Agile Testing Open Northwest
Roll back
| description |

→ |
Sponsored by AgilePDX, Agile Open Northwest, TAO QA & Dev Forums, PNSQC:
"Agile Testing: How do WE Make it Work?"
As our organizations move toward "Agileâ for developing software, we all face the challenge of understanding how to adapt our former roles and ways of working to new work roles and processes.
How do we ensure the continued value of testing?
Join us in Open Space to share your questions, challenges, strategies, success stories, and how you've overcome stumbling blocks.
In small groups, weâll discuss topics such as:
· How is Agile testing different from how weâve always done it?
· How do we know what to test?
· How do we know what not to test?
· On Agile teams, when does testing happen and whose job is it?
· What is Exploratory Testing and why should we care?
· How do regression tests work?
· How does testing improve my design? Should it?
· How do we ensure it is cost effective?
· What do people mean when they say, "no defectsâ?
· Does Agile change how we test or does it just raise the existing issues?
Bring the topics you feel passion for and add them to the list!
Each self-organizing discussion group will create a document or other record of their discussion, ideas, questions, and insights. Weâll share everyoneâs experiences at the end of the day.
Who should attend?
· Testers facing an Agile adoption/People new to the testing role/Testers eager to jump in
· Devs who want to get serious about defect-free code
· CTOs and Managers of Test/Validation, Dev, Application Delivery
· Academics preparing new software/IT professionals for the real world
Cost to attend: $75 per person (Register early. We expect to sell out.) |

OEN Workshop: From Garage to an Office - Everything an Entrepreneur Needs to Know about Leasing Space
Roll back
| description |
Besides employee payroll, "Office, Industrial, or Retail Space" is usually a company's highest business expense. Yet many young companies put this on the back burner and deal with their space needs at the last minute.
This workshop will cover what you need to know when your company is growing and you are ready to take the next step for new space or ready to expand/relocate from your current location. This session will help you plan, as well as begin thinking of future space needs so you do not lose your leverage with landlords or get thrown into a space that will cost you and your investors money that could and should be used towards other business expenses.
Topics covered in this session will be:
Timeline for the real estate process
Lease terms
Typical length of leases and expectations for Tenant Improvements
Costs the Landlord should pick up, NOT the company
Costs other than the rent you should expect
Typical steps during the real estate process
Presenter: Josh Schweitz
Josh Schweitz is in the 13th year of his commercial real estate career, and is dedicated to providing the best service and value for his clients. During his career, he won the Commercial Association of Realtors' "Rookie of the Year" award, was listed as one of Oregon Business Magazine's 2003 top ten "Up-and-Coming Brokers," and ranked among Costar's top 20 "Power Brokers." Josh has successfully negotiated over 2.9 million square feet in office/flex transactions worth approximately $245 million in consideration. Josh focuses on high tech, creative, communications, and advertising companies and has been very involved with the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network, serving on their board in 2006.

**QA and Dev Forum Event: Mobile Development and Testing in the Real World**
Over the past few years the number of mobile applications has exploded. What started as a way to deliver phone-based games and utilities has become a means to extend the functionality of phones and similar mobile devices. Corporations are now leveraging these applications to extend their products and services, retailers are deploying them as mobile point of sale devices and new companies, products and services are forming to deliver offerings in the mobile application space.
On Wednesday evening, October 17, the Development and Quality Assurance forums at the Technology Association of Oregon are presenting a panel discussion on building and testing mobile applications. Whether youâre currently building mobile applications, are planning to build them or just curious about building them, this discussion is intended to provide lessons learned from real-world experiences. The panel members represent mobile application development and testing in a variety of domains from extending corporate websites to back-end transaction processing to apps for sale on the market places.

Galois Tech Talk: Abstract "Anything": Theory and Proof Reuse via DTP

Presented by Larry Diehl.
Many advanced branches of mathematics involve structures that abstract over well known specific instances, e.g. abstract algebraic structures, equivalence relations, various orders, category theoretic structures, etc. In typed functional programming (e.g. with type classes in Haskell), encoding such structures amounts to enforcing the definition of elements and operations for a particular structure instance on one hand, and being able to use said elements and operations in generic definitions on the other hand. With Dependently Typed Programming (DTP) we can go one step further and define propositions/properties for abstract structures, and subsequently require proofs in particular instances.
This talk will tell the story of how examples of particular instances inspire an abstract definition (including its propositional properties), how to then instantiate the original concrete examples in the new abstract definition, and finally create further abstract definitions that depend on previously defined ones. Emphasis will be given on how easily concrete proofs can be used as evidence for abstract propositions, and how proofs about abstract structures parameterized by other abstract structures may reuse their proofs (similar to the more common concept of reusing operations in subsequent abstract definitions). The talk will use Agda as its demonstration language, but proofs will mostly be in the form of equational reasoning that should look familiar to the non-expert. |
