand that BI systems are developed in a more agile way. One of the technologies making this possible is Data Virtualization. These sessions focus on Data virtualization when deployed in Business Intelligence systems. The advantages of Data virtualization are explained; products are compared; application areas are discussed; and the relationship with related topics, such as MDM, Data Governance, and SOA are discussed. About DAMA Portland The Portland Metro Chapter of the Data Administration Management Association is a not-for-profit, vendor independent, professional association dedicated to advancing the concepts and practices of enterprise information and data resource management. Our primary purpose is to promote the understanding, development and practice of managing data, information and knowledge resources as key enterprise assets. Portland Metro Chapter members, guests and speakers meet a minimum of six times a year to widen their knowledge base in topics relevant to information and data resource management.

description nil The monthly meeting for Unity3D developers, enthusiasts and those curious about the framework. Come learn a bit about Unity3D, share what you're working on, see what others are working on, or jump into a few simple tutorials and start building something fun with us. UnityPDX meets every third Thursday. It's easy to remember because "third" sounds a bit like "Thursday." Unity is a game engine used primarily to build 3D mobile games, but it's useful for 2D games as well. The engine exports to all sorts of platforms, including iOS, Android and Flash for desktops.

description
Until now, nonparametric regression has been a heuristic process - fitting a surface without statistically justifiable confidence measures. With the discovery of the gamma test, there is now a mean squared error estimator that is applicable to the nonparametric case. This allows true statistical reasoning for functional relationships, even when nothing is known about the algebraic form of the relationship. The gamma test is available in R. It will revolutionize the discovery of causal relationships in data.

Wayne Haythorn recently retired from a 30 year career in software design, during which he worked for organizations including NASA, the European Space Agency, National Weather Service, NOAA, Linsoft (Sweden), and Modern Terminals (Hong Kong). description nil Presentation on "Peopleware: Productive Projects and Teams" "The major problems of our work are not so much technological as sociological in nature". - Peopleware Building good software products is a tricky business and though we often focus technical risks, it's the social issues that frequently derail projects. Peopleware discusses a broad swath of the challenges that arise in our industry: office environments, staffing, overtime, team chemistry, software processes, etc. And it does so with a sense of humor and anecdotes while still treating the subject seriously with references to case studies and research that underlie much of the material. Peopleware easily stands out as my favorite software book, a great read for anyone in the industry and a must read for anyone in management.

update Calagator::Event 1250463650 IxDA & AIGA: Digital Dialogues Roll back

description Digital Dialogues is a quarterly event series developed by AIGA Portland in partnership with IxDA and sponsored by FILTER Talent and ISITE Design. Each event provides a sneak peek into a different collaborative case study. Location: ISITE Design Community Room 2030 NW Pettygrove Street Portland, OR 97209 Register: http://digitaldialogues-thebrigade.eventbrite.com Price to attend | Free for AIGA members, $10 for non-members Food / Beer / Wine will be provided. Join the team from The Brigade as they give us a glimpse into their process of designing, developing and managing the Spotify On Tour project. Spotify asked the Portland design studio to create a memorable and socially engaging experience that introduced concertgoers and their Facebook friends to the vast Spotify music library. In response, The Brigade transformed a tour bus into a giant, crowd-controlled boombox. Using their iPhones, connected users could play any song in the Spotify library, creating a massive, party-curated playlist blasting from the bus (which also doubled as a bar). They built a unique experience while also handling everything from the Boombox app and backend architecture, to social media engagement via a microsite and Facebook app, Instagram, and Twitter. Anything can and will happen on tour. What do you do when cellular reception is disrupted, the satellite is blocked and somebody spilled a beer on the pep wave router? Find our how The Brigade designed a system to withstand the rigors of the road.
