create Calagator::Event 1250458236 Research Club Brunch Roll back

description nil Research Club Brunches are creating a context where active and interesting poepl can meet each other and talk about what they are doing while having a little something to eat. It will be informal and relaxed, but to encourage the spread of ideas we'll be setting aside a time for anyone who wants to present something about what they do. The first two brunches were super successful, and we were absolutely blown away by the quality of the speakers.  See a brief discussion of the first brunch here <http://www.portlandmonthlymag.com/blogs/culturephile-portland-arts/research-club-pub-fair/> (thanks to Lisa Radon) and photos from the second brunch here <http://research-club.org/index.php?id=2> (thanks to Kerosene Rose). The presenter's list for Brunch #3 is looking great already. Get in touch if you're curious about presenting. We will provide a free, simple, vegetarian and vegan-friendly brunch to attendees, and the kitchen will be available to anyone interested in cooking. This will be the second of at least 5 brunches on an approximately-monthly basis, so if you can't make it to this one, there will be two more. In the interest of pushing Research Club closer to its collaborative, spontaneous ideals, we've created an online sign-up <http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dEJqTE5uRjIxV2luR2xiS2ZHM2JjUHc6MA>  for the basic tasks of brunch. If you can't contribute in that way, please consider a small donation to Tribute Gallery and Research Club. Details: Where: Tribute Gallery 328 NW Broadway #117 When: February 7, 11:30 am to 3pm, Presentations to start at 1:00, at which point the food may be gone Bring: Yourself and a friend! update Calagator::Event 1250458235 Springboard Social Innovation Forum Roll back

description The Springboard Social Innovation Forum offers a monthly event designed to support those interested in creating a better future. Our focus is to help practitioners or potential practitioners of social projects push beyond discussion and debate into action. Each Forum will inspire and teach with ideas, powerful role models, and stories. Speakers, content experts, panels, and workshops will help you improve your strategies for planning and launching effective social ventures. The Forum will create a context to connect, learn, and take action around ideas that lead to tangible change—all in a venue designed for building community. Join us for a “working Forum,” where Portlanders will put our heads together to discuss the best ways to create and support social innovation in Portland and in other communities nationwide. We will be exploring Springboard’s latest initiative, Innovative Cities--a framework of the necessary conditions for nurturing and sustaining social innovation within a city. The Innovative Cities Model is a guide for cities to adopt which provides a place for existing social innovation resources to be listed, and then publishes them in a searchable database for other cities to replicate. SPACE IS LIMITED, and RSVP is REQUIRED! Please contact Mary Grace at (503) 452-6898 or [email protected] Cost is $10.00 at the door, which will offset costs and provide a light dinner. So far this month we've given away lots of free booze and cool stuff (courtesy of @<a href="http://twitter.com/AlaskaAir">AlaskaAir</a>, @<a href="http://twitter.com/sexynurd">SexyNurd</a>, and @<a href="http://twitter.com/DarkHorseComics">DarkHorseComics</a>) to record-breaking numbers of Beer and Bloggers. Even the staff @<a href="http://twitter.com/LaughingSquid">LaughingSquid</a> stopped by to join in on the hoopla. Sweet! Have you been enjoying yourself so far? We hope so! And now, for our final Friday celebration, we've managed to work our way into the schedule of a very special guest who's heard good things about Beer and Blog and wants to come and celebrated with us: Portland's own <a href="http://twitter.com/mayorsamadams">Mayor Sam Adams</a>! We're honored by a visit from the Mayor of the city we love so much. We believe it's the spirit of community that Portland, Oregon is known for that has kept Beer and Blog humming along, growing steady and strong like we have the past two years. <a href="http://www.keepportlandweird.com/">Portland is Weird</a>, it's awesomesauce, and a visit from Sam Adams is pretty much a Seal of Portland Approval in my eyes. Please join your fellow Beer and Bloggers this Friday at the <a href="http://twitter.com/pdxgreendragon">Green Dragon</a> for the final round of cheers in celebration of our 2nd year. We'll start gathering at 4pm as usual, and expect the Mayor around 5:30pm. <em>A very special W00t! to long-time Beer and Blog supporter @<a href="http://twitter.com/faddah">faddah</a> for coordinating the introduction to Mayor's Office :)</em> RSVP on Upcoming or get you 411 on Calagator <img class="size-medium wp-image-493" title="sam_adams_portland" src="http://portland.beerandblog.com/files/2010/01/sam_adams_portland-261x300.jpg" alt="Special Guest, Mayor Sam Adams" width="183" height="210" /> The final Friday of our 2nd anniversary celebration is here. create Calagator::Event 1250458222 Silverlight Hackathon Roll back

description nil Silverlight Hackathon - Sunday Jan 31st 1pm-5:55pm Event Sponsors: *IT Motives, Get It Right, Souk* We've got a great place to hang out, and the Silverlight Hackathon is a go! Meet us downtown at Souk, and we're going to have a great day of working on Silverlight. We've had some great project suggestions, and we'll break down into groups and work on projects that we find fun. Are you new to Silverlight? This is a great chance to get started. We've already had several people offer to help beginners out. Where? Souk downtown (http://local.google.com/local?f=q&hl=en&q=322+NW+6th+Avenue,+Portland,+OR&ie=UTF8&om=1&hq=&hnear=322+NW+6th+Ave,+Portland,+Multnomah,+Oregon+97209&ll=45.525532,-122.676194&spn=0.010809,0.028818&z=16&iwloc=A ). It's super close to all kinds of Bus/Max stops, and there's a easy Smart Park close. Since it's Sunday, I expect there will even be street parking options. Souk's direction page: http://www.soukllc.com/directions.html Public Transportation souk is located on the Max Green Line/Yellow Line (China Town Stop) and the bus route. The nearby streetcar also accesses souk a few blocks away. Consult www.trimet.org for more information. By Bike Bike lockers are within a couple blocks, and U bike racks are available on souk's block. By Car Zipcar's closest spot is at Flanders and 4th. The closest garage is on Everett at 5 th one block away. Smartpark has garages within a few blocks at Naito and NW Davis and at Station Place (at the westside foot of the Broadway Bridge). Additionally, there are several outdoor lots within a few blocks of souk. What do I need? A laptop capable of running Dev Studio/Silverlight: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/dd823311.aspx What can I do to help? Burn some CD/DVDs. We need SL3 Tools + Blend/Dev Express, SL 4 Tools and Blend/Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. Bring a (labelled) extension cord/power strip Bring a projector (please let us know if you can do this) Portland Silverlight User Group Sponsors Platinum Sponsors: Vertigo Software Location Sponsors: Webtrends
