| description |

Hey folks! It’s time again for our monthly meeting. Whether you’re a newcomer to Scala or an experienced expert, we’d love to have you join us. We've got two great talks lined up this month and you won't want to miss either of these. Both speakers will be previewing their Lambda Conf talks. First up, we'll have our own Rob Norris talking about the implementation of his library Doobie which provides a pure functional JDBC layer for Scala.

We're also very lucky to have Paul Phillips joining us to talk about Suffuse. Suffuse is a system for writing filesystems in scala, built on top of native FUSE. The goal is that it be no more difficult to create a new filesystem than to create a new file. Subject matter will include the project's motivation, state, and opportunities for participation. He'll also talk about principles of API design in the Suffuse context.

We look forward to seeing you all there!
|

The 1 Million cups weekly meetings are a great opportunity for people and founders to connect.
Each week we invite a founder of a local startup or unique local business to give a short presentation. Then we follow up with a productive guided Q & A from the audience.
Founders learn great insights about their businesses and the audience learns from people making great ideas happen in our exciting Portland startup scene.
No registration needed, no pretense allowed, just great coffee, conversation and connections every week. Come on by. |

Revolution Hall is a beautifully renovated performing arts center housed within the former George Washington High School building in Southeast Portland.
Founded in 1906 as Eastside High, the school was renamed in 1909 to Washington High and moved to the iconic brick landmark at SE 14th and Stark St., built in 1924 after a fire destroyed the original building. The school boasts many notable alumni such as Portland’s original food enthusiast and chef James Beard and Nobel Peace and Nobel Prize in Chemistry scholar Linus Pauling.
The school was closed in 1981 by Portland Public Schools due to low enrollment. The facility was occasionally used for various purposes and events, but remained predominantly vacant over the years.
Since its purchase in 2013, the 113,500 square foot building has been extensively renovated to accommodate offices, a roof top deck for weddings and private events and an 830-seat performing arts venue. |

Responsive Field Day
Roll back
| description |
nil |
→ |
Join us for a spirited, knowledge-packed day scouting the frontiers of responsive web design and development in lovely Portland, Oregon. Responsive Field Day is a welcoming and affordable gathering for web designers and developers.
Tickets are only $175! We are keeping ticket prices low so that more of you can join us.
Any proceeds from the event will be donated to programs that support open web technologies, the tech community and education.
## Speakers
* *Stephanie Rieger*, consummate researcher whose humanist talks explore anthropological and technical realms
* *Ethan Marcotte*, who, you know, invented Responsive Web Design. And who also weaves a riveting presence in his talks.
* *Jeremy Keith*, whose impact on web practices are legion, and who spices up the discourse on any panel.
* *Yesenia Perez-Cruz*, who synthesizes her talents in writing, communication and graphic arts for a nuanced perspective on responsive challenges.
* *Jen Simmons*, whose powerhouse weekly podcast _The Web Ahead_ is on the required listening list for those who build the web.
* *Brad Frost*, whose bounding enthusiasm and thought leadership have helped to lead us toward a clearer responsive future.
* *Marcy Sutton*, a superhero to us from her work on Angular’s accessibility and as co-leader of Girl Develop It Seattle.
* *Sophie Shepherd*, who shares the lessons she’s learned designing Ushahidi’s open source pattern library.
* *Tom Dale*, a driving force behind Ember FastBoot, which brings server-side rendering to client MVCs.
To be honest, we’re still a bit stunned that we were able to get such an amazing group of speakers. And we still have three more speaker slots to announce! |

Learn what Angel Investors expect from a Startup Pitch and how to get ready.
You attended a Startup Weekend event and you have decide to move forward and launch your startup, you already have your team, prototype, acquired some clients and now you are ready to talk with Angel Investors but you don't know what they are looking for in a Startup before they can invest.
This is your opportunity to ask those poignant questions and learn from two of the more active Angel Investors group here in Portland.
Portland Seed Fund
The Portland Seed Fund is a privately managed fund and non-resident accelerator focused on providing emerging companies the capital, mentoring, and connections to propel them to the next level.
The PSF, typically invest $50K-$100K initially, with the potential for follow-on funding for exceptional companies and entrepreneurs. Our portfolio companies participate in a 12-week curriculum focused on operations within a rapidly-growing business. Each weekly in-person class session takes place in Portland, OR.
While sector agnostic,The PSF focus on investments in capital efficient high growth businesses. PSF strongly prefer to invest in Portland-based companies or and/or those doing a substantial amount of business in Oregon.
TiE Angels
The success of early stage companies depends on access to capital, critical advice and support networks.
TiE Oregon is pleased to feature TiE Angels, an angel investment group formed by Charter Members of TiE Oregon. The mission of TiE Angels Oregon is to support top-tier emerging companies with early stage investment, mentorship, and support.
Since inception, TiE Angels Oregon members have invested nearly $3.8M in dozens of Oregon companies.
On July 24th we will be able to learn about how to get ready for that crucial meeting with an investor and get funded.

eBay Tech Tuesdays: Let's Talk About the Kids
Roll back

It’s summer!
Summer is for kids!
Summer is also for ice cream!
So July’s Tech Tuesday is about kids and ice cream!
Okay. It’s about kids - but we’ll have ice cream.
This month we’re bringing in three local organizations who are working with kids and teens to help them build the skills necessary for careers in technology. Leaders from ChickTech, iUrban Teen, and Girls Inc. will be talking with us about who they are, what they’re doing, and how you can get involved in their efforts.
These folks are doing really awesome things for youth and we’re excited to have them in the eBay house.
As Whitney Houston crooned, “Children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way.” So come, listen, and learn about what you can do to help shape the bright young minds that are the future of tech - and really, the future in general.
See you July 28th!
Details:
Doors open at 5:45pm, presentations start at 6:30pm.
Pizza, sodas, and ice cream (and a non-dairy option) will be available.
