create Calagator::Event 1250471861 Healthcare Blockchain Technology Roll back

description nil When Bitcoin was introduced in the early 2000s, skepticism and excitement rose on equal levels. The blockchain concept is rapidly transitioning into the healthcare space. Blockchain technology features the ability to have decentralized and distributed data that is secure, undisputed and automatically transacted without third parties. Join us the afternoon of May 16th as we explore how this technology has evolved in recent years, as well as the compelling ways it is being introduced to a new industry such as healthcare. Healthcare blockchain has the potential of equal distribution of unified data, and could potentially go as far as disease prevention. Come join other enthusiasts in the health space to hear how automated authentication from blockchain technology is changing not only behaviors, but the way we look at systems in healthcare. Questions to be answered during this session: What industries are using blockchain technology successfully? What do the next 2-5 years look like for blockchain technology in healthcare? How does blockchain technology remain secure with such wide distribution of data? Panelists: Diego Espinosa - Co-founder & CEO - Healthcoin Thomas Kluz - Investment Professional - Providence Ventures Piyush Pushkar - Healthcare Business & Technology Executive - IBM Moderator: Marcus Estes - CEO - Chroma

update Calagator::Event 1250471852 Portland Ruby Brigade monthly meeting Roll back

description We'll have pizza & beer starting at 6pm, so stop by early if you want to have dinner and socialize before the presentations. **This month's meeting is on the 27th floor.** ##PRESENTATIONS at 7pm ###Main Presentation: "A Beginner's Guide to Open Source" by Dana Scheider ###Lauren Voswinkel: Conway's Game of Life Code Retreat. "We'll take 30-45 minutes to work on Conway's Game of Life. Pair programming is *highly* encouraged, but is not required. We'll take some time to talk about what we learned during the exercise, as well as what approaches worked and what didn't. The whole idea of this exercise is to have a space and time to actively practice coding." **Please Bring Your Laptops** After presentations we'll have more socializing time. ##**Thanks to New Relic for providing the venue and beer, pizza & snacks this month!** ARRIVING BY BIKE? Cyclists are welcome to park their bikes in the New Relic office. Bikes are not allowed in the building lobby, however, and must use the freight elevator. To get your bike up to the 5th floor, enter the building's parking lot by going down the ramp at 5th and Pine. Go past the booth -- no need to pick up a ticket -- and turn right. Go straight until you almost run into the elevator lobby, then go right again. On the back side of the elevator block you'll see a beat up pair of double doors marked "freight elevator." You can get up by buzzing in with the intercom, and saying you're here for New Relic. Ride on up to the 27th floor, you'll easily find the bike parking. ABOUT THE GROUP: *The Portland Ruby Brigade, also known as pdxruby and pdx.rb, is a user group for Ruby programmers in the Portland, Oregon area. The group welcomes all programmers interested in the language and its implementations, tools, libraries and frameworks, such as Ruby on Rails. The group has been meeting since August 2002 for presentations, demos and discussions. Every month 35-75 people come together to share their knowledge, projects and enthusiasm for Ruby. If you'd like to present or have a topic you'd like discussed, please post to the mailing list. The group usually meets on the first Tuesday of the month, "Ruby Tuesday" -- see you there!* We'll have pizza & beer starting at 6pm, so stop by early if you want to have dinner and socialize before the presentations. **This month's meeting is on the 27th floor.** ##PRESENTATIONS at 7pm ###Main Presentation: "A Beginner's Guide to Open Source" by Dana Scheider Dana joined the Cucumber core team last year (yay Cucumber!), and wants to share some of what she's learned as an OSS maintainer. This talk is aimed at people who are hoping to get their toes wet in OSS, but are not sure how to get started. ###Lauren Voswinkel: Conway's Game of Life Code Retreat. description nil Dr. Dejing Dou leads the Advanced Integration and Mining (AIM) Lab at the University of Oregon. In this talk, we focus on the use of formal (Semantic Web) ontologies in two data mining and deep learning tasks, using health datasets as the data domain. We will show how Semantic association mining allowed discovery of indirect (hidden) associations within the datasets (in this case, among diseases and drugs within electronic health records). We will also show how Ontology-based deep learning was used to predict human physical activities within a health social network. create Calagator::Event 1250471852 Portland Ruby Brigade monthly meeting Roll back

