create Calagator::Event 1250472512 PDX PHP - PHP TestFest! Roll back

description nil <p>There will be food and participation, so bring a computer!</p> <p>PHP TestFest seeks to create more PHP core contributors by introducing PHP programmers to the PHP language test suite, teaching them how to write phpttests. From September through December, 2017, groups worldwide will meet physically or virtually to learn how to write and contribute phpt tests. You don’t have to be a C genius—in fact, you don’t need to know C at all to contribute.<a href="https://phptestfest.org/start/#fn:phpcore">1</a> If you can write a few lines of PHP, you can write a phpt test.</p> <p>PHP TestFest wouldn’t be complete without prizes. We’re still working out the details, so we’ll announce prizes and how to win them soon.</p> <p>This kick-off meeting will be a mini-hackathon which will include information on setting up your environment and how to write and contribute phpt tests. We'll be able to continue working on our test together in the slack channel and at other meetups, so you'll want to get started with us now!!!</p>

create Calagator::Event 1250472501 Portland SaaS Founders - Developing high functioning software teams for SaaS Roll back

description nil <p>We're all faced with the challenge of creating an awesome software product for our customers. A big part of this is having a highly functional software development team.  </p> <p>In this Meetup we'll discuss:</p> <p>• When to develop software in-house versus outsourcing or partnering with another software platform. Some SaaS companies utilize a mix of in-house and outsourced developers. We'll brainstorm various possible approaches.</p> <p>• How do you train new developers?  What approaches have been successful and what has been a dismal failure? - Does it make sense to hire senior developers only or a mix of junior and senior developers?</p> <p>• Team / project organization - Do you do daily standups? How do your organize sprints? How are deadlines established and by whom? Is your team in the same office or are some remote? What tools do you use (Slack, Trello, etc.)? With all of the bugs, feature requests, UI overhauls, when do you ship updates to the product?</p> <p>• Communication and transparency - How do you speak to the rest of the team in a language everyone understands? Do you hold weekly/bi-weekly meetings to announce progress? How do you showcase new features to clients?</p> <p>Coffee, tea and draft beer will be provided. Come hang out with other SaaS founders and share your story!</p> <p><br>If there's more on this topic you would like to discuss, send us a message and we'll try and get it added to the agenda.</p>

description nil Chris Hansen will be presenting an early version of a talk "[It’s Good to Have (JVM) Options](https://oracle.rainfocus.com/catalog/oracle/oow17/catalogjavaone17?search=CON3329&showEnrolled=false)" he will be delivering at the JavaOne technology conference in October. Chris has organized technology events for youth in Portland and is a product manager for New Relic's Java agent. Abstract: The Oracle HotSpot JVM has hundreds of command-line options for tuning performance for your particular application and workload. Which ones are the most useful and the most commonly used, and which are misused? New Relic monitors more than half a million JVMs. In addition to providing runtime performance data, the New Relic Java Agent reports JVM command-line options. By looking at anonymous JVM configuration data, we can draw out interesting patterns and trends. This presentation walks through some of the most commonly used JVM options and some cases in which certain combinations may have unintended consequences. You’ll come away with a better idea of when to use an option and when JVM defaults may be the best choice.
