#Building Security In ?
**› Please RSVP via our Meetup group [HERE](https://www.meetup.com/New-Relic-FutureTalks-PDX/events/233979508/)**
Everybody *wants* to write secure code, and yet it’s hard to find a dev team that truly owns application security. Instead, a small and external security team is tasked with keeping the constant and large amount of produced functionality secure. As we can see in daily headlines, this approach is not working, and is breaking down further in the face of high efficiency continuous deployment.
How can we fix it?
In this panel, three experts who deal with this problem on a daily basis will debate the ways dev teams can step up and build security in, touching best practices, tools, where to get started and much more.
**• Guy Podjarny** CEO at Snyk
*Guy (@guypod) is a cofounder at Snyk.io, focusing on securing open source code. Guy was previously CTO at Akamai and founder of Blaze.io, and worked on the first web app firewall & security code analyzer. Guy is a frequent conference speaker, the author of "Responsive & Fast”, “High Performance Images” and the upcoming “Securing Open Source Code."*
**• John Steven** CTO Cigital and Codiscope
*John’s expertise runs the gamut of software security—from threat modeling and architectural risk analysis to static analysis and security testing. He has led the design and development of business-critical production applications for large organizations in a range of industries. Since joining Cigital as a security researcher in 1998, John has provided strategic direction and built security groups for many multi-national corporations, including Coke, EMC, Qualcomm, Marriott and Finra. His keen interest in automation continues to keep Cigital technology at the cutting edge. Presently, he serves as internal CTO of Cigital and CTO of Codiscope. He has served as co-editor of the Building Security In department of IEEE Security & Privacy magazine, and as the leader of the Northern Virginia OWASP chapter. He speaks regularly at conferences and trade shows. Follow John on Twitter @m1splacedsoul*
**• Omri Iluz** Co-founder and CEO, PerimeterX
*Omri is the CEO and cofounder of PerimeterX. After spending a decade and a half building and securing web scale infrastructure at companies such as Akamai, Cotendo and iPlay, Omri decided to focus on ridding the web from Bots and other automated threats. With experience that spans everything from writing code and malware reversing to modern web architecture, Omri provides a unique point of view on the current state of affairs of web security.*
##Details
**• Doors will open at 5:30 for a 30-minute networking happy half-hour!** The food, beer and drinks are provided by Bellagios and New Relic.
**• The presentation will begin right at 6p.**
**• NOTE: after the event**, everyone is invited to continue networking at a special happy hour opportunity, one story up at Portland City Grill.

Talk 1) Game/DEVS by Austin Haas & Talk 2) Spec/Regex by Russell Mull

We'll have two talks this month.
Making Games in Clojure(script) with the DEVS Modeling Formalism
In this talk, Austin Haas will discuss why games are difficult to make and how DEVS, a popular simulation modeling formalism, can help. This talk may be relevant to anyone interested in game development, systems theory, actors, agents, or FRP.
Regex derivatives: the functional pearl inside core.spec
The new spec library in Clojure 1.9 uses an old but elegant method for recognizing sequences. We'll develop an implementation of this algorithm in Clojure.
Bio: Russell writes Clojure at Puppet. He's into guitars and separating his functions from his data. |

<p>Echo Nolan will be presenting the paper "Generic Constructors and Eliminators from Descriptions: Type Theory as a Dependently Typed Internal DSL" by Tim Sheard and Larry Diehl. The authors describe a method of encoding inductive types via descriptions that are ordinary terms, rather than each inductive type adding a new set of axioms to the theory. They go on to contribute a generic eliminator function that works for any type defined in this way.</p> |

Join us to discuss the Nobel prize winning work on the structure of DNA. We'll be diving into the Watson's and Crick's race to discover the source code of life as published in the article "A Structure for Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid" Nature. 1953. Watson, J.D. & Crick, F.H.C.
PortLab is group of like-minded yet diverse people, sharing a passion for biology and bio-tech. The Journal Club meets regularly to discuss an area of scientific interest using a peer-reviewed scientific paper as the centerpiece. A member will suggest a topic and a research article for the group to read and discuss. Each meeting begins with a summary of the chosen paper followed by lively discussion. This is an interactive event for participants to ask questions, inquire about aspects of the experimental design, comment on methods, and bring a healthy amount of skepticism to the results.

Empower Autonomous Teams - Change and Innovation Practises from Management 3.0
Roll back
| description |

→ |
The two day Management 3.0 Course is a highly engaging learning workshop with the sole focus to inspire and give tools for team members and managers to transform their workplaces. The time is ripe for a new view on the role of teams and how to empower teams to be more autonomous. Management 3.0 is redefining the definition of leadership with management as a group responsibility, and in this workshop you will get inspiring input from two facilitators Ron Quartel and Line Mørkbak who each bring a unique set of skills and point of views on how to rewamp management.
It’s all about collaborating to find the most efficient and engaging way for an organization and/or a team to achieve its goals while constantly prioritizing a flourishing, happy, innovative work environment. Get inspired to experiment with new tools and practices to support your work!
During the two days, participants will experience theory and practice in small chunks, reflect on inspiring stories, work through fun games and exercises; and have time for focused group discussions on how to apply the new knowledge back at work.
In the workshop we will explore these important questions:
* How can we motivate our team and colleagues?
* How can we be agile when the organization is not?
* How can we change the organization’s culture?
* How can we change the mindset of managers?
* How can we get teams to take responsibility?
* How can we improve teamwork and team collaboration?
Who should join?
In our complex world, management is too important to leave it only to the managers. Join this course if you are a team leader, scrum master, change agent, a passionate influencer, coach, agile developer, manager or HR leader in your organization. If you want to be a great people leader regardless of title, this workshop is for you!

September PMI Agile Roundtable
Roll back
| description |

→ |
The PMI Agile Roundtable provides a forum for exchanging ideas, techniques and real world experiences (good and bad) in managing agile projects. Although sponsored by PMI, all roles and backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to participate / debate. We value the variety of perspectives and levels of experience with agile.
This month the group will select agile-related topics / issues and have time boxed discussions. All attendees are encouraged to bring their burning agile-related topics, issues and questions for discussion/debate/brainstorming.
Note: 1 PMI PDU can be claimed for attending this event.
Thanks to Unitus Community Credit Union for their continued support.
