Would you like to see a foldable boat demo Hong is bringing to Maker Faire?
Hong will show how it behaves when it is in the water, and you can try it on the river at Rood Bridge Park. Hong will talk about how you can make the boat in 4 hours and costs as low as $85. Most people have the simple tools to make it at home (hair driver, ruler).
Here is a video Hong as made https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoE5nxQ8CEQ&feature=youtu.be
Life jackets provide (we'll have a disclosure for you).
If you would like to join the discussion check us out on Zoom https://zoom.us/j/7891236789. If you want to listen, we're also on Facebook Live https://www.facebook.com/KnowledgeMavens/.

Surprisingly, the neuroscience behind these reactions is similar to that of our early ancestors - but their survival was at stake. In this talk I will address diversity and inclusion, with a focus on inclusivity and the neuroscience behind it.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Location Details:

New Relic

111 SW 5th Ave,

27th Floor

Portland, OR 97204
|

С чего начинать ремонт в квартире
Roll back
| description |

Want to learn how to take your projects to the next level?
Practical, Hands-on Training for Scrum
Join us for an all day Scrum workshop on August 20th, 2016; hosted by the IBEA featuring Suzanne Ward MBA MEng PMP CSM CSPO PSM CSP, a Scrum Master & Agile Coach/Trainer from Intel.
Our world is changing fast. Markets and consumers are demanding faster, cheaper and better products. Demands for quicker turnaround on new product development and innovation have only increased. How do companies like Google, Yahoo, Amazon, and Apple keep up? They practice agile techniques, in particular they utilize scrum to manage their projects.
Scrum has the power to transform project management across every industry, every business, and even across your personal life. By using Scrum, you’ll become more agile, discovering how to react more quickly and respond more accurately to the inevitable change that comes your way. Very few product managers started out thinking “I want to be a product manager when I grow up.” Much more commonly they come from other disciplines, such as engineering, marketing, or customer support.
In this session, we’ll discuss how we got into product management, the successful paths we’ve seen for others and how we’ve coached others seeking to make this transition. We will also discuss some common pitfalls to avoid when moving from another discipline.
Agenda:
5:00 p.m. - Doors open
5:30 p.m. - Introduction, with a few words about Skyward
5:40 p.m. - Talk: How to Transition into Product
Mariah Scott, President, Skyward (a Verizon Company)
Susannah Axelrod, VP Product Management, Skyward (a Verizon Company)
Additional speakers TBA
Q&A:
7:00 p.m. - Networking
7:30 p.m. - Event ends
Event FAQ:
Q: Will there be gender neutral restrooms?
A: Yes.
Q: Is the space ADA accessible?

There is also plenty of street parking available and nearby paid parking lots (the least expensive all day parking is located at the Smart Park lot— 33 NW Davis Street).
Q: Is there any special information that might help me find the entrance?
A: The event will be held a few blocks from the Skyward offices at Mercy Corps, 45 SW Ankeny Street, Portland, OR 97204. Participants will enter through the main doors on Ankeny between SW Naito and 1st.
Q: Is there secured bike parking?
A: No, there will not be secured bike parking at the event location.
Q: Should I consider using public transportation?
A: Public transportation is always a great alternative. The event is near the Skidmore Max stop.

A: No, we ask that you leave your furry friend home.
Purpose:
PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women.
Our events are inclusive. ALL people who support our purpose are welcome. |

Introducing "Placemaking in the Digital Age"
Roll back
| description |

→ |
Amplified, an experience design and technology innovation studio in Portland focused on imagining the communities of the future, is launching a new series called “Placemaking in the Digital Age” to galvanize a community around this emerging design discipline. In this series, we will discuss how we can build meaningful places where digital and physical experiences complement each other, examine design processes and methodologies, and examine the nature of design teams that create these experiences.
Join us on Thursday, August 23 as we kick off this series. Gregg Sloan, Founder and Chief Creative Officer and Janani Vasudev, Director of Experience Design at Amplified will introduce the series with a talk about what placemaking is, as well as discuss their work in the area. The 45-minute talk will be followed by a Q&A, with plenty of time in the beginning and at the end to network. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.
This event has a seating limit of 30 people. Please don’t forget to RSVP to save a spot! |

PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) September Happy Hour
Roll back

***Registration through Eventbrite [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-september-happy-hour-tickets-49177317681] is required to gain entry to this event ***
Join us for Happy Hour at Schrodinger on September 18th.
We talk a lot about the importance of technical skills at every level of the technology industry, but our soft skills can be just as important, if not more! This month we are focusing on how we can nurture and leverage our soft-skills and natural strengths at work. To facilitate this discussion we’ve set the conversation starter to “how can you create space for folks transitioning into tech.”
While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community.
An employee of Schrodinger will provide an introduction to the company and share open job opportunities.
Shauna Levy, of Shauna Levy Strengths + Leadership LLC, will tell us how understanding our natural strengths (the things we do without thinking) can be applied to improve our performance and satisfaction at work.
Caroline Clyburn, licensed massage therapist, will talk about self-care, and how it relates to health, happiness, and performance!
During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking:
An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director.
Table Topics to help break the ice.
A section for job seekers and our sponsors who are hiring, to ensure people get connected.
Agenda:
4:30 p.m. - Doors open/Networking
5:30 p.m. - Introductions, Announcements + Lightning Speakers
6:30 p.m. - Event ends

_Note: Register here for the pizza and pop headcount, please: https://www.meetup.com/AgilePDX-User-Group-Portland-Metro/events/252527226/_
Learn about an experiment in using Open Space as a way to dynamically form teams around work. The group meets every two days and holds a marketplace to decide what needs to happen next. People sign up for the story where they feel they can add the most value.
It's like a continuous hackathon! Not only is it working, people love it.
Ron Quartel will tell you his life purpose is to "unleash the human spirit in the workplace." He loves all things software and nurturing--business/development harmony in particular. |

Linaro's AI and Neural Networks on Arm Summit is intended to bring the software and silicon industries together to educate and collaborate, in order to accelerate development of these fascinating new technologies, while also mitigating the fragmentation and duplication of effort to support the many AI/NN frameworks spanning the range of silicon vendor offerings.
There will be sessions on the latest AI technologies available in edge and consumer devices from the Arm ecosystem and how these accelerate deep learning applications leveraging the most widely adopted AI frameworks:
Inference on NPU, GPU, DSP and CPU
AI/ML frameworks and NN formats
NN HAL plug-in frameworks
Linaro is a not for profit organisation whose mission is to lead collaboration in the Arm ecosystem. Every six months, Linaro hosts Linaro Connect, a week long engineering conference involving technical sessions, keynotes from thought leaders and hacking.
