update Calagator::Event 1250472834 PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) Fourth Annual Women + Tech Holiday Party Roll back

description ***Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-third-annual-women-tech-holiday-party-tickets-39804880469#tickets] is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event *** We are giving away the PDXWIT annual tote to the first 100 people who check-in. Join us at our Women + Tech Holiday Party, co-organized by PDXWIT and WWC Portland in partnership with Lesbians Who Tech, ChickTech, PyLadies, and Girls Inc. This event is hosted by OMSI and sponsored by Nike, Cambia, the University of Washington Foster School of Business Hybrid MBA, and ClientJoy. 2017 has been a big year for our communities and we are thrilled to come together, for the fourth year, to celebrate the holidays and what we’ve accomplished. In honor of our celebratory theme, PDXWIT and WWC Portland will be recognizing individuals for their great work over the year. PDXWIT will be honoring two individuals, Best Contributor and Best Speaker. If you or someone you know has has been working hard to make PDXWIT a success or spoken at one of our events, please submit your nominations by November 19th. The Best Contributor award will be selected in advance by a panel and finalists for the Best Speaker Award will perform runoff Lightning Talks at the Holiday Party. The winner will be selected by text-to-vote. At Women Who Code, we regularly celebrate the achievements of our members through the #ApplaudHer hashtag. We use #ApplaudHer to highlight victories ranging from accepting a new position and receiving a promotion to speaking at a conference and meeting a personal goal. The concept is simple: we believe that recognition can create change and that rewriting public perceptions can transform tech. During the Women + Tech Holiday Party, we will announce our Tech Leadership and Rising Tech Star winners from the many submissions we have received throughout the year. While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a segment to hear from our sponsors and introduce and announce awards. During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking: - an activity table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director. - table topics to help break the ice. - a section for job seekers and those hiring to ensure people get connected. Music will be provided by DJ Mienne. 5:30 pm - Doors open 6:00 pm - Introductions + Welcome by Mandy Mock Vice President, Information Technology General Manager, Product Engineering Solutions at Intel 6:15 pm - Lightning Talks by Rose Flores Medlock and Kristy Wolff 6:30 pm - Networking Mandy J. Mock is a vice president in the Information Technology group and serves as the general manager of product engineering solutions at Intel Corporation. Event FAQ Q: Is the space ADA accessible? A: Yes Q: What is the parking situation? A: OMSI has free parking for this event. Q: Is there secured bike parking? A: There is variety of bike parking, and it is secure. Q: Should I consider using public transportation? A: Public transport is always best, but OMSI has plenty of parking. Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Our events are inclusive. ALL people who support our purpose are welcome. ***Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-third-annual-women-tech-holiday-party-tickets-39804880469#tickets] is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event *** We are giving away the PDXWIT annual tote to the first 100 people who check-in. create Calagator::Event 1250472952 Clojure PDX: Constructing Interfaces with re-frame w/ Matthew Lyon Roll back

description nil We've had a few presentations on using re-frame and continue to get many questions on this fantastic tool. There is a lot to learn but you will be rewarded when building single page apps. So this month our own Matthew Lyon will present: Constructing Interfaces with re-frame I’ve talked to many clojurists who are curious about front-end programming but don’t know where to start. They haven’t done front-end work before, they’re unfamiliar with JavaScript or React, and they don’t understand how those pieces fit together. I’ll walk through what a ClojureScript development environment looks like; what makes front-end programming different and how React, reagent, and re-frame fit into this; how to create views with Reagent; how to manage state and the outside world with re-frame; and how to effectively debug your front-end code. Matthew Lyon has been building the front- and back-ends for web applications for over twelve years, and with Clojure for three years. He enjoys creating interfaces for helping people work through complex interactions.

description nil Human.School is a development-focused learning experience designed for people operations people (official or unofficial!) - the administrative assistants, the operations coordinators, the office manages - in small, but growing companies or nonprofits. It’s unlike any conference you’ve been to before: you and 99 other professionals will experience two high-intensity, high value days of learning and applying experiences to create a full-fledged people ops strategy. You won't have to choose between concurrent sessions and speakers, and you'll be treated like a VIP the whole time. Human.School takes a practical approach to learning full cycle people operations, something most HR and culture events don’t do.

create Calagator::Event 1250472945 Galois Tech Talk: Tree-Sitter: A New Parsing System for Programming Tools Roll back

description nil Abstract: Developer tools that support multiple languages generally have very limited regex-based code-analysis capabilities. Tree-sitter is a new parsing system that aims to change this paradigm. We’re in the process of integrating Tree-sitter into both GitHub.com and Atom, which will allow us to analyze code accurately and in real-time, paving the way for better syntax highlighting, code navigation, and refactoring support. We’ll demo some new features that Tree-sitter has enabled in GitHub.com and Atom, discuss its implementation, and share thoughts on ways it could be used in the future. Bio: Max Brunsfeld is an engineer on GitHub’s Atom team. Prior to joining GitHub, he worked at Pivotal Labs as a full-stack engineer. He enjoys programming, especially in C and C++, jazz guitar, bicycling and hiking. He lives in Portland with his wife and two toddlers.

People often talk about creating a work culture that allows people to “bring their best self to work.” To start the conversation, we are asking “what is an important personal value you bring to work?” with an aim to allow us to explore our best selves. While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community. Introduction to SurveyMonkey, including what they do and what job opportunities are available. Amy King, Software Product Manager at SureID, Inc., will talk about picking the right approach to design for emerging vs. established technologies. Madonnalisa Chan, Freelance Information Architect - Taxonomist, will talk about making values-based decisions in your career. During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking: An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director. Table Topics to help break the ice. A section for job seekers and those hiring, to ensure people get connected.
