create Calagator::Event 1250464263 Selecting and Implementing the Right Volunteer Management System Roll back

description nil <p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>NOTE:</strong> This event will not be held on the first Wednesday of the month as per usual. Event moved to July 10 due to the holiday.</span></p> <p><span style="color: #222222;">Intended for small and volunteer run nonprofits, this presentation dispels the mystery surrounding the selection and implementation of a volunteer management system. The first half of the presentation outlines a series of steps, in lay terms, which organizations should follow when selecting a volunteer management system. The second half of the presentation gives attendees a roadmap to move their organization off their old volunteer management system and onto the newly selected system.</span></p> <p><span style="color: #222222;">Choosing a volunteer management system can, actually, be a relatively straightforward process. “Geek Speak” and “Tech Talk” will be left at the door as attendees are walked through the mechanics of how to select a volunteer management system that will meet the unique needs of their organization.</span></p> <p><span style="color: #222222;">The fun really begins once the selection process has been completed and an organization is gearing up to put in the new system. Attendees will gain a broad understanding of the steps required to successfully put in a new volunteer management system and will learn about common issues and how to address them.</span></p> <p><span style="color: #222222;">Key Takeaways Include:</span></p> <ul> <li><span style="color: #222222;">A step by step process for selecting the right volunteer management system</span></li> <li><span style="color: #222222;">A roadmap for moving to the new volunteer management system</span></li> <li><span style="color: #222222;">Common selection and implementation issues and how to avoid them</span></li> </ul><p> </p> <p><span style="color: #000000;">Stop by for discussion, networking with the nonprofit tech crowd and refreshments!</span></p> <p> </p> <p><span style="color: #000000 ; font-size: large;"><strong>About the presenter</strong></span></p> <p><span style="color: #222222;"><strong>Jeff Turner</strong>, PMP is the Principal at NPO Back Office, a company specializing in supporting the technology needs of small and volunteer run nonprofits. description Join us for an evening of Tech Talks: PDX Edition at Urban Airship's space in the Pearl. This evening's theme is high-performance network programming. Scott Andreas will talk about network-level oddities that are important to think about when designing high-performance network applications. Lower-level TCP behaviors such as incast, Nagle's algorithm, and tcp_retries2 are a few examples of what we'll learn about – and how to avoid getting hit by them when you don't expect it! Erik Onnen will speak on designing and implementing network-intensive applications on the JVM, with a focus on high-throughput and low-latency IO. He'll dig into different frameworks for languages like Java (Netty), Scala (Akka), and Clojure (Aleph), synchronous vs. async IO – and how to decide which to go with. Specific topics will be drawn from practical application building large scale, high throughput messaging systems dealing with millions of mobile devices. create Calagator::Event 1250464254 Health & Life Science IT Forum: Quantified Self - Better Health with Devices and Apps Roll back

description nil Can smart wrist bands, digital shoes or intelligent sweat pants make us healthier? Do our smart phones hold the power to enable our physicians to provide improved treatment and drive better health outcomes? Patient engagement is all the rage, but quantified patients are using fitness devices and apps to collect and interpret extensive data to make better health decisions in growing numbers, and the technology community is there to meet the growing demand for new and smarter tools. Join TAO and HIMSS Oregon for a pre-panel expo that will feature cutting edge personal fitness devices and health and fitness apps from companies like Nike, Fitbit and Athletepath that are driving the quantified self. Then hear from leaders that are helping to define the way devices and apps can go beyond fitness to address our biggest healthcare challenges. Is the quantified self the next healthcare revolution? **Panelists:** * [Dr. Margie Morris](http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=408174&authType=NAME_SEARCH&authToken=4kcS&locale=en_US&srchid=e4d332b1-0416-49d8-9fae-8b46d42ded33-0&srchindex=1&srchtotal=788&goback=%2Efps_PBCK_Margie+Morris_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*2_*1_Y_*1_*1_*1_false_1_R_*1_*51_*1_*51_true_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2&pvs=ps&trk=pp_profile_name_link), Clinical Psychologist and Senior Researcher, [Intel](http://www.intel.com/) * [Christian Reed](http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=13076559&authType=NAME_SEARCH&authToken=1gK2&locale=en_US&srchid=dc6b9e8b-deeb-45f7-89d0-37a941d32f6f-0&srchindex=1&srchtotal=1813&goback=%2Efps_PBCK_%E2%80%A2Christian+Reed_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*2_*1_Y_*1_*1_*1_false_1_R_*1_*51_*1_*51_true_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2&pvs=ps&trk=pp_profile_name_link), Co-Founder, [Athletepath](https://www.athletepath.com/welcome) * [Ben Chodor](http://www.happtique.com/about-us/team/), Co-Founder, [Happtique](http://www.happtique.com/) * [Bill Arzt](http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=22128971&authType=NAME_SEARCH&authToken=oiNL&locale=en_US&srchid=924f1b90-92e4-4072-9f5b-53a2174062be-0&srchindex=1&srchtotal=78&goback=%2Efps_PBCK_Bill+Arzt_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*2_*1_Y_*1_*1_*1_false_1_R_*1_*51_*1_*51_true_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2&pvs=ps&trk=pp_profile_name_link), Chief Operations Officer and Co-Founder, [GoRecess](https://www.gorecess.com/) **Moderator:** * [Jim Moon](http://www.soterawireless.com/about-us/management/), Chief Technology Officer at [Sotera Wireless](http://www.soterawireless.com/) For more Information and to Register [Click here](http://www.techoregon.org/events/event_details.asp?id=319620&group=)
