create Calagator::Event 1250474135 Foldable Boat for OMSI Maker Faire Roll back

description nil Would you like to see a foldable boat demo Hong is bringing to Maker Faire? Hong will show how it behaves when it is in the water, and you can try it on the river at Rood Bridge Park. Hong will talk about how you can make the boat in 4 hours and costs as low as $85. Most people have the simple tools to make it at home (hair driver, ruler). Here is a video Hong as made https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoE5nxQ8CEQ&feature=youtu.be Life jackets provide (we'll have a disclosure for you). If you would like to join the discussion check us out on Zoom https://zoom.us/j/7891236789. If you want to listen, we're also on Facebook Live https://www.facebook.com/KnowledgeMavens/. description nil ***Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-how-to-transition-into-product-tickets-49222565017] is required to gain entry to this event *** Very few product managers started out thinking “I want to be a product manager when I grow up.” Much more commonly they come from other disciplines, such as engineering, marketing, or customer support. In this session, we’ll discuss how we got into product management, the successful paths we’ve seen for others and how we’ve coached others seeking to make this transition. We will also discuss some common pitfalls to avoid when moving from another discipline. Agenda: 5:00 p.m. - Doors open 5:30 p.m. - Introduction, with a few words about Skyward 5:40 p.m. - Talk: How to Transition into Product Mariah Scott, President, Skyward (a Verizon Company) Susannah Axelrod, VP Product Management, Skyward (a Verizon Company) Additional speakers TBA Q&A: 7:00 p.m. - Networking 7:30 p.m. - Event ends Event FAQ: Q: Will there be gender neutral restrooms? A: Yes. Q: Is the space ADA accessible? A: Yes. Q: Will there be food and drink at this event? A: Yes. Q: What is the parking situation? A: Mercy Corps has a small parking lot located on the Northside of the building that is free after 5:00 p.m., if spots are available. There is also plenty of street parking available and nearby paid parking lots (the least expensive all day parking is located at the Smart Park lot— 33 NW Davis Street). Q: Is there any special information that might help me find the entrance? A: The event will be held a few blocks from the Skyward offices at Mercy Corps, 45 SW Ankeny Street, Portland, OR 97204. Participants will enter through the main doors on Ankeny between SW Naito and 1st. Q: Is there secured bike parking? A: No, there will not be secured bike parking at the event location. Q: Should I consider using public transportation? A: Public transportation is always a great alternative. The event is near the Skidmore Max stop. Q: Can I bring my dog? A: No, we ask that you leave your furry friend home. Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Our events are inclusive. ALL people who support our purpose are welcome.

create Calagator::Event 1250474126 Introducing "Placemaking in the Digital Age" Roll back

description nil Amplified, an experience design and technology innovation studio in Portland focused on imagining the communities of the future, is launching a new series called “Placemaking in the Digital Age” to galvanize a community around this emerging design discipline. In this series, we will discuss how we can build meaningful places where digital and physical experiences complement each other, examine design processes and methodologies, and examine the nature of design teams that create these experiences. Join us on Thursday, August 23 as we kick off this series. Gregg Sloan, Founder and Chief Creative Officer and Janani Vasudev, Director of Experience Design at Amplified will introduce the series with a talk about what placemaking is, as well as discuss their work in the area. The 45-minute talk will be followed by a Q&A, with plenty of time in the beginning and at the end to network. Complimentary refreshments will be provided. This event has a seating limit of 30 people. Please don’t forget to RSVP to save a spot!

update Calagator::Event 1250474125 PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) September Happy Hour Roll back

description ***Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-september-happy-hour-tickets-49177317681] is required to gain entry to this event *** Join us for Happy Hour at Schrodinger on September 18th. We talk a lot about the importance of technical skills at every level of the technology industry, but our soft skills can be just as important, if not more! This month we are focusing on how we can nurture and leverage our soft-skills and natural strengths at work. To facilitate this discussion we’ve set the conversation starter to “how can you create space for folks transitioning into tech.” While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community. An employee of Schrodinger will provide an introduction to the company and share open job opportunities. Shauna Levy, of Shauna Levy Strengths + Leadership LLC, will tell us how understanding our natural strengths (the things we do without thinking) can be applied to improve our performance and satisfaction at work. Caroline Clyburn, licensed massage therapist, will talk about self-care, and how it relates to health, happiness, and performance! During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking: An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director. Table Topics to help break the ice. A section for job seekers and our sponsors who are hiring, to ensure people get connected. Agenda: 4:30 p.m. - Doors open/Networking 5:30 p.m. - Introductions, Announcements + Lightning Speakers 6:30 p.m. - Event ends Event FAQ: Q: Will there be gender neutral restrooms? A: Yes Q: Is the space ADA accessible? A: Yes Q: Will there be food and drink at this event? A: Yes there will be food and drink with labeled vegan and GF options Q: What is the parking situation? A: NO - Best Option = SmartPark at 4th and Yamhill - we don't validate parking Q: Is there any special information that might help me find the entrance? A: Entering: Guests can come in through SW 5th and SW Morrison Avenue and make their way to the top floor of Pioneer Place mall. Exiting: When the mall is closed (after 8 pm), guests can use our private elevator exit that will drop them directly on 5th Avenue. Q: Is there secured bike parking? A: No Q: Should I consider using public transportation? A: YES - max and bus accessible Q: Can I bring my dog?
