create Calagator::Event 1250471100 OpenStack PDX November Roll back

description nil This month we're going to switch things up just a bit; it will be our last meetup of 2016 so let make it a little more casual and get together at Pints! This Thursday will be all about the OpenStack Summit in Barcelona. Clark Boylan, Christopher Aedo (and an additional surprise guest or two) will lead a discussion of all the fun from Barcelona. We will talk about both the marketing side of the summit as well as the dev side, including the conversations (and controversy?) around the new "Project Team Gatherings" coming next year. If you missed out on Barcelona, please join us for a fun update and conversation!

update Calagator::Event 1250471094 Beer of Trust Key-Signing Roll back

description "Beer of Trust" is a key signing party with beer! ## What's a key-signing party? A key-signing party is a get-together with PGP users for the purpose of meeting other PGP users and signing each other's keys. This helps to extend the "web of trust" to a great degree. Also, it sometimes serves as a forum to discuss strong cryptography and related issues. ## What if I don't have a key yet? If you don't have a PGP key yet, this is a good chance to get your feet wet. If you bring a computer, you can generate a test key at the event and experiment with sending messages to others there. It can be helpful to have someone present to walk you through the process the first time. It is recommended that you only generate a test key at the event, and later generate your real key in private. See below for links to some helpful resources for securely generating a key. ## What do I need for this party? Required Items: * A picture ID or some other way for people to match you to your identity * Your key ID, key type, hex fingerprint, and key size. You can print out slips of paper to hand out your key info if you'd like. * A pen/pencil or whatever you'd like to write with * A computer is not required, and it is not recommended to use your computer to sign keys at the event At the event, you'll meet others, confirm their key ID in person, and swap key IDs with them. Later when you get home, you can download the full keys and sign them, then upload the signature to the keyserver or email it to them directly. Some useful links for generating and backing up your key can be found [here](http://pin13.net/BoT/2016-11-21/). "Beer of Trust" is a key signing party with beer! ## What's a key-signing party? create Calagator::Event 1250471098 UX NIGHT SCHOOL: Envisioning and Acting - A Community Workshop Roll back

description nil What changes after the 2016 elections? How do folks from the design and tech communities come together to fight the good fight? How do we learn how to help? In this workshop, we’ll work with both ideas and actions, by joining with community partners to envision, plan, scope and scale a User Experience project. We’ll begin by discussing problems and needs with our stakeholders, using the Envisioning Cards toolkit from the Value Sensitive Design Lab at UW. We’ll then explore User Experience methods and tactics using IDEO’s method cards. Lastly, we’ll plan deliverables, discuss resourcing, and create a budget for our project. Workshop is limited to 10 participants. We'll have plenty of time for discussion and exploration. Participants will receive a copy of the UX Night School Field Notebook and our UX Project Planning and Methods Guides to use in their own work. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

description RSVP here - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-happy-hour-networking-event-tickets-28871226616 Join us for happy hour at Free Geek! Did you know November 29th is Giving Tuesday?! There's not better way to spend it than with your two favorite non-profits! While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 with the goal of sharing important announcements and showcasing women in our community who are doing great things! Introduction to Free Geek, including what they do and how you can support them! Learn how Entrepreneur Spotlight, Kristen Gallagher, took her love of educating others and turned it into a business supporting technology companies to use learning to reach their goals. What resulted was her company Edify. A brief talk by Jenny Stoffel, WordPress Developer and Consultant, about the anatomy of a 'typical' freelance day. PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering: educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. create Calagator::Event 1250471088 Creating the Future of AI: Not Just for Silicon Valley Pt 2. Roll back

description nil Forge is pleased to announce the second set of presenters in its monthly series on AI Morality, scheduled for November 15, from 6:30-8:00 pm: Steve Taylor from The College of Robotics and Eric Brickenstein an attorney at Hagland-Kelley LLP. Steve will talk about where he sees the future of robotics going and how robots will interact with AI in the very near future. We are already seeing examples of robots using machine learning to learn from each other in order to better accomplish factory jobs, and as we move closer to AI, robots and machines will become increasingly autonomous from human input or control. Eric will frame in broad strokes the fields of legal inquiry that may emerge as AI begins to have the ability to ‘think’ and ‘reason.’ Eric will address issues of privacy and how data can be collected; discuss briefly the potential for any legal framework to govern the development of future AI; and broach the topic of machine rights and a theoretical framework for considering when rights might attach to certain types of machines. Our last discussion posed 4 questions: How is AI and AI morality defined? What are the dangers and opportunities associated with AI? What about our relationship to technology will always be true? And what about our relationship to technology will likely change as AI develops? This session we will consider 4 new questions in small group/break out format. Tickets are limited to 50 participants and sold out in a week for our 1st session. Beer will be provided.

Are you interested in an affinity group for women like you? Have you noticed that it can be difficult to find women in tech who are still in there swinging? PDXWIT is partnering with Jean Richardson to create a group for women like you. In defiance of the infographics that show we disappear after age 50, we will be coming together at Apex Clearing to build and strengthen connections and face forward to the future we want. Hymn Space is the startup that opens coffee shops after hours on a subscription basis so we (the creative community) can connect, work, and mellow out in a comfortable, yet focused environment. It's like a cozy ground floor co-working space that is open when being creatively fit is most challenging, and puts us in an environment where we can actively and passively lean on each other for the extra push forward... with free coffee and wine to seal the deal. Stop by and enjoy a night or two on us. HYMN Space @ Commissary Cafe 915 NW 19TH Wednesdays & Thursdays 6pm-11pm @hymnspace hymnspace.com

create Calagator::Event 1250471085 I want to work for _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (this month is RazorFish) Roll back

description nil For Novembers 'I want to work for_______' meetup we are excited to have with us Brynn Dirksen - Associate Art Director at Razorfish. She specializes in UX design and we look forward to hearing her thoughts and her journey in the digital marketing space. An excerpt of her journey in her own words - "While I started my career in the design industry working on print projects, after joining Razorfish as an Art Director, I dove deep into the world of digital design. As a digital agency Razorfish has a large UX department, and from the get-go I was interested in this "experience-based” take on design. Razorfish encourages employees to experiment with other disciplines, and when I started exploring, UX opportunities immediately opened up for me. I had always enjoyed visual design but once experience design was thrown into the mix, the design problems I had once found interesting became truly fascinating. Jumping on the chance to expand my skill set lead me from a job I enjoyed, to one that I’m truly passionate about."
