Monthly presentation night! Talks to be announced soon.
We'll also be starting a couple of monthly segments and would LOVE your participation and submissions--
1. "Stump the Chump", a 15-minute round of anything-goes, ask any question that's been irking you about Node.js. Those williing can stand up to help answer the question in an open, friendly learning environment.
2. "Modules You Should Know", a different module featured each month. We'd love for people to take a stab at this lightning-style talk. Learn a module, share it with us, help close that discovery gap that is growing in Node.js!
It will be a nice variety of topics and level of talks. If anyone is interested, we could also take discussions to post-talk drinks nearby. Maybe even hack a little. |

Join us at the 12th Beaver BarCamp hosted by the OSU Open Source Lab. Beaver BarCamp is an informal conference where everyone is encouraged to participate and the sessions are not predetermined. It provides a collaborative environment that promotes the sharing of ideas and projects and is a fun, casual event filled with discussions, demos and interaction with attendees. One of the best aspects of BarCamp is that attendees both provide the sessions and choose the schedule, allowing for greater flexibility and freedom.
What kind of sessions happen at Beaver BarCamp? All kinds--from the recreational to the technical. While many are tech oriented, we encourage any DIY, educational or interactive session. Most sessions are 60 minutes, but 30 minute sessions are also available. |

Topics can range from technical to recreational. Share your love for programming or teach people how to whistle (already been done!). All you need to do is show up and sign up to host a session. Or you can just attend! We'll have refreshments throughout the day and a limited amount of t-shirts. |

Roll back
| description |
Who: YOU and all members of the local active Agile community (i.e., anyone who's doing any form of Agile - or wishes they could)
What: We invite you to join us in looking at future opportunities for AgilePDX.
When: On our regular meeting date, 3rd Wednesday, August 21
Why: Because "self-organizing" "collaborative" "responding to change"
How: Alicia Lanier (our facilitator) will help us stay on track as we take a couple of hours to look at:
- our draft Purpose and how it influences our decisions
- where we are now and how we got here (3+ meetings at different days, times of day, and geographic locations!)
- what that tells us about where we'd like to be
- what next steps will help us get there
Not one of our usual meetings, but more of an AgilePDX-wide retrospective and continuous improvement event. Please join us in service to the local Agile community. AgilePDX can be the best user group EVER!

Crowd Supply's Director of Projects (and ADX member) Josh Lifton will share tips and tricks from the trenches of preparing, launching, and successfully funding your product.
This webinar will give you an overview of how you can use Crowd
Supply to launch a successful product campaign, from planning and production, to marketing and fulfillment.
Presenter: Josh Lifton, Crowd Supply
Josh received his doctorate from the MIT Media Lab and holds a
BA in physics and mathematics from Swarthmore College, which is to say he's devoted a significant amount of his time learning how to make things that blink. As head of Crowd Supply's project efforts, he is helping others launch successful crowdfunding projects. Prior to Crowd Supply, Josh worked in a variety of technology settings, from instrumenting thousands of audience members with custom wearable computers for a Cirque du Soleil performance to, most recently, serving as head of engineering at Puppet Labs. |

LibrePDX: Kickoff Event
Roll back
| description |
We're happy to announce that there's a new user group in Portland that's dedicated to increasing visibility, promotion and interconnectedness of the local open-source movement and participants thereof. This group is not limited to software and encourages participation of anyone from musicians to government planners. Please read the mission statement on our website: http://librepdx.org/
Our kickoff event is to bring together people who are interested in taking an active role within the group, particularly people who are stoked about our mission and want to help network with others in the community. If you cannot physically attend, we encourage you to participate via our Etherpad for part or all of the event:
https://notes.typo3.org/p/LibrePDX_Website
2-5 pm: Software/website-focused hacking and resource collection
5-7 pm: Main event, brainstorming, next steps
7-* pm: Beer and article writing for publication @ Tugboat (711 SW Ankeny St) ...what could possibly go wrong
If you have any questions regarding venue or mission, please contact Daniel @ 503-453-7535 or [email protected].
If you didn't read the website...
LibrePDX is a community with the common belief that great things are achieved through cooperation, accessibility and a strong supporting foundation. We believe that the open-source movement embodies these characteristics and helps strengthen some of the most positive qualities of a functioning society.
LibrePDX is a flat, non-legal do-ocracy focused around increasing visibility and connectedness of all things relating to the open-source model of development and community building. If you have a idea, share it! If you can do something, do it! If someone has your idea, join them! You can't fail if you volunteer, you can only learn. |

A Tech Meetup with Senator Jeff Merkley
Roll back
| description |
nil |
→ |
Senator Jeff Merkley, a champion of startups and small businesses in Oregon, will be up for re-election in 2014. We have a chance to ensure his success through your efforts this fall.
As many of you know, Senator Merkley wrote the bipartisan CROWDFUND Act to open up online capital-raising for small businesses. It became law last year and the SEC is currently working on the rules. CROWDFUND is going to revolutionize fundraising for early stage startups in markets without large venture capital ecosystems.
And Senator Merkley has been a leader on increasing student access to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) courses and teachers – a vital ingredient to building Oregon's tech workforce in future generations.
Please join us for an afternoon reception with Senator Jeff Merkley and learn more about his support of our startups.
Suggested Contribution Levels:
Event Host $500 - Includes entry for two to host’s reception at 1:30 p.m.
Supporter $250 - Includes entry for one adult

Have we mentioned lately how very appreciative we are of our volunteers at Open Source Bridge? You've officially made 2013 the best year of the conference! So, we'd like to extend our thanks again, and show our gratitude by throwing a party.
Details:
Volunteer Appreciation Party
Saturday, August 24, 2013
1:30 pm with roller skating starting at 3:30 pm!
Mt. Scott Park for picnic potluck and skating at the adjacent Mt. Scott Community Center.
We'll be providing some party trays from Nicholas Restaurant, and beverages, complete with an alcohol permit.
If you can bring salad, snack foods, or desserts, we'd love you even more.
[Additional: If you can't make it out on Saturday, but are available Friday, August 23, Stumptown Syndicate (the nonprofit that oversees Open Source Bridge) is having a <a href="http://calagator.org/events/1250464657">Happy Hour</a> gathering. It will be a regular monthly event.
Mention vegetarian food policy?
