Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science (Maseeh College) students take advantage of PSU's proximity and access to technology-oriented companies in the metropolitan area.
Maseeh College works hard to create Scholarship and Internship programs for its undergraduate and graduate students.
Maseeh College has a rich history that has evolved over a 45-year period, paralleling the growth of the high-technology industry in Oregon. Consequently, Maseeh College has become the leading supplier of new employees for companies such as Intel Corporation and Tektronix, Inc.
Maseeh College's well-equipped research laboratories train students for the fast-changing technology and engineering marketplace. Maseeh College growth plans included improving educational and research facilities by building a new engineering building in 2006, part of the Northwest Center for Engineering, Science and Technology.

The building entrance is on SW Columbia between 2nd and 3rd Avenue. The door may be locked, but there's a guard on site that will let you in and you can use the doorbell to summon them. Ask the guard nicely to let you up to the 2nd floor conference room, the elevators require them to use a key card. When you get to the 2nd floor, just follow the "pdxruby" signs. This meeting space is kindly offered to us by Robert Half Technology, a company that provides IT staffing services and positions: http://www.roberthalftechnology.com/ |

Pitch Club
Roll back
| description |
nil |
→ |
Want to practice your startup pitch in front of people who've done it before? Crave the harsh criticism of your peers? Need the validation of seeing what works and what doesn't in other pitches?
Bring your 3 minute pitch. Put your name in a hat and if it gets picked, you're on. Then, answer questions and listen to painfully honest feedback from a panel of so-called experts.
The first rule of Pitch Club is you have to be ready to pitch. No teams, no moral support, no looky-loos.
More rules as we think of them.
FAQ:
Q: Who are these so-called experts and what are they going to do to me?
A: Your pitch will be evaluated by tech entrepreneurs who have pitched and gotten funded. They are your superiors.
Q: What about NDAs? Someone's going to steal my idea!
A: There are no NDAs - use your best judgment about what to talk about and what not to. Also, remember the first rule of fight club - don't talk about fight club. We're all on the honor system here.
Q: My pitch is more than 3 minutes - can I have more time?
A: No.
Q: Will it be catered?
A: Hell no. You know what's in the lobster bisque.
Q: Can anyone critique a pitch?
A: No, only the panel. |

TiE Oregon Workshop: Resetting Your Business Foundation

Are you in Search of Excellence?
Here's what Tom Peters, author of In Search of Excellence and The Little BIG Things has to say about Howard's book:
"To call Your Business Brickyard a 'bible' would not be an exaggeration. Doesn't belong on your Kindle or bookshelf - belongs in your pocket for permanent and immediate reference."
You not only get to meet the author of this book, but attend his workshop, learn about his ideas first-hand and get a free pdf version of the book.
Howard Mann, author of "Your Business Brickyard" has collected twelve essentials to any business foundation based on his experiences as an entrepreneur. Mann shows you how to get back to basics, reconnect with your purpose, and grow your business, instead of getting stuck following the latest trend or "Me too" fad. You will learn how to unlock your company's true potential instead of playing catch-up with your competitors.
When you're at an entrepreneurial roadblock, this is the book you need to reboot your thinking and get you back on the right road," says Andy Sernovitz, Author, Word of Mouth Marketing: How Smart Companies Get People Talking.
There is a fee for this event

PRESENTATION
Arch Linux
by
Daniel Hedlund
<[email protected]>
Arch Linux is an independently developed, i686- and x86_64-optimised
Linux distribution targeted at competent Linux users. It uses
'pacman', its home-grown package manager, to provide updates
to the latest software applications with full dependency tracking.
Operating on a rolling release system, Arch can be installed from
a CD image or via an FTP server. The default install provides a
solid base that enables users to create a custom installation.
In addition, the Arch Build System (ABS) provides a way to easily
build new packages, modify the configuration of stock packages,
and share these packages with other users via the Arch Linux
user repository.

CHIFOO: Why Itâs Time to Move Beyond the Usability Lab
Roll back
| description |
nil |

Why Itâs Time to Move Beyond the Usability Lab
Usability labs and similar settings have served us well for 30+ years of research and practical study of human interfaces. But itâs time to move beyond that and leverage the power of the web.
In the early days of computers, when users tended to be much more uniform, usability labs and their associated smaller numbers of study participants worked well. The internet, web, and proliferation of mobile devices have changed things. Itâs hard to imagine someone who wouldnât be a candidate user for the applications that many of us design and develop these days. We also know much more about what works and doesnât work for users. Now, instead of being used to uncover major design issues, usability testing is often used to identify small design improvements that can make a big impact to a companyâs bottom line.
Thomas will present case studies and discuss the pros and cons of some of the latest trends in usability testing, from âcrowd-sourcingâ to automated techniques for metric collection.
About the Speaker
Thomas S. Tullis., Ph.D., is Vice President of Usability & User Insight at Fidelity Investments. He joined Fidelity in 1993 and was instrumental in the development of the companyâs usability team and a state-of-the-art Usability Lab. He received his B.A. from Rice University, M.A. in Experimental Psychology from New Mexico State University and Ph.D. in Engineering Psychology from Rice University.
With more than 30 years of experience in human-computer interface studies, Thomas has published over 35 papers and holds eight U.S. patents. Prior to Fidelity, he held positions at Canon Information Systems, McDonnell Douglas, Unisys Corporation, and Bell Laboratories. He is co-author (with Bill Albert) of the book Measuring the User Experience: Collecting, Analyzing, and Presenting Usability Metrics, and co-author (with Bill Albert and Donna Tedesco) of the new book Beyond the Usability Lab: Conducting Large-scale User Experience Studies. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Bentley University, where he teaches in the graduate program in Human Factors in Information Design.

21st Century Skills: Transformative Storytelling
Roll back
| description |
If you want to tell more engaging and compelling stories, in the workplace and beyond, this class is for you.
We create stories everyday to make sense of our world. Stories shape our experiences and values. Stories breathe life into our shared reality. A great story, well presented, can move mountains. We can develop this innate ability to tell stories that move others.
We'll review storytelling as an innate act of self-expression, one that shapes our memories, interactions and group dynamics, communicates ideas and strategies, and builds shared values. Then we'll practice telling stories collaboratively and individually, using interactive and improvisational techniques. You get the opportunity to hone and improve a real-world story (or presentation) you bring to the workshop. This is a limited size class, and you will not be asked to "perform."
LIMITED DISCOUNT OFFER: Use promo code "Impro!" to purchase tickets at $20. Half off regular price!
Additional group and professional discounts available - contact Patricia via the website for details.
