Portland Augmented Reality Advocates - Getting together for real
Lucky Labrador Beer Hall

I want to get people together and start building some momentum. We are a small group right now so I want to see if we can just crowd around the end of a pub table, shoot some darts, drink some beer and eat some Pizza and talk about what we see in AR and where we each want to take it.

Lucky Lab in the Pearl is a great wide open spot we can meet and if the group grows enough they have a meeting room we can rent out.

So please spread the word and bring along anyone who you know into AR, Design, App programming or just wants a beer in the earlymidweek.

Cheers

PDMA Learning and Networking Event -- Enabling Waves: How To See High Growth Opportunities
OTBC (Oregon Technology Business Center)

“I see no more than you, but I have trained myself to notice what I see.” – Sherlock Holmes

The Oregon Chapter of the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA) invites you to its October Learning and Networking Event to explore the future.

What do VMWare, Illumina, and SolarWinds all have in common with Google, Apple, and Facebook? They are all high growth companies that saw into the future and took advantage of huge enabling waves of change in the marketplace when they were just ripples.

Please join us for an interactive discussion to examine not only the top enabling waves that our speakers have identified, but also offer you a framework and tools to not just see the future, but to create the future with confidence.

Some of the waves we’ll examine that are sure to be major elements of future product and services include:

BIG DATA

Haptics

Augmented reality

Social networking

Sensing

And more…

We’ll then offer specific tools you can use to develop a strategy and plan for what do DO about the waves.

This session will be interactive in nature. In addition to presenting researched results, we’ll draw on the insights and opinions of the audience during a Q&A session to add greater depth and different perspectives to the findings.

Add Augmented Reality to your design portfolio in 2019
52 Limited

Description

Worldwide, there are now over a billion mobile devices with augmented reality capabilities. Augmented reality (AR) apps let people see and interact with digital content in their physical reality. Apple, Facebook, and Snapchat have pioneered early techniques and technologies to insert digital images (and interactions) on top of real-world objects, but the possibilities of these channels remain relatively unexplored.

We’re at an inflection point for user experience and interaction design. Whether or not we’ve planned for it, we’re all 3D designers now. It’s the perfect time to extend your design skills into this new reality.

Jessica Outlaw of The Extended Mind, in partnership with Torch AR is offering a half-day workshop for designers and design producers. In this hands-on training, you will develop an understanding of immersive tech, interaction design in 3D space, and existing AR use cases. During the workshop, you’ll concept, plan, and build your own AR experience prototype.

*No augmented reality experience or coding is needed. Space is limited. Details:

Welcome 8:30 AM Workshop 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Part 1: The state of the immersive technology today. You will demo mobile AR technology and learn about the range of use cases.

Part 2: Techniques for AR interaction design. We will compare and contrast 2D & 3D design patterns.

Part 3: Designing with Mobile AR. You will design and develop an interactive AR experience prototype for your portfolio.

Living alone and extroverted: A struggle for sanity — but still easier than being a founder
Online

Everyone needs hobbies. And if you follow PIE mentor Nick Lambert on Instagram, you'll see that the pandemic has been a good time for him to reboot a few of them: music, cooking, ridiculous short films… we all deal with this stuff differently.

Being a former startup founder, startup accelerator manager, and professional musician — and currently Customer Success Manager at local VR/AR/XR startup The Wild — you've got a wide range of topics at our disposal.

So please register to attend and start adding — and upvoting — the questions we'll be asking.
