update Calagator::Event 1250473037 CHIFOO Event: “F.U.” Money, Courage, & Ethics In The Workplace Roll back

description CHIFOO presents ""F#@K You" Money, Courage, & Ethics In The Workplace" with Elena Moon, Osage Orange! Often defined as the wealth required to burn any bridge, it turns out F.U. money isn't a lifestyle replete with yachts and gold plated toilets. It's having enough money in the bank to be able to speak your mind and, if necessary, walk...to the next job. Learn how personal finances play a huge role in silencing us and how financial freedom through living simply can lead to finding courage, agency and voice at work. About The Speaker Elena Moon (@Elena_Moon) is the founder of Osage Orange, a human-centered design studio. She has been doing a mix of research and design for the last 15 years and particularly enjoys socially and environmentally conscious projects. CHIFOO is celebrating its 25th anniversary all year long! Come join CHIFOO for our tenth speaker event for 2018's theme "Do the Right Thing- HCI Ethics: Where Do We Start?". http://bit.ly/2DyY89D CHIFOO presents ""F#@K You" Money, Courage, & Ethics In The Workplace" with Elena Moon, Osage Orange! description nil
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll practice using design thinking methods to empathize with a wider group of users, and develop solutions that work better for everyone. Universal design is an approach where a primary requirement of any design is that all its users can access it, regardless of any physical or cognitive impairment they may have. It's also known as 'inclusive' or 'accessible' design. We’ll start with a short overview of how universal design can combined with design thinking to quickly deliver valuable insights during the design process. This will be an easy, fun, and very interactive introduction to combining universal design and design thinking methods!

Light refreshments will be provided.

Portland Community Design Thinkers and Portland Accessibility and User Experience are excited to partner to bring you this meetup. This event will be limited to 40 participants - if your plans change, please update your RSVP.

We look forward to having you join us in our first meetup of the new year!

create Calagator::Event 1250473035 PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) West Side Mixer Roll back

description nil ***Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-west-side-mixer-tickets-41628485922] is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event *** Many of us live and/or work on this side of the West Hills but may not have a professional community convenient to the area. Thanks to PDXWIT’s and Salesforce’s support, let’s get together to talk tech and other work topics. The news at the end of 2017 was dominated by issues we encounter at the workplace regularly, so let’s talk about the part HR has played in our professional experiences. Have you seen or participated in particularly positive human resources instances? Do you have lessons to share from any “less than” situations? Hopefully, this ongoing discussion will provide support to all of us now and in the future. Agenda: 5:30 p.m. - Doors open 6:00 p.m. - Introductions + Lightning Talks 6:30 p.m. - Networking 7:30 p.m. - Event ends Event FAQ: Q: What is the parking situation? A: Yes, there is plenty of free parking. Q: Is there secured bike parking? A: There is some space for bikes inside the building, and racks outside, but riders will need to bring locks for those racks. Q: Should I consider using public transportation? A: Not necessarily; Salesforce is out in the ‘burbs with plenty of parking. There is, however, a MAX stop (Orenco station, blue line) about a 10 minute walk away. Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Our events are inclusive. ALL people who support our purpose are welcome.

description ***Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdxwit-january-happy-hour-networking-event-tickets-40888648047] is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event *** Join us for happy hour at SurveyMonkey on January 23rd. People often talk about creating a work culture that allows people to “bring their best self to work.” To start the conversation, we are asking “what is an important personal value you bring to work?” with an aim to allow us to explore our best selves. While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community. Introduction to SurveyMonkey, including what they do and what job opportunities are available. Amy King, Senior Product Manager at Digimarc [https://www.digimarc.com/], will talk about picking the right approach to design for emerging vs. established technologies. Madonnalisa Chan, Freelance Information Architect - Taxonomist, will talk about making values-based decisions in your career. During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking: - We are celebrating our 6th anniversary (yes 6 years!) with a photo booth courtesy of Snapbar (https://thesnapbar.com/) - An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director. - Table Topics to help break the ice. - A section for job seekers and those hiring, to ensure people get connected. Agenda: 4:30 p.m. - Doors open/Networking 5:30 p.m. - Introductions, Announcements + Lightning Speakers 6:30 p.m. - : Event ends Event FAQ: Q: Is the space ADA accessible? While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community. Introduction to SurveyMonkey, including what they do and what job opportunities are available. Amy King, Senior Product Manager at Digimarc [https://www.digimarc.com/], will talk about picking the right approach to design for emerging vs. established technologies. create Calagator::Event 1250473021 CHIFOO Event: Is Design Metrically Opposed? Roll back

description nil CHIFOO presents "Is Design Metrically Opposed?" with Jared Spool, Center Centre & UIE! The world of metrics and analytics have often been at odds with how designers work. Design is a process where we finely tune our intuition to create great user experiences. Yet, sometimes, what we think is best rivals the metrics. So which do we believe-our gut or the data? In the world of measures, metrics, and Key Performance Indicators some practices, like the growth hacking approach to increasing Monthly Average Users (MAUs), have hurt the online experience of Instagram and LinkedIn. While alternatives to satisfaction and net promoter score give insight into the design process and help designers have better instincts. If you’re ready to talk to your teams about what you really need, help management interpret the data, and create analytical experiments that provide design insights, don’t miss this talk. About the Speaker Jared Spool (@jmspool) is a co-founder of Center Centre and the founder of UIE. While he led UIE, the industry research firm he started in 1988, the field of UX design emerged and Jared helped define what makes UX designers successful all over the world. UIE's world-class research organization produces conferences and workshops all over the world and for companies in every industry. In 2016, with Dr. Leslie Jensen-Inman, he opened Center Centre, a new school in Chattanooga, TN to create the next generation of industry-ready UX Designers. They created a revolutionary approach to vocational training, infusing Jared's decades of UX experience with Leslie's mastery of experience-based learning methodologies. CHIFOO is celebrating its 25th anniversary! Come join CHIFOO for our first speaker event for 2018's theme "Do the Right Thing- HCI Ethics: Where Do We Start". http://bit.ly/2BMf4tw
