create Calagator::Event 1250473064 Cynefin & Complexity Foundations Roll back

description nil In today’s increasingly volatile and uncertain world, there is a need for new ways of making sense of current situations and managing in new and rapidly shifting contexts. Our past practices and approaches are failing us and what had worked reliably during more stable times in the past is unfortunately proving inadequate for the dynamic present. This course introduces concepts which challenge the deeply rooted thinking patterns that have been ingrained by years of conventional thinking. Take a dive into complexity theory, and the practical implications for operating in a world of inherent uncertainty. Learn about the Cynefin framework – and how to apply it in organisations; how to make better decisions, dependent on the situation; as well as a range of practical methods that you can apply directly in organisations. What it’s about: Complexity has become a buzzword for the world we work within - this course provides you with the foundational tools to understand what it means to act and manage in complexity. Cynefin and Complexity Foundations forms the core component of Cognitive Edge's training offerings. It contributes the basic scaffolds and key components of your sense-making toolkit for working in complex environments. Who it is for: This course designed for people who work in constantly-evolving, dynamic situations, dealing daily with uncertainty and risk, and looking for a enhanced compass for building organisations that are both resilient and innovative. Whether you work in an organisation navigating intractable problems, or are a consultant looking to include complexity principles into your practice - or if you are simply complexity-curious - this Foundations class is for you. What we will cover: This has been designed as a 2-day session - a combination of deep immersion into the fundamentals of working in complexity, and with the Cynefin framework. This will be substantiated by lots of hands-on methods-based activities, and group-based discussions. The session will begin with an introduction to complexity, and the natural and human science that sit behind the naturalising tradition in sense-making. Discover and manage the evolutionary potential of the present by increasing situational awareness of the types of systems that we sit within, and how to modulate within complex systems. The Cynefin framework has subtleties and nuances which are not easily accessible to the casual reader. Building on the basics outlined in the Harvard Business Review article, this 2-day session will help you dig deeper into the uses of the framework, accompanied by facilitated workshop activities and tools. create Calagator::Event 1250473057 Turn Your Idea Into Something Real With App Lab Roll back

description nil At Alchemy Code Lab, we strive to cultivate more creativity, opportunity, and impact for everyone in our community through code. That’s why we’re excited to announce App Lab, a brand new consultancy program that combines the fresh talent of Alchemy grads with the seasoned skill of Alchemy mentors to bring the web & mobile application ideas of local entrepreneurs, businesses, and nonprofits to life! Do you have a vision for an app or a technology component of your business you’ve been unable to realize? The reality is that paying full price for an MVP or internal app has traditionally be cost-prohibitive -- and as a result, many ideas simply never get built. Come learn about App Lab’s cost-effective approach to small-scale app development (think beauty school haircut or culinary institute dining, but for apps) and see if our consultancy is a good fit! QUESTIONS? Email us: [email protected]

update Calagator::Event 1250472913 PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) January Happy Hour Networking Event Roll back

description ***Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdxwit-january-happy-hour-networking-event-tickets-40888648047] is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event *** Join us for happy hour at SurveyMonkey on January 23rd. People often talk about creating a work culture that allows people to “bring their best self to work.” To start the conversation, we are asking “what is an important personal value you bring to work?” with an aim to allow us to explore our best selves. While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community. Introduction to SurveyMonkey, including what they do and what job opportunities are available. Amy King, Senior Product Manager at Digimarc [https://www.digimarc.com/], will talk about picking the right approach to design for emerging vs. established technologies. Madonnalisa Chan, Freelance Information Architect - Taxonomist, will talk about making values-based decisions in your career. During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking: - We are celebrating our 6th anniversary (yes 6 years!) with a photo booth courtesy of The Snapbar [https://thesnapbar.com/] - An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director. - Table Topics to help break the ice. - A section for job seekers and those hiring, to ensure people get connected. Agenda: 4:30 p.m. - Doors open/Networking 5:30 p.m. - Introductions, Announcements + Lightning Speakers 6:30 p.m. - : Event ends Event FAQ: Q: Is the space ADA accessible? A: Yes Q: What is the parking situation? A: Street parking and parking garage nearby (no free parking) Q: Is there secured bike parking? A: Yes, bring your bike to the event and you can park it in the office Q: Should I consider using public transportation? A: Yes Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Our events are inclusive.
