create Calagator::Event 1250473571 Seeking App Dev and IT Pro volunteers to teach Computer Science in Public Schools Roll back

description nil Make sure you register here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KZYLD2G TEALS (Technology Education and Literacy in Schools) believes that every high school in the US should offer high-quality, rigorous computer science courses. Computer science is a vital driver in today’s global innovation economy, but most U.S. high schools – including more than 75% of Oregon high schools – are unable to offer rigorous CS courses. Without CS in high schools, our students are missing out on essential computational skills that will help them succeed in any career they wish to pursue, and professional skills that could lead to an economically secure future. TEALS seeks to change that reality. Our volunteers work directly with classroom teachers to help them build and grow their CS teaching capacity through yearlong support and training to inspire the next generation of innovators and computer scientists. You can read more about TEALS here: https://www.tealsk12.org/ Are you interested? Want to volunteer? Register for this lunch-time event here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KZYLD2G

update Calagator::Event 1250473127 PDX Women in Tech How to Study for a Technical Interview Roll back

description ***Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-how-to-study-for-a-technical-interview-tickets-42283419847] is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event *** Interviewing for a new job can be a stressful proposition. It is hard to know what to expect and even how to prepare for it. Each company evaluates its candidates differently. Luckily, some upfront investment and preparation can really go a long way in helping you distinguish yourself from the rest of the candidates. In this seminar led by Manjiri McCoy, Software Development Engineer at Elemental, we will cover some common interviewing practices for technical interviews and what you may be able to do to get ready. We plan to cover many beneficial topics: • Morning preparation, attire, mindset • Preparation for the non-technical parts • How to study for the coding interview • How to execute the coding test Due to the level of interaction required, attendance will be capped at 20. Never fear: we will be organizing this same event bi-monthly because we want everyone to have access to this workshop! Agenda: 5:00 PM: Doors open 5:15 PM: Introduction 5:30 PM: Workshop begins 6:30 PM: Workshop ends Event FAQ: Q: What is the parking situation? A: No on-site parking available at this event. Q: Is there secured bike parking? A: No secured bike parking available at this event. Q: Should I consider using public transportation? A: Yes, taking public transportation to this event is recommended. The event is conveniently located near MAX and bus lines. Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Our events are inclusive. description nil Want to improve your Microsoft Excel skills? Check out this new meetup! Power Query is the best addition to Excel since Office 2010 but it remains largely unknown. Please, come and see a demo of Power Query if you need to do any kind of data-cleansing or data-preparation, like: • Peel the domains out of email addresses • Convert reports into sortable tables • Compare lists • Stack the data from multiple tabs These common tasks can be done with built-in Power Query features, whereas, in the olden days some of these tasks required VBA coding or hours of manual effort. Gaining some Power Query skill is one of the simplest ways to get more from your data. You'll see! Oz du Soleil is a Microsoft Excel MVP, author of Guerrilla Data Analysis, 2nd Ed., and runs the YouTube channel Excel on Fire. description nil The PMI Agile Roundtable provides a forum for exchanging ideas, techniques and real world experiences (good and bad) in managing agile projects. Although sponsored by PMI, all roles and backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to participate / debate. We value the variety of perspectives and levels of experience with agile. This Month we're honored to have Daniel Lynn present: Technical Consulting Summary: What Is Technical Coaching? All the best athletes teams have coaches. Musicians and singer? They have coaches too. If you’re a top-level executive at a Fortune 500 company, chances are you have a coach too. So what about the people building your products? Should they have coaches? Coaching has really taken off over the past decade, but somehow our teams - the people who make the products that our companies live or die by - they’ve been left behind. In this talk we’ll discuss the what a technical coach does (and doesn’t do) and how to tell if your team could benefit from one. About Daniel: Daniel has been developing software for nearly two decades and has been working in agile teams for the last 10 years. More recently, he has worked with agile42 coaching teams on the adoption of agile practices both in code and across the organization, but his passion is still in writing great software and helping others do the same. We will meet at: The Standard 900 SW Fifth Ave, Portland, OR 97204 Class Rooms 1 & 2 Meeting Rooms are on the lower level by OutTakes Cafe Thanks to The Standard for providing space for this event Note: PMI Certification holders can claim 1 PMI PDU for attending this event.
