In addition, we'll have an approximately 30-minute presentation.

7:30 - we'll start winding down

PRESENTATION

Lessons Learned: City of Portland’s Move to the Cloud

Over the last few years, the City of Portland has slowly moved a variety of services to cloud providers. The most prominent move was its transition to Microsoft Office 365. Come hear about what motivates, as well as paralyzes, organizations like the City from embracing the cloud. Logan Kleier will discuss how to handle organizational bureaucracy, limited internal technical skills, and budget concerns as part of the process of moving large organizations to cloud services.

SPEAKER

Logan Kleier is the CEO and Founder of SecondSight, a software analytics startup based in Portland. Prior to this, he was the Information Security Officer for the City of Portland where he managed policy and operational security for the City’s infrastructure and applications. He has also worked for the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) as well as several wireless and broadband startups in the DC area. Logan has a BA from Trinity University and a Masters from Georgetown.
|

Gather with fellow Gophers for an evening of Talks and discussion around Golang! All experience levels welcome!
Schedule:
Hang out and chat with other Gophers until about 6:30
Talk: Go without the operating system by Bernerd Schaefer
Go lets you to compile your program into stand-alone binaries which can be safely shared across systems without worrying about a missing dependency. But there's one thing even a stand-alone executable depends on: the operating system. What if you could remove that dependency, too?
AtmanOS is a project built to explore that question. It allows you to compile ordinary Go programs and run them on cloud providers like Amazon's EC2, without a traditional operating system.
Please RSVP on the meetup page so we know what to set up!
Continue discussion over beers at Baileys!
Thanks to Esri R&D for hosting us once again! |

The world is changing rapidly and technology is becoming increasingly pervasive in our everyday lives. Higher education and adult learning changing too. Experiments in project-based learning, design thinking, hybrid pedagogy, and educational communities are already underway – but where will they lead us? And what does all of this mean for the future of adult learning and higher education?
Join us at our next meetup to dive into these topics! Hear from a variety of perspectives about what this changing landscape of education looks like locally and elsewhere. Sharing their perspectives are:
• Douglas Tsoi, Portland Underground Grad School
• Susan Adams, Oregon Health and Sciences University
And others (TBD) from the realm of workforce development, blended and online learning!

First Fridays Free Days and Five-Year Anniversary (and 200th Calagator event)
Roll back
| description |
Collective Agency turned 5 years old on June 15th (first planning meeting) and August 1st (opened as our own location). A lot has happened in 5 years: we've been an experiment in workplace democracy with optional participation, making here like our ideal city or village. We've hosted more than 200 tech events open to the public listed on Calagator (more than any venue except Free Geek, Lucky Lab and New Relic), and many more non-tech events (over 1,000 paid meetings, and around 1,000 member lunches). We've won awards as a coworking place and a workplace democracy.
Come work and have conversations at Collective Agency during our First Fridays Free Days, and join an optional potluck birthday celebration lunch.
Members, come as usual, and you can bring guests, it’ll be the same for you as it is every day but with more people here.
There are 2 requirements: 1) RSVP at https://www.facebook.com/groups/collectiveagency/ or http://www.meetup.com/Collective-Agency-community-workplace/ or Twitter @CollectiveAgenC with the time you expect to be here, what you’ll be working on (you can include a link to a website or social media), and what you’re looking for. This will be posted on our website, RSVP pages, and here on the wall. 2) While you’re here, aside from lunch, you’ll find ways to talk with at least 2 people here for at least 30 minutes total.
Schedule: • 9am – Open for free • 12pm – Optional potluck lunch, with birthday cake. • 5pm – End of Open House
People here for free will have access to the big loft room, the kitchen, and restrooms, but not: conference rooms, locker storage, computer monitors. You can come in groups of up to 14 people but everybody has to qualify and do the actions described above. There are no age restrictions.
The community guidelines are the core of the terms of service: http://collectiveagency.co/community-guidelines |

AlterConf is a traveling conference series that provides safe opportunities for marginalized people and those who support them in the tech and gaming industries. By highlighting the powerful voices and positive initiatives of local community members, we build hope and strengthen the community’s resolve to create safer, healthier spaces for everyone.
The conferences go beyond the limited definitions and basic discussions of diversity to create a deeper, more nuanced conversation. Each conference features a wide range of speakers delivering critical analyses of tech and gaming culture and presenting their vision for what our community can be.
We invite you to join us as we work toward a more inclusive future. |

We've hosted more than 200 tech events open to the public listed on Calagator, and many more non-tech events (over 1,000 paid meetings, and around 1,000 member lunches).

Coffee w/ Co-Founders @ Breken Kitchen
Roll back

First I'd like to apologize to all of you for not being more active. I've been a bit overwhelmed lately so I've not been able to arrange a meetup. However, it's been February since our last get together so this is long overdue!
We're hitting Breken Kitchen on the NW side of town. The space is not very large so we'll do what we can to find a place that doesn't impact the other patrons. Perhaps we can gather on their back deck. Either way, we'll have placards in the area so it's easily identifiable.
Please be sure to patronize this establishment. The worse thing we can do is show up as a big group and not at least buy a cup of coffee (thus the name).
Looking forward to seeing you all there!
