Are you getting started with containers in Azure? Do you have a single container workload (for example: a website or webapi that uses a database)? Have you put all the pieces of the puzzle together yet to determine what products in Azure are needed for your solution? In this session I will cover a few scenarios for getting web sites (that are docker containers) in Azure - including:
- Azure Container Registry
- App Service on Linux
- Web App for Containers
- Azure Container Instances
The premise for this talk is running simple containers in Azure (not multi node systems that need Kubernetes or anything like that). I've got several demos to show you the different Azure products and some pros/cons for when you would use them.
Our speaker is Jason Haley.
Jason Haley is a Microsoft Azure MVP, Independent Consultant specializing in Azure and Angular. Jason is visiting from the Boston area, where he is very involved in the developer community.
Agenda:
11:15am – Welcome time, catering served.
11:30am – Group announcements
11:45am – Presentation
1:30pm – End of presentation

Agile Practitioners' Book Club: The Five Dysfunctions of a Team
Roll back
| description |

Join us for a beer (or beverage of your choice) and a snack at the Rogue Eastside Pub to discuss Patrick Lencioni's book "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team". If you work with teams and team success, this book may be an interesting addition to your library.
Lencioni tells the story of a troubled Silicon Valley firm and the new CEO faced with uniting and guiding a team of leaders with the aim of making the company a success. Through this business fable, Lencioni highlights the common dysfunctions that he claims can cripple any team: absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of commitment, avoidance of accountability, and inattention to results. He offers ways to assess a team and provides actionable steps on how to overcome each of the 5 dysfunctions.
Food for thought:
- This book tells the tale of a CEO refashioning the dynamic of an executive committee. Do fables apply to everyone?
- Is Lencioni right? Does he name the most important dysfunctions that challenge the teams you work with?
- What can we learn from this representative tale about development teams? Where can we add our own wisdom to Lencioni's model?
We look forward to learning what Agile mindsets bring to the table!
Tip: It's worth reading some online book reviews for critical perspectives.

<p>Thursdays are open house night here at CTRL-H. Jon and Melinda are available during this time to give guided tours, answer questions and show you all that the hackerspace has to offer.</p> <p>We don't have an opening ceremony or any formal meeting. This is a time for you to eavesdrop on other peoples projects and get support on a project that you may need help with. Bring your laptop, projects, inventions, your technical toys and your broken microwave to CTRL-H and hack with friends.</p> |

AgilePDX Dntn Pub Lunch: Outside the Frameworks - Other Forms & Approaches to Agile

Another month another chance to build our Community of Practice!
Since 2001 the Manifesto has been known, and in those intervening years an industry has grown up around codifying frameworks and methodologies for 'doing' Agile.
Scrum, XP, Crystal, SAFe, Nexus, Grows, etc... The list goes on and on.
What practices, methods, ceremonies or other aspects of this development philosophy are emerging? What are practitioners doing? Do framework certifications matter (e.g. Scrum Master).
Join us for this exciting topic, a chance to converse with various members of our community of practice, and to eat delicious food and drink beer in Downtown Portland!
**Please follow the link to RSVP!**

pdxFLIT August Meetup - Professional Development Workshop
Roll back
| description |
The end of August means that Fall is around the corner. Are you switching careers this season? Are you looking to get into the tech industry for the first time? This month, pdxFLIT is taking a break from presentations to host a special workshop about professional development! We'll be partnering with our friends from Intel to provide a two-hour event featuring a variety of activities. There will be opportunities to turn strengths into interview stories, participate in resume reviews, practice elevator pitches, and practice answering tricky behavioral interview questions. If you're searching for a job, take a night off to work on these valuable skills!
More information about this event will be coming soon! If you have any questions, please contact Masen or Katie via Meetup, Twitter, email, or Slack.
Are you interested in speaking at a future pdxFLIT event? We're always looking for speakers - no experience is necessary! If you're interested in giving a talk, please contact Katie at [email protected].
We kindly ask that you abide by our Code of Conduct and Puppet's Code of Conduct when attending this event. They can be found at the following destinations:

Workshop events will begin at 6 PM. Our event facilitators will cover introductions and elevator pitches, resumés, authentic interviewing, the STAR method, and more! There will be a variety of activities to help you practice these skills so that you can put your best foot forward when you land an interview at your dream company. If you have any questions about various aspects of this event, please contact Masen or Katie via Meetup, Twitter, email, or Slack.
This event will be fully catered thanks to our awesome sponsors at Thinkful. Pizza will be served and there will be vegan and gluten-free options available. Thinkful is an online coding bootcamp that is helping the next generation of software developers transition into the tech industry. They host a variety of events in Portland and are always accepting new students. If you're interested in learning more, be sure to check out their site at https://www.thinkful.com/.