description nil We'll have pizza & beer starting at 6pm, so stop by early if you want to have dinner and socialize before the presentations. **This month's meeting is on the 27th floor.** ##PRESENTATIONS at 7pm ###Main Presentation TBA ###Lauren Voswinkel: Conway's Game of Life Code Retreat. The group usually meets on the first Tuesday of the month, "Ruby Tuesday" -- see you there!*

description nil <p>I'm very excited to announce an impromptu May 8 Meetup with three internationally recognized leaders in the NewLaw and LegalTech movements: Cat Moon, Jeena Cho, and Portland's own Alexandra Devendra! </p> <p>These forward-looking lawyers will lead a panel discussion ranging from hot topics like the blockchain and AI in legal, to less buzzworthy (but perhaps more important) concepts like what legal teams can learn from the ResponsiveOrg and Holocracy movements, why a meditation practice can help you deliver better client value (and how to start one), how to innovate using the tools of design professionals, and why diversity is the key to achieving better outcomes.</p> <p><b>Cat Moon</b> (<a href="https://twitter.com/inspiredcat">@inspiredcat</a>) teaches legal design thinking and agile project management at <a href="https://law.vanderbilt.edu/academics/academic-programs/law-and-innovation/">Vanderbilt Law School</a>, her alma mater. She is a contributor to the ABA’s <a href="http://www.lawtechnologytoday.org/author/caitlin-moon/">Legal Technology Today</a> blog and writes there and elsewhere about legal technology, blockchain, kanban and agile project management, design thinking, diversity/inclusion in the law, and work/life alignment. Cat also is co-founder, COO and CDO of <a href="http://www.legalalignment.com/">Legal Alignment</a>, a legal tech startup developing an AI-powered, interoperable platform for legal workflow and project management. She just wrapped up an international conference on Blockchain in the Law and the first <a href="http://www.mclegalhackers.org/">Music City Legal Hackathon</a>. </p> <p><b>Jeena Cho</b> (<a href="https://twitter.com/Jeena_Cho">@jeena_cho</a>) is the co-author of <i><a href="http://theanxiouslawyer.com/">The Anxious Lawyer, An 8-Week Guide to a Joyful and Satisfying Law Practice Through Mindfulness and Meditation</a></i> (ABA). She is a regular contributor to <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/jeenacho/#3b265cfd5a6a">Forbes</a>, <a href="https://bol.bna.com/author/jcho/">Bloomberg</a> and <a href="http://abovethelaw.com/author/jeenacho/">Above the Law</a> where she covers resilience, work/life integration, and wellness in the workplace. She regularly speaks on women's issues, diversity, wellness, productivity, mindfulness and meditation. She also co-founded <a href="http://shapethelaw.com/">Shape The Law</a>, an unconference for lawyers, with Alix Devendra and Mary Redzic.</p> <p><b>Alix Devendra</b> (<a href="https://twitter.com/alixdevendra">@alixdevendra</a>) is an attorney and legal design consultant based here in Portland. She <a href="https://devendra.design/">helps lawyers</a> make their work product more effective using typography and other principles of visual communication design. She is the co-author (with Cat Moon) of the forthcoming <i>Designing Your Practice: A Design Thinking Approach to Legal Services</i>. Alix also consults for legal-tech startups, who value her experience in both law practice and design thinking. She travels internationally to speak and facilitate workshops on legal design.</p> <p><br>We'll be at a new location this time, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/BackPedalPDX/">BackPedal Brewing</a> at NW 15th and Flanders. They are opening especially for us and their (excellent) beer will be on tap--please plan to support them!</p> <p>Finally, we're looking to grow this group. Please forward this invitation to anyone you think would be interested in these topics, including listservs or other groups you're a part of.</p> <p>Let us know if you have any questions; we hope to see you on Monday May 8!</p> <p>--John & Zac</p>
