A: Before 6:00pm, both Pacific Center entrances are available (SW 6th Avenue or Broadway).
After 6:00pm, for attendees who do not use the parking garage, Pacific Center access is through the main SW 6th Avenue building entrance. The building is locked to visitors after 6:00pm.
For attendees who are using the Pacific Center parking garage (this applies to cyclists who will lock their bikes in the garage, too). The parking garage is located on B1 and B2. From B1/B2, you will be able to access only the 1st Floor (this is the street level / lobby floor of Pacific Center). Take the elevator to the 1st floor, and exit to the elevator lobby. From there, a PDXWIT volunteer and Smarsh employee will be stationed in the elevator lobby to provide elevator badge access to the 8th floor.

The photography world has been upended a few times in the last couple of decades and with all professional photography on hiatus for the time being, we'll find out if this leads to another major change. What hasn't changed is that every business, from startup to corporation, needs to have images of their people, products, venues, and other resources. These photos end up on websites, social media, in print, at those things called conferences that we used to do, and elsewhere. Folks are going to notice the difference between an organization that has solid consistent imagery versus an outfit where you can tell that their visual brand was an afterthought.
What does photography and visual branding look like for a startup or other organization in 2020 and beyond? When should you hire a pro and when should you do it yourself? If you can afford the same gear as a pro, what else are they bringing to the table that you don't have? Should you invest in photography proactively, or react as you have a need for pictures? We all rely on the bonds of our community in order for our businesses to thrive. We seek intros to VCs, backchannels to clients, advice from our peers and mentors. In normal times, these bonds heavily rely on in-person interactions — coffees, lunches, beers, and 1:1's.
Reading body language is a critical component to reinforcement of those bonds. In our most vulnerable moments, we want to ensure that the other party is present, listening, and empathizing. And beyond the 1:1 interactions, in social places like our coffee shops and coworking spaces, we create room for serendipity — that chance encounter that leads to something new and unexpected, whether it's a new business idea or a solution to an existing problem facing a member of our community.
During this pandemic, we've been stripped of the ability to interact as normal. Sure, we have all these video chat tools — but it's not a replacement of our in-person interactions, just a digital proxy. And while those proxies may suffice for our 1:1 meetings, they certainly aren't helping with serendipity.
So how do we form community in a time of crisis? How do we create space for chance? And how can we come together to listen, to engage, to be present, when many of us are already at our wits end staring at a video on a computer screen all day long?
Join us for a mentor Q&A with Marcelino Alvarez, Chief Product Officer at Fresh Consulting. He was formerly CEO of Uncorked Studios, which co-founded Safecast during the 2011 Fukushima earthquake and ensuing nuclear disaster. He'll share perspectives from then and now as he undertakes other efforts to maintain his community and pursue digital serendipity.

We tell stories all the time: to persuade someone to support our idea, to explain to an employee how they might improve, or to inspire a team that is facing challenges. It’s an essential skill. But what makes a compelling story? And how can you improve your ability to tell stories that persuade? Learn techniques to use in an interview when you want to convey your experience in a compelling and interesting way. Tell a story to generate the attention you need to move a project forward.
On May 21st, join PDXWIT and host Edgelink for an entertaining and practical event where you will learn:
Why storytelling is such an important skill
How to use common narrative structures to make your stories more memorable and effective
How to apply these techniques to your own stories
Bring a story of your own (factual or fictional); you will have a chance to give it a makeover, and to learn from others as they do the same.
The evening will involve a story about storytelling, and then we'll break out into small groups and rewrite the story you brought with you — or write one while you're there. We'll reconvene with a few examples of your story makeover and hear how you used a new framework to enhance your story.
Phil Weber, a professional trainer, fantastic storyteller and local musician will coach us on techniques that can transform the way we tell a tale.

<b>March meeting has been canceled, we are exploring options for a virtual meetup in April.</b>
<p>RainSec is an informal group of like-minded security professionals who meet to network and discuss topics of interest in a non-work, non-vendor setting.</p><p>While our target audience is experienced information security professionals, this is a public event open to any interested parties. If you have a friend or colleague who might benefit, please pass an invite along.</p> <p>Follow @PDXRainSec on Twitter for last minute updates.</p>

We normally have 12- 24 attendees - some people register on Meetup, others show up every week or see the event on Calagator. All are welcome. Pizza and beverages are served. Parking is free!
Bring your laptop. Learn and/or share your existing knowledge with others. This group focuses on Python, Django, JavaScript, jQuery, SQL, CSS and HTML. Other languages are welcome.
This week we will do introductions at 6:20 then pair up mentors and learners and/or work on projects.
Set aside one night a week to become a better developer, pick up new skills, and get help with your projects and learning. We'll have mentors on hand and a community of other learners to meet and work with.

Come play the Agile Fluency Game! You’ll gain new insights into the benefits and trade-offs of adopting agile practices—and you’ll have a great time doing it.
The Agile Fluency Game authentically simulates 2½ years on a software development team. It was developed so experiments in the game lead to new insights about your real-world options. As you play the game, you’ll make decisions about which agile practices to adopt. Of course, you have to deliver features, too! Or what’s the point?
This is a great experience for agile team members interested in learning more about their options; managers and leaders wanting to better understand agile development; and people who enjoy modern board games such as Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride.
