Portland Retro Gaming Expo Sept 27-29
    through
    Oregon Convention Center

About Us What is the Portland Retro Gaming Expo? Retro Gaming Expo, Inc. is a Portland, Oregon-based 501(c)4 non-profit cooperative organization dedicated to creating awareness of, and appreciation for classic video and arcade games through the presentation of events and conventions that celebrate the historic contribution video games have made and continue to make in popular culture.

Our Goals PRGE seeks to continually improve the quality and depth of our events. It is through events like our annual Expo that we will meet our goals:

Educate Our primary mission is to educate our visitors on the impact that video games have made on our society. Our main methods for doing this are through hands-on interaction with classic games and by hosting speaking engagemments from important figures from video game history.

Preserve The first consumer video games were created over 40 years ago. As years pass and new systems replaced the old, it does not always occur to game manufacturers and owners to preserve examples of their games for the future. PRGE believes that, by demonstrating original game hardware and software in working condition, we provide a clearer example of video game culture through the years and a better experience for our attendees.

Inspire Video games bring together multiple disciplines including mathematics, physics, art, music and drama. It is our belief that by highlighting video games of the past, we will inspire the game creators of the future in all of these areas.

What is a classic video game? Our loose definition of a classic video game is any from a system released prior to the most recent generation by any game manufacturer. By this definition the Nintendo Wii, XBox 360 and Playstation 3 have moved into the classic realm (replaced by the Wii U, XBoxOne and Playstation 4 respectively). In regard to full-size arcade cabinet games we have, somewhat arbitrarily, chosen games older than 10 years as eligible for classic status.

Who is PRGE? PRGE is operated by an all-volunteer board of rabid video game fans. In addition to our board, PRGE is supported by a small army of awesome volunteers, without whom PRGE would not happen.

How old is PRGE? Our first event was held in 2006.

Diversity and Inclusiveness Policy PRGE believes that diversity and inclusion are key drivers of our goal of educating the public about the history of video games. We welcome attendees regardless of age, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origins, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, mental abilities or familial status. Learn more about our committment to inclusiveness by reading our Conduct and Harassment Policy.

    Community Leadership Summit 2018
    through
    Oregon Convention Center

    From the site:

The Community Leadership Summit 2018 brings together community leaders, organizers and managers and the projects and organizations that are interested in growing and empowering a strong community. The event pulls together the leading minds in community management, relations and online collaboration to discuss, debate and continue to refine the art of building an effective and capable community.

At the heart of Community Leadership Summit 2018 is an open unconference-style event in which everyone who attends is welcome to lead and contribute sessions on any topic that is relevant. These sessions are very much discussion sessions: the participants can interact directly, offer thoughts and experience, and share ideas and questions. These unconference sessions are also augmented with a series of presentations from leaders in the field, panel debates and networking opportunities.

Note from the person posting this:

This event is free, easy to pop into and check out, and great for anyone interested in community. There's a strong tech focus as this is right before OSCON in the same venue, so if you work in tech and are interested in anything related to communities, it's especially useful.

    OSCON 2014
    through
    Oregon Convention Center

Once considered a radical upstart, open source has moved from disruption to default. Its methods and culture commoditized the technologies that drove the Internet revolution and transformed the practice of software development. Collaborative and transparent, open source has become modus operandi, powering the next wave of innovation in cloud, data, and mobile technologies.

OSCON is where all of the pieces come together: developers, innovators, businesspeople, and investors. In the early days, this trailblazing O'Reilly event was focused on changing mainstream business thinking and practices; today OSCON is about real-world practices and how to successfully implement open source in your workflow or projects. While the open source community has always been viewed as building the future—that future is here, and it's everywhere you look. Now in its 16th year, OSCON is the best place on the planet to experience the open source ecosystem. At OSCON, you'll find everything open source: languages, communities, best practices, products and services. Rather than focus on a single language or aspect, such as cloud computing, OSCON allows you to learn about and practice the entire range of open source technologies.

In keeping with its O'Reilly heritage, OSCON is a unique gathering where participants find inspiration, confront new challenges, share their expertise, renew bonds to community, make significant connections, and find ways to give back to the open source movement. The event has also become one of the most important venues to announce groundbreaking open source projects and products.

Innovation in Motion Panel @ Innotech

    “Where should innovation start?”

The majority of business leaders do not recognize the value of IT in innovation.... Meanwhile, some companies make use of technology trends, including big data, social, and mobile. How does data, development, and design influence the maturity of tech innovation? How does one area influence the other two and where do great ideas begin?

Join us as we walk through a number of innovative case studies of innovation. Some started with data, moved to development and were later marketed to the masses. Others started with development and marketing, leaving design as an afterthought. The products are interesting, and the individual approaches are fascinating.
